任务型阅读

Dear Zhang Han,

Thanks for your e-mail. Your school life is very interesting. I hope I can go and visit you soon. Now I would like to tell you something about my school life in England.

In England, the school day is from Monday to Friday. It usually begins at nine o'clock. First, we go to our class teacher for registration (登记). Then we go to lessons. Each lesson usually lasts for forty-five minutes. There is a break about twenty minutes in the morning. During the break we can buy food from the store. Some students have lunch in the school dining hall and others bring sandwiches or go home. Students have to wear school uniforms. Lessons are over at 3:30 p.m. and then there are usually a lot of activities, for example, sports and music clubs. I know Chinese students usually have a lot of homework. We have homework, too, but not much.

Tell me something about you and your friends.

Yours,

Kevin

Sally was a student. It was going to be her mother's birthday. She wanted to buy her a present that would be nice and useful but not expensive.

A week before her mother's birthday, she went shopping after a quick and simple lunch. When she had been looking for half an hour, she found a shop that was selling cheap umbrellas, and decided to take a black one, since her mother had lost hers the month before.

She thought, "You could carry that when you are wearing clothes of any color." So she decided to buy a lovely black umbrella and took it back to the school with her until her classes were over.

On her way back home in the train that evening she felt hungry because she had such a small lunch that she went along to the dining car for another sandwich and a cup of coffee. She had left the black umbrella above her seat in the compartment(车厢), but when she got back, it had gone! When she had left the compartment, there had been no other passengers (乘客) in it, but now there were three.

Sally began to cry when she saw that the umbrella was no longer there. The other passengers felt very sorry for her and asked what the matter was. She told them that the black umbrella she had bought for her mother was gone, and that she had to get out at the next station. After the three other passengers heard it, they asked her for her mother's address so that they could send the umbrella to her if someone had taken it by mistake, and brought it back after Sally had got out of the train.

The next week, Sally heard from her mother. It said, "Thank you very much for your lovely presents, but why did you send me three black umbrellas?"

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

When was the last time you gave or received a hug? Do your parents hug you before you go to school? In Western countries, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.

You might hug your teammates after winning a basketball game. If one of your friends is having a bad day, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Friends who haven't seen each other for a long time will usually hug each other when meeting.

Of course, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. After coming to China, I've noticed that people are generally more reluctant (不情愿的) to hug than they are in my home country, the US.

My Chinese friends told me that hugging is considered to be very intimate (亲密的) in their culture, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, like couples. Chinese people don't usually hug in public, either.

But people's attitudes toward hugging can also change.

I remember watching a video story about a "hugging party" that was held in Shanghai. A local artist held the party, inviting strangers and asking them to hug each other.

The Chinese participants clearly looked uncomfortable, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. They decided that hugging doesn't have to be awkward (尴尬的) and can actually be quite nice. So next time you see your mom or dad, give them a hug—see how it makes you feel.

A. you can hug him to cheer him up

B. it usually only happens between people who are really close to each other

C. it is quite common to greet close friends or relatives with a hug

D. people sometimes give advice or just try to solve the other person's problems directly

E. people in different countries have different opinions when it comes to hugging

F. hugging is not the only way to comfort others

G. however, after the party, several of them changed their minds
