Here is a story: A man sees a butterfly. The butterfly tries to getout of its chrysalis(蛹).Feeling sorry for it, the mandecides to help. He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily.Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn'tstruggle(挣扎) to leave the chrysalis, it can't fly! Thestruggle develops the energy in the butterfly which makes it fly. Similarly, the challenges of life bring out the best in young people and make the fly.

When people are young, meeting and overcoming challenges will makethem strong and ready to face life. When we look at successful people, we seethat the most successful of them are people who have had to struggle. Onefamous businessman, who now owns many big supermarkets, used to carry clotheson his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Anothersuccessful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father'sdeath forced him tomature fast. He had to bring up a family of ninepeople. He faced the challenges and overcame(克服) them.Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.

Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away fromthem. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to facechallenges. They might organize some activities for young people which providethem with challenges, like rock-climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on.However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meetand overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders oftomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important thatthe young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them.

 根据短文内容选择最佳答案。

1. Do you yawn (打哈欠)? There are about 20 reasons that scientists think are possible for yawning after research. They do not know exactly why yawning happens, but they do know many facts about yawning.

2. We know that everyone yawns in the same way. First you open your mouth slowly. Your mouth stays open for about five seconds. You take in a lot of air and then push it out. Then you quickly close your mouth. We also know that yawning is contagious. When you see someone yawn, you yawn, too.

3. Many people say they yawn because they are bored or tired. That might be true. People do often yawn before they sleep and after they wake up. However, we know that people also yawn when they are excited or nervous. Olympic runners, for example, often yawn before a race. Why is that? In 2007, scientists found that a yawn can help a warm brain cool down.

4. Some scientists believe that yawning makes you notice things more quickly. When you are young, you breathe deeply. You also stretch (强化) the muscles (肌肉) in your face, mouth, and neck. Your eardrums (耳膜) stretch, too. Maybe this helps you to be quicker to notice things.

5. In some countries, people think yawning is not nice. People put their hands over their mouths to cover a yawn. In other countries, people think yawning is healthy. They think that opening the mouth very big can let good things in. When they breathe out, they think that bad things go out of the body with the air.

6. Scientists do not spend much time studying yawning. That is probably because yawning does not hurt. It is just something we do.

 阅读理解

At the beginning of the school year, each student would be given a special job for which they would be responsible (负责任的) for the whole term. Rita, a quiet and hardworking girl, hoped for an exciting task, like taking care of the class plants. Instead, she received a small box with sand and a small ant.

Even though the teacher explained that this task was very special, Rita could not help feeling disappointed. However, she decided to do her best with her new job. She began to study and care for the ant, learning about its habitat (栖息地) and needs. She made the box a comfortable home for the ant, and it grew much bigger than anyone expected.

Rita's efforts caught the attention of her science teacher, Mr. Thompson. He turned her work into a class project, and Rita became the class expert (专家) on ants. Her hard work helped the whole class learn about ant behavior and habitats. They even built a small ant farm in the classroom to observe the ant closely.

Gradually, Rita's classmates became more and more interested in the ant project. They started asking her questions and observing the ant's behavior themselves. Rita organized a presentation where she shared her findings with the whole school during the science fair.

At the end of the year, Rita's class was recognized as the best of the year. Rita was as well praised for her hard work and how she turned a small task into something big. Rita learned that every task, no matter how small, could make a big difference. She also learned that sometimes the most unexpected things can lead to great success.
