How green are you? Do you know how to be green?

    We all need a healthy environment, but we produce waste every day and it does harm to our environment. Though we are young, we can still do something to help. In fact, even the simplest everyday activities can make a real difference to the environment. Here are some ideas for you.

    Reduce

    Reduce means "use less". Don't waste things. This saves money and reduces pollution and waste going into the environment. Before we buy something new, think whether it is really necessary—or maybe the old one will be just as good! When we buy things, choose local products if possible, and try not to buy too many things from abroad.

    Reuse

    Reuse means "use again". Use things for as long as possible. When we buy things, make sure that they last a long time. We should look after them so that they will last, and we should repair them if we can instead of throwing them away and buying new ones. Don't use a paper cup or a paper bag. It's better to use a china (瓷器) cup and a lunch box because you can use them again.

    Recycle

    Recycle means "change things into something else". Though it takes energy to change something into something else, it's better than throwing things away or burning them. Find out what can be recycled in your neighbourhood and take part in recycling programmes. We should also buy products made from recycled materials, such as recycled paper, to help save trees.

    So please remember these three words: reduce, reuse and recycle.

During the party, you can sing, dance, play games and give gifts to each other.Would you like {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(make) new friends? It's a good idea to bring a gift for him/ her. Put {#blank#}3{#/blank#} into a gift bag, and then write a few sentences with your best {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(wish) on the paper. After the party, you can {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(give) the gift to your new friend.

Leonardo da Vinci (莱奥纳多·达·芬奇) was famous artist who was born in Italy. He was also a great inventor. Many of his inventions have become important in modern life. Although Leonardo hated war, he invented many different machines used for war. His most special invention was the machine gun, which was produced and used in war. Besides, Leonardo spent days thinking about how to save time. He developed ideas for something like cutting machines.

Leonardo was strange man. He never ate meat. That was very unusual in those times (时代). He never published (发表) scientific discoveries. He usually used mirror writing, which looks like usual writing in a mirror, starting from the right side of the page and moving to the left side.

Only a few of his paintings are left today. Many paintings were not finished because he thought they were not perfect.

Leonardo was talented and creative. He was regarded as one of the most intelligent men in the world.

There were many famous inventors and scientists in history. You must have heard about a lot of them and known them well. But you may not know Nikola Tesla. 

Nikola Tesla and his inventions were well- known to people in the area of science and electricity, but not quite known to the general public today. Nikola Tesla was a Serbian- born inventor, who later moved to the US. He was most well- known for his inventions in the area of electricity and electrical engineering. He was considered one of the greatest electrical engineers in history. 

Why was Nikola Tesla not well- known while others in his time became so famous to the public? Some said Nikola Tesla failed to make the right business decisions. Others said it was because of his "mad scientist" qualities (特质) — the same qualities that helped him come up with some of his best ideas. His qualities led him to many strange ideas. Towards his last years, he came up with many ideas that seemed unacceptable to the public at that time. He worked very hard on them, which made people think he was mad. 

Many of Tesla's inventions and patents (专利) didn't end up being used in the exact way he had planned for them. Some of those include his high- frequency lighting ideas, wireless power and the free energy receiver.

Tesla had too many inventions. However, he never really made a lot of money out of them. He had a bigger dream: to provide free energy for all.

Guangming Middle School is very big and beautiful. Walk through our school gate and you can see a big playground. Students have great fun playing football in it.

In front of you is our teaching building. There are ten classrooms on the first floor, eight classrooms on the second floor and two classrooms on the third floor. They are all big and bright. Beside the classrooms is the library. You can borrow books there. The art building is behind the library. We have four art rooms on the first floor, and four music rooms on the second floor. You can draw pictures and play music there. Next to it is our school hall. It is very big and we have a school meeting every week.
