Playing video games and getting money for it seems like a dream job for many of today's teenagers. But is it all fun and games?
Big business
Pro (professional) gaming is certainly big business. In 2017,there were more than 3.000 gaming competitions and over 10.000 professional players worldwide. A large number of people watch their competitions online,and successful gamers can get more than 1,000,000 dollars from prize money and ads. The industry is clearlythriving
What it takes
Becoming a professional gamer is not just about being good at play1ngGame--it also takes a lot of hard work. Some programmers Practice for Fourteen hours a day. "You need to spend much time and put all your efforts into it." says ex--gamer George.
Not all fun and games
It can be a difficult job as well. Stress is a big problem for gamers Tiredness is another, and injuries(受伤) are common. Top player Hai Lam had wrist(手腕)problems after years of pro gaming. Careers(生涯)are short, and many gamers retire(退休) before they are 30 and try to find another Job.
However, the bad points probably won't change the dreams of many teenage gamers. And angry parents are still likely to hear the excuse," But I'm just practicing for my future job!"
EMERGENCY? WHAT EMERGENCY?
An emergency service (紧急服务) should be like that: a service that you phone in an emergency. You might need to call the police if you're in a car accident. But some people phone the emergency services for some unimportant reasons (原因). {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
Here are some examples we heard about from emergencycentres all over the world.
1 'I ordered food from a Chinese takeaway and it didn't come. I'm so hungry! Can you tell them to hurry up, please?'
2 'My children are making such a loud noise and I can't think about things. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}
3 There's a black cat in my garden. Black cats are such unlucky animals. Can someone please come and take it away?'
These calls are funny to read about, but they can have very serious consequences (后果) . 'Every call takes about a minute,' said one man who works in emergency services. 'Maybe that doesn't sound a very long time, but in that one minute, other people are calling who really have an emergency. And for them, a minute might be really important.'
So let's get really serious: {#blank#}3{#/blank#} And of course, remember that you should never phone them with information that's untrue!
A. And it's hard to believe these calls are real! B. THINK before you call the emergency services. C. Can you give me his telephone number? D. Can you come and take them away, please? |

Still remember(记得) the following poems? Memories return every time I read or hear them.
Hush now, my little one. Hush now, my sunshine. Hush now, piece of my heart. Go to sleep, my little one. Go to sleep, my love. Go to sleep, piece of my heart. Sleep, my little one, While I sing to you. Sleep, my little one, Who is already asleep. | My mama feeds me. And washes my fur(皮毛). The first thing I see every morning is her. The last thing I kiss every night is her face. My mama is the very best one. And sings like a bird. And knows how I feel, when I don't say a word. My mama is warm. | I can set the table. I can sweep the floor. I can wash my clothes, And count to forty-four. I can wash dishes. And clean my bedroom. There is so much I can do. Now ask you. |
