The Sanlin dragon dance has a history of more than 1,000 years. It became popular during the Ming Dynasty. Today, au Dajie heads the Sanlin Dragon Dance Team. He first heard stories about the dan c c from his grandfather and became interested at on c c. As a child, he often ran after the dragon dancers along the streets of Sanlin and tried to gleam the dance. 

As be grew up. Au gleamed more about dragon danced. In 1994, he set up the Sanlin Dragon Dance Team. The team has performed in France, Germany, Japan and many other countries. It has won more than 70 gold medals in competitions around the world. Many people say it's the best dragon dance team in China. If you visit Sanlin Old Street, you'll see the Sanlin Dragon Dance Exhibition（展览） Hall. There are many dragons in it and you can learn more about dragon danced. It would be a great way to celebrate the Year of long! 

Leeks are so common that you have probably never thought much about them. They grow easily in our gardens and don't look very special, but that doesn't mean they are not interesting! Leeks belong to the Allium family of vegetables, which also includes onions. Like onions and other members of the Allium family, leeks are a kind of vegetable with white soft parts and leafy green tops. The bulb(鳞茎), however, is not round, but just slightly larger than the stem nearest the roots. The more rounded the bulb, the older the leek. Leeks are usually about 30 cm long, but they can grow much bigger. Do you know growing leeks can win you a prize? Some gardeners grow big leeks and hold competitions to find the biggest type of leek. The heaviest leek ever weighed more than 8 kg. 

People have been eating leeks for thousands of years. The Ancient Roman Emperor Nero ordered his cooks to serve him leeks every day, as he believed they would improve his singing voice! People in Wales loved leeks so much that they made them their national symbol. As the story goes, about 400 years ago, Welsh soldiers were fighting in a war. They put leeks in their hats so that they could tell their friends from their enemies. 

Leeks are especially loved by cooks all over the world, as they give flavor(味道) to lots of dishes. Leeks taste a bit like onions, but their flavor is much weaker. They taste especially good in soups. In France, a leek and potato soup is eaten cold. Leeks go well with meat. 

So now we know that leeks are delicious, but are they good for you? Yes! Leeks are full of iron(铁). Experts now believe that eating leeks and other members of the Allium family can also help people keep their blood pressure under control and their hearts healthy. 

Once upon a time there was a happy paper doll that had no face. His whole body was perfectly cut out and painted, except for his face. However, he had a pencil so he could choose whatever face he wanted to have. How lucky! He then spent all day asking everyone he met, "What's a perfect face like?"

" One with a big beak (鸟嘴)." answered the birds.

" No. Not one with a beak," said the trees. " The perfect face is full of leaves."

" Forget the beak and the leaves," said the flowers. " If you want a perfect face, you fill it with colors."

The doll followed their advice. However, it turned out that nobody liked it. And now he couldn't erase it! " I only wanted a face that everyone would like," he cried. "And now look, what a disaster (灾难)!"

A small cloud heard his cries and came to him, " I think I can help you. As I'm a cloud, I can make any face you like. What do you think about me changing faces until there's one that you like? I'm sure we can fix you a little bit."

The doll again felt hopeful. The cloud made all kinds of faces for him. But none of them was perfect enough.

"Never mind," said the doll. " you've been a great friend." He gave her a big hug and the cloud smiled from ear to ear, happy at having helped. Just then the doll cried excitedly, " That's it! That's the face I want! It's a perfect face!"

"Which one?" asked the cloud. "But I haven't done anything."

"Yes, yes you have! It's that face you make when I hug you!"

The cloud finally realized that he was talking about her big smile. And together they took the pencil and drew the paper doll a big smile, ten times better than beaks, colors and leaves. And that face was indeed the only one that everyone liked because it had the secret ingredient (成分) for perfect faces: a big smile that could never be erased.

Dear Mom,

Time flies quickly. Two months has gone by since I joined this boarding school. Everything is going well. During my first month here, I was like a fish out of water. I came to realize how many things I should thank you for.

On the cold winter days, I have to get up early almost every morning to fetch hot water. I began to feel ashamed that I never said "thank you" every time you prepared (准备) hot water for me each morning on winter days before I got up.

I am no longer that girl who was often unable to find her books in her bedroom. It used to take me a lot of time to collect all the books for the day's classes. But I have gotten over that bad habit now. And now I know how much time you used to take to collect my books every evening.

I have learned to do the laundry on my own now. I came to realize that washing clothes is a boring job, especially on winter days. Sometimes there is no hot water and I have to wash my clothes with cold water by hand.

I came to know how grateful (感激的)I should be to have you as my Mom. Thank you, Mom.

①When I was in fourth grade, we would have reading circles. The other kids and I would sit in a circle and read aloud different parts of books. Then the teacher would ask us questions. I loved to answer those questions. I was an advanced(先进的) reader and a very fast reader. That meant that whenever the teacher would start asking us questions, my voice would be the first to call out the answers.

②This went on for a while, and everybody was pretty patient with me. Little did I realize, though, that the teacher was getting tired of my behavior(行为). Because I was not able to sit there and go with the other students, one dáy she put me in the corner, out of the circle.

③Did thisstop me? I am afraid not. I was simply excited about what I had read. From the corner of the room, I kept on-listening and reading ____ reading away. When the teacher would ask questions,I would still shout but the answers—— but from across the room.

④After I'd done this a few times, the teacher became angry. She decided to schedule a meeting with my parents.

⑤The next day, my mother came to school for the meeting She reminded the teacher that I was just trying to be a good student and that I needed to be challenged more. However, it was also made clear to me that there were other students in the class and they need a chance to talk, too.

⑥In the end, we worked out a solution. I would sit in the circle with the other students, but I would be given more advanced books to read. After the reading circle was over, the teacher would spend time talking with me about what I had read.

⑦And so, although I am embarrassed, I learned a lesson from it.

 Do you know Cold Food Day in China? It is also called Hanshi Festival. It's usually a few days before Tomb-Sweeping Day. This year it falls on April 3rd. It came from the story of Jie Zitui. He was loyal(忠诚的) to Duke Wen of Jin(普文公). But Jin asked people to fire his house in the mountain. Unluckily, Jie didn't want to come out and died. To remember him, people didn't set fires on the day of his death. And they only ate cold food.

Actually, there are some popular dishes during the Cold Food Festival. One of the most popular foods is cold rice dumplings made from wrapping sticky (黏的) rice in leaves. These dumplings stand for family togetherness. People can also eat other traditional foods during the festival, such as cold noodles, duck eggs, and cold green vegetables.

 In a word, the Cold Food Festival is important and meaningful in Chinese tradition. It carries the Chinese people's feelings of missing. You can go out with friends and enjoy the outdoor activities as well, such as kite flying, dragon boat racing, and tug-of-war competitions.

 It is a time to remember the past, cclcbrate the present, and look forward to the future. It holds a special place in the hearts of the Chinese people.
