Do you know about rice? Rice is a very important kind of food for more than half of the world's people. Rice is eaten at every meal in many Asian countries, such as Japan, Korea and India. 

{#blank#}1{#/blank#} In China, scientists discovered the rice fields that were over 8,000 years old. That means rice has been a part of life in China for a very long time. Growing and cooking rice are a part of China's culture. 

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} They include sweet rice, wild rice, and brown rice. Rice is low in salt and fat. Rice is grown in many countries of the world. The fields growing rice are called paddies (稻田). {#blank#}3{#/blank#}To produce more rice, farmers get water inside the paddies. 

Rice is used to make a lot of food in China, such as rice cakes and noodles. In many other countries, it is good with many dishes. For example, it is good with onions and beef, tomatoes and eggs and orange chicken. Before we make these dishes, we must learn how to cook rice. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

Put two cups of rice in a pot. Wash the rice with some cold water. After that, add three cups of water. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Next cover the pot and lower the heat. Cook for another 15 minutes. Two cups of uncooked rice will become 6 cups of cooked rice.

Some scientists think that trees not just help clean the air. They are also good for our health. A study shows that people in hospitals feel better when they can see trees from their rooms. And people with trees near their homes usually exercise more. 

Scientists are also studying the healthy effects(作用) of trees on human minds. One effect of trees is that they make people feel happy and relaxed. When people go through the neighborhood with more trees, they will walk slower and talk more often with each other. 

Of course, another good effect is that doctor trees work for free! 

How can we stop climate change? How can we stop air pollution? How can we live on a green planet? One way is to use clean energy. Clean energy does not harm the Earth. It never runs out. Energy from the Sun is clean. We just need to learn how to get and store more of it.

Plants use energy from the Sun. They use it to turn water and air into sugar. The sugar can be used as food. Scientists know a lot about how plants make food. Some scientists want to get energy from the Sun like plants do. They want to make a machine that can use sunlight to make fuel (燃料) from water.

Water is made up of two different parts. Breaking water into its parts is hard. Plants do it all the time, though. It is part of how they make food. With energy from the Sun, the new machine will break water into its parts. One of the parts will be used as fuel. Then the fuel is used to make electricity (电). The electricity can power cars, houses, and so on.

This fuel is better for the Earth than gasoline (汽油). It does not pollute the air. Plants can help us learn how to make clean energy!

Have you heard of Tomato Festival? It's a famous festival in Spain, and even around the world. People in {#blank#}1{#/blank#} small town named Bunol celebrate Tomato Festival in August every year. There are many{#blank#}2{#/blank#} of activities during the festival, such as parades(游行)and street parties. Among them, the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} exciting one is the tomato fight.

On the day of the tomato fight, the local people and tourists from all over the world come to the town square together, waiting{#blank#}4{#/blank#} the large trucks full of tomatoes to arrive. When the tomato fight starts, everyone can have fun{#blank#}5{#/blank#} tomatoes. People needn't care about {#blank#}6{#/blank#} they know the objects(目标)they throw tomatoes at. They can be {#blank#}7{#/blank#} families, friends and even strangers. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} interesting it is! The tomato fight usually lasts for an hour {#blank#}9{#/blank#} ends up with running out of over 100 tons of tomatoes. 

If you want to join in this special fight, you must {#blank#}10{#/blank#} two important rules about it: You must squash(压软)the tomato before throwing it; you can only throw tomatoes at other people.

 Do you know farm animals? Let's get to know some of them together.

 People keep pigs on farms for meat. Pigs like to stay in mud(泥浆) because it helps them to keep cool. Pigs live in the mud but they are very clean animals. Pigs are smarter than most dogs. Mother pigs can sing to their babies.

 People keep sheep on farms for their meat and milk. Sheep are happy when they live together in a group. Sheep are very gentle(温和的) animals so people like to keep them.

 Cows give us the milk that we buy from the shops. People use milk to make ice cream and other kinds of food. Cows like to eat grass. Cows can drink a lot of water in one day.

 Horses are working animals that live and work on farms. ____△____ You can see people ride them in the shows or at the races.

 People keep chickens on farms for their eggs and meat. A female(母的) chicken is called a hen and a male(公的) chicken is called a rooster. Roosters can wake up the farmers every morning by saying" cock-a-doodle-doo".

Dad: So, how are my kids going?

Annie: I have been practicing for the school play all day. All of them are seniors except me, because of my beautiful singing voice. 

Dad: Really, that's fantastic! Good to hear that my little girl is working so hard. So, Fred. How did that job interview go?

Fred: I. . I just don't know if it's really what I'm looking for. 

Dad: Really? Did they pay money? Then it's exactly what you've been looking for. 

Mom: Dear Fred, as your mother I have always loved you, and it hurts me to have to tell you in this way, but there comes a time when every young man must grow up and leave the nest(巢).

Dad: Yes, but it wasn't what you were looking for, right? It's always something. You didn't like the leader. The parking lot was too far away from the building. The man next to your desk smelled. Fred, nothing is ever good enough for you. 
Fred: But Dad, when I was a kid, you said that when I grew up I was going to do something great. 
Dad: Yes. But now I'm telling you that you should forget about "great", and settle for getting any job.
