Many people catch a cold in the springtime or fall. Although scientists can send a man to the moon, why can't they find a way to stop the common cold? The 1 is easy. There are actually hundreds of kinds of cold viruses（病毒）out there. You never know which one you will 2 , so there isn't a cure（治疗）for each one. 

When a virus gets into your body, your body works hard to fight against it. When you have a cold, blood（血液）rushes to your nose and makes it stuffy（堵塞的）. You feel 3 because you can't breathe well, but your body is actually "eating" the virus. Your temperature rises and you get a fever, but the heat of your body is 4 the virus. You may feel uncomfortable, but actually your wonderful body is doing everything it can to kill the cold. 

Different people do different things to deal with colds. In the United States and some other countries, for example, people might eat chicken soup to feel 5 . Some people take hot baths and drink warm drinks. Other people 6 medicine to stop the uncomfortable feelings of colds.

I never knew that one little"I'm sorry"could mean so much. I never thought that one moment in time could 1 the rest of my life.

I was sitting in class one day when a short and 2 kidnamed Victor came in. He sat down next to me, looked at meand looked away. When our eyes met, I 3  talked to him, but he just smiled at me. So I didn't think 4  was the person that I'd like to become friends with.

One day I joined the unkind kids in 5  him, although I knew it was wrong."Do you have any friends?"a kid asked Victor, who 6  past us alone, keeping his head down.

 "No, he hasn't got any 7  . He's too foolish,"I said. Victor looked at me with sad eyes. That night, I couldn't sleep 8  I couldn't get Victor's face out of my mind. In the next week, he never 9  my eyes in class or smiled at me.

It was really hard for me to ask him to forgive me. I couldn't forget his sad 10  every time I saw him. The next day in class, I wrote him a note telling him how 11  I felt. About five minutes later, I turned and saw tears12 his eyes. Later he told me that I would never realise how much my apology(道歉) had meant to him. He said he hoped that we 13  become friends.

We had a very pleasant talk over lunch that noon. And then, we became close friends. When I think back, I realise that my apology made it possible for me to 14  good friends with Victor, a lonely person.

So never 15  a chance to tell somebody you are sorry. Apologies can really change your life.

Most people don't take first aid training because they are busy. Some even think only doctors need to learn first aid. But in fact, it is useful. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.

Not every accident or injury needs a visit to the hospital. But it doesn't mean you should not try to help someone injured, even though the injury isn't very serious. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. For example, a person who doesn't feel well because of a fever.

Keep a situation from getting worse

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}.If you give him or her simple care, you will help him or her feel better and keep things from getting worse.

A doctor entered the hospital as soon as possible after being called in for an important surgery (外科手术).

He found the boy's father in the hall waiting worriedly. 

On seeing him, the father cried out, "Why did you take all this time to come? Don't you know that my son is in danger? Don't you have any sense of duty?"

The doctor smiled and said, "I am sorry. I wasn't in the hospital and I came as fast as I could after receiving the call and now, I wish you'd calm down so that I can do my work."

"Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now? Would you calm down? If your own son dies while waiting for a doctor, then what will you do?" said the father angrily. The doctor smiled again and replied, "We will do our best and you should also pray (祈祷) for your son's healthy life."

The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happily, "Thank goodness! Your son is saved!" And without waiting for the father's reply he carried on his way running by saying, "If you have any questions, ask the nurse."

"Couldn't he wait some minutes so that I can ask about my son's state?" shouted the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left.

The nurse answered, tears coming down her face, "His son died yesterday in a road accident. He was at the burial (葬礼) when we called him for your son's surgery. And now that he saved your son's life, he left running to finish his son's burial."

Every April, there is a special day in China. It is the Qingming Festival, also called Tomb-sweeping Day. On that day, people {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(记念) their ancestors(祖先).The Qingming Festival is a {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(传统) Chinese festival.It has a long history. It began over 2,000 years ago. A famous poem {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(由) Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu describes the day, "Rain falls heavily as Qingming comes, and passers-by(行人) with low spirits go."

 Tomb-sweeping Day has been a public {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(假日) in China since 2008.On this day, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(家人) bring flowers and food to their ancestors' tombs. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(在…之后) they put food like cakes and fruits in front of the tombs, they sweep the dirt off the tombs and remember their dead family members. Why do Chinese people do this? That's because people think that {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(拜访) tombs is to show respect to {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(他们)  dead family members.

 {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(然而), Tomb-sweeping Day is not only about this. Families often{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(相聚) together for hiking or flying kites at this time.

When I was 5 or 6 years old, I was a naughty (调皮) boy. One day, I tried to steal gum from the drugstore when my 1 took me shopping. I stood in front of the gum shelf, waiting for the right moment. After about 30 2 , I finally made my move, just as my mum was calling me to 3 . As we walked away, a store worker walked up to my mum and told her that I had taken a pack of gum.

My mum was really angry and insisted that it was 4 for me to do so. She thought her son was honest, good, and 5 lied or did anything bad. However, the store worker explained that all the workers, from the very beginning, had been watching me for half an hour. It was challenging for them to wait so long before I 6 did it. To prove they were wrong, my mum searched me, checked my pockets, and found 7 . The man was surprised, and my mum was proud and even scolded (责备) him.

Seeing the man's face turn red, I felt very sorry. I had to make a choice. As he started to walk away, I 8 my cap, reached inside, and offered the pack of gum to him. I said 9 with all my heart. Both the man and my mother were shocked, for different reasons.

Though I was punished, I felt less guilty because I 10 becoming a worse person. Better late than never.
