You might have heard the story of The Tortoise and the Hare (《龟兔赛跑》). The hare lost because he was sleeping {#blank#}1{#/blank#}of keeping running during the race. However, there is another more interesting story.

    Once {#blank#}2{#/blank#}a time, a rabbit (家兔) and a turtle (海龟) were arguing about who was faster. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}could give an answer, so they decided to have a race.

    Before the race, the story The Tortoise and the Hare{#blank#}4{#/blank#} the rabbit of his friend, the hare." He should be able to teach me{#blank#}5{#/blank#}useful lesson." So he called the hare." How can I{#blank#}6{#/blank#} the race?" he asked. The hare answered, "Don't be{#blank#}7{#/blank#}like me!"

    The next day, the two animals met. When the fox called "Go!" in  a loud {#blank#}8{#/blank#}, the rabbit started running as fast as possible. Soon, he couldn't see the turtle. He didn't slow down. He ran the whole race {#blank#}9{#/blank#}he reached the finishing line.

    In the end, however, he was so{#blank#}10{#/blank#}that he found the turtle was already at the finishing line!" How did you get here so fast?" asked the rabbit. The turtle smiled and said, "Well, I also called the tortoise. He told me to take a taxi!"

Once there were four beggars (乞丐). One day, they met at an old temple at night. They were very upset because none of them had much to eat.

"I only got this piece of meat today." the first said. "I almost got nothing," the second said, "I just picked up a potato outside the vegetable store during the day." The third said that all he had was a small bottle of salt. The fourth beggar had not done much better, "I only got some old beans, but they aren't very nice!" 

As they sat around the fire, the beggar with only a bottle of salt had a great idea "Let's put all our things together and boil them. In this way, we can make a tasty dish and share it." They all agreed. However, the first beggar thought, "I don't want to share. I'll just pretend to throw my meat into the pot. They'll never know and I'll eat my meat alone later." So he pretended to put the meat into the pot. And at the same time the other beggars had similar ideas to him. At that time, the temple was too dark for the beggars to see what the others were doing.

Finally, one of them suggested that the dish should be ready and, in turn, each of them helped himself to it. They drank the hot water in silence, learning that selfishness (自私) doesn't taste all that good.

Skiing(滑雪） is one of the most popular sports in the world especially in Norway (挪威). It is the best way to have fun in winter. Almost everyone can ski. Children learn to ski after they learn to walk. Long long ago in Norway, there were no buses, trains or cars. People had to find a way to walk over the deep snow. Skis were the right answer!

Although they love winter, the people of Norway are also happy to see summer come. They enjoy the outdoor activities at any time of the year. In summer they swim and sunbathe near the beach. 

Some people go cycling and go mountain climbing. Sail-boating is also very popular during the warm sunny summer months. 

The Norwegians (挪威人), like people everywhere, find many indoor ways to have a good time. During the long winter they also enjoy movies. They like to read books from the libraries in all seasons. Family life is very important to the people of Norway. 

Rita was tired from basketball practice, and she had to study for the next day's math test. Instead of either sleeping or studying, however, she was babysitting. And it wasn't 1 !

 Molly 2 to wash her face or her hands before bed, but her mother had said that doing so was a 3 . Rita was bigger and stronger than the little girl and could 4 her, and she wanted to do so. What choice did she have? Surely she shouldn't just 5 and let the child go to bed unwashed. But she knew there 6 be a better way to do her job. Then she got an idea.

 Rita went into the 7 to get what she needed. Then she chased Molly around the living room and dining room until she caught her and could carry her into the bathroom. Molly looked at the sink full of water and started shouting and 8 at the bathroom door.

" Have you ever washed your face and hands with purple water?" Rita asked. She added blue and red food coloring into the water." If you put your hands in the sink, the water will9 purple."

 Molly opened her mouth to shout, then closed it and looked at the swirls(旋涡) of color. Finally, she couldn't 10 and put her hands into the swirls of color, turning the water purple. She was 11 that her hands did not 12 the same shade(色度), but Rita had not been foolish enough to add enough coloring for that result.

" Can I wash my face now, too?" asked Molly when her hands were 13 clean.

 " Sure," said Rita." But wouldn't you rather do that with orange water?"

 Ten minutes later, a tired but clean little girl was sound 14 and a tired but relieved babysitter was opening her 15 book.

Shailyn Ryan is a 9- year- old girl from Massachusetts. That day, during lunch in the school dining hall, she noticed 1 unexpected happening. Her friend Keira held a hand to her own throw without a word. Her face rapidly turned red, then blue. Though Keira was unable to 2 , Shailyn knew she was choking(噎住).

 Immediately, Shailyn jumped from her seat and stood behind Keira. She pushed Keira a bit forward, put her arms 3 Keira's waist (腰部), then pressed as hard as she could.

 It wasn't long before a hot dog piece popped (突然弹出) up from Keira's throat. Thanks to her 4 action, Keira was free to breathe again.

"I didn't really think about it—I just did it," said Shailyn."I wasn't 5 at all, and I knew that I had to do something fast, so I did." And she did it just right.

 The most 6 part of the story is that Shailyn knew the Heimlich maneuver  (海姆立克操作法) just for less than 24 hours. Only the night before, she attended a" Home Alone" kids 7 class. At the class, she and several other children learnt basic first aid and practised 8 to do the Heimlich maneuver on each other. Clearly, Shailyn was a really fast 9 ! She was able to take what she'd learnt the night before and 10 it in real life.

A few days later, Shailyn was given an award by the school master Jill Barnhardt.  " We' re sure to 11 Shailyn for her actions in such situation," Barnhardt said." Shailyn took actions 12 . Her response to her friend's suffering was effective. She is simply a 13 ."

 Shailyn was also excited to get a personal tour of a hospital 14 she dreamed of becoming a doctor.‘I want to 15 more people,'' she said." That would be cool to work in a hospital."

I used to have little passion （激情） in my life. But what happened the other day changed my mind. It was then that I learned how1 it is to have a passion in life. 

That day I went home in Mom's car. When Mom2 at a red light，someone on the side of the road caught my eye. It was a man dressed3 rags（破旧衣服）. He was homeless. That didn't interest me，4 I had seen many people like him before. Those people usually looked unhappy and hopeless. But this man was5 in some way. He was not sitting down with a6 expression. Instead，he had a7 in his hand and was dancing happily to the music. The radio seemed to be the most precious thing he had. "Mom，why does that man have a radio though he's8 ? " I asked

"He9 it，" she replied. 

"But why doesn't he use the money to buy food or clothes? He10 something that he didn't need. " "Well，Sarah，sometimes food and clothes aren't the most important. "

That man must care so11 about music that he bought a radio instead of food or clothes. I soon realized that12 is the key to life. 

Since then，I am always thinking of13 is truly important in life. A home，a meal，clothes — these things are only14 of the life. What we often forget is that we all need a joy，a light in a15 day. We all need a passion which gives a person the happiness they need to keep going.
