Paper cutting is one of the oldest Chinese traditional skills. People first started paper cutting in the 6th century. Scissors and paper are usually u{#blank#}1{#/blank#} in paper cutting. People cut different patterns like animals, plants and Chinese characters for health or good l{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Zhang Xiufang is an inheritor (传承人) of Yangzhou Paper Cutting. Her works always make a deep i{#blank#}3{#/blank#} on others because she can cut fine patterns without cutting the paper into pieces. A{#blank#}4{#/blank#} she is 81 years old now, she keeps on p{#blank#}5{#/blank#} the skill every day. She hopes this valuable traditional skill can be passed down from generation to generation.

Do you like fishing? Have you ever put a fish back into the water after catching it? What made you decide to do this?

One day, two fishermen were fishing in a pond（池塘）. Both of them were looking forward to getting a big catch. The first fisherman caught a big fish in a few minutes. He was very happy. He put the fish in his box. He would cook it in the afternoon. Soon the second fisherman also caught a large fish. However, he threw it back into the pond. Later, he caught many more big fish, only to throw them back into the water again and again. 

The first fisherman was surprised. "Why are you throwing the fish back into the water? They are beautiful and big!" The second fisherman answered, " l know they are big, but I don't have a pan(锅)that is big enough to cook big fish! I'm looking for a small fish that fits my cooking pan.

The first fisherman was surprised by the answer. He told the second fisherman that he could just cut the big fish into small pieces to fit them into the small pan. 

Many of us are just like the second fisherman. We don't think carefully and this sometimes causes us to lose chances. 

 Boys and girls, what sport do you like? Do you like skiing(滑雪)?I can't do it. It looks very difficult! Do you know Gu Eileen? She is a great ski player. Her father is American and her mother is Chinese.

 Now she is 20 years old. Why does she look beautiful and strong? First, she thinks good eating habits help her to be healthy. For breakfast, she likes eggs and milk. She has vegetables and chicken for lunch. For dinner, she likes salad and fish. Beijing duck is her favorite food but she doesn't eat too much. Second, when all her classes finish from Monday to Friday at school, she must do more sports.

 Gu wins two gold medals(奖牌) in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics(冬奥会). Now, she is a big star in China and in the world.

"What's wrong, Suzie?" asked Dad. "Why are you looking so unhappy?"

"It is just that Amine's family has moved to Sydney," cried Suzie. "She will go to a new school there, make new friends, lead a new life and… and{#blank#}1{#/blank#} me." Suzie couldn't speak any more with tears in her eyes.

Dad held Suzie's small hand in his large one and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} patted（拍）her on the head.

"It's OK, Suzie," he said. "I am sure you will find another friend. There are so many other children at school, aren't there?"

"But… but it is not the same! Amine is my special friend— the best friend I have ever had. I don't want to {#blank#}3{#/blank#} without her."

"Now, dear, it is really sad to see Amine going away. But you have to move on with your {#blank#}4{#/blank#} life. Listen to me, go to school and get yourself some new friends. Cheer up!"

An unusual Spring Festival

It was my first Spring Festival in the UK. I wanted {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(treat) my British friend, Emilia, to a Chinese dinner. She is a nice girl. Sometimes, she {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(cook) for me. 

However, I just couldn't make it. I often watched Grandma {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(cook), but I never cooked anything {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(I). It was midnight in China, time {#blank#}5{#/blank#} dumplings. But my whole family came to my help on the phone. And I {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(become) a chef in one hour! I even made some cucumber flowers. 

After Emilia {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(hang) balloons and lanterns in the dining room, I put the last dish on the table. " This is the {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(lion) head!"

"Are you joking? Isn't that {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the law?" Emilia was shocked. 

I {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (laugh ). " It's a pork meatball. My family always have it at the Spring Festival. Its round shape stands for family {#blank#}11{#/blank#}(reunion). Try it!" Emilia cut a piece of it {#blank#}12{#/blank#} her knife and put it into her mouth. "I love it!" she said. The smell of the dishes and our {#blank#}13{#/blank#}(laugh) filled the room. I felt like I was back home. 

Zhang Daqian was born in 1899 in Sichuan. He came from an art-loving family His mother first taught him painting. He copied lots of great paintings he could see. Shitao and Bada Sbanren influenced him a lot. In the early 1940s, Zhang studied the Buddhist wall paintings in Dunhuang for two years. This was important for his art growth. 

Zhang's works are famous for his many painting styles. He could paint detailed portraits(肖像). He was creative and had his own style, but his art was based on Chinese tradition. People like his later works, especially his lively splashed-ink landscapes. 

When Zhang was old, he mastered the art of "painting from heart to hand". In 1971, he chose this phrase for a stamp. This phrase has two meanings. First, Zhang was proud that he could paint nature's different things with various styles. He got this ability by copying old masters' works, making his art combine many historical styles. He also traveled a lot, which gave him more life experience to paint the world's beauty. Second, the phrase shows Zhang's belief that an artist should follow his heart to show "spirit harmony". This is an old idea about Chinese painting beauty Before painting, Zhang knew what he wanted to paint and what feeling he wanted to show. He knew how to amaze people with his paintings. 

Zhang lived a long life and died at 83 in 1983. He was energetic. He painted many paintings in his life, about 500 per year on average. 

In 2011, Zhang became the most popular Chinese artist at auction(拍卖会), more popular than Pablo Picasso. People still want his works very much.
