Bamboo is one of the nature's most surprising plants. (1) 许多人称这种植物为树，但它是一种草。

Like other kinds of grass, a bamboo plant may be cut very low to the ground, but it will grow back very quickly. A Japanese scientist recorded one bamboo plant that grew almost 1.5 meters in 24 hours! Bamboo grows almost everywhere in the world except Europe.

      Not all bamboo looks the same．Some bamboo plants are very thin．They may only grow to be a few centimeters wide while others may grow to more than 30centimeters across．This plant also comes in different colors，from yellow to black to green．

      Many Asian countries have been using bamboo for hundreds of years．They often use bamboo for building new buildings．As a matter of fact，the cables （绳索） that hold up the hanging bridge across the Min River in Sichuan are made of bamboo．The bridge has been in use for more than 1，000years，and is still holding strong．

      In Africa，（3）engineers are teaching poor farmers how to use bamboo to find water ． These African countries need cheap ways to find water because （4 ）they have no money，and their fields often die from no rain and no water．It seems that bamboo is one of the best things they can use．Bamboo pipes and drills （钻） can help to make the poor thirsty fields be watered．

    My friend, Dick, has a large police dog. Its name is Jack. Every Saturday afternoon Dick takes Jack for a long walk in the park. Jack likes these long walks very much.

    One Saturday afternoon, a young man came to visit my friend. He stayed a long time. He talked and talked. Soon it was time for my friend to take Jack for a walk. But the man was still there. Jack became very worried. He walked around the room several times and then sat down in front of the man and looked at him. But the man kept talking. Finally Jack couldn't stand it anymore.     Do you know Chen Yixun? He is a great singer from Hong Kong. He has a lot of beautiful songs, so many people love him. This year Chen Yixun gives concerts (演唱会) in some cities in China. And on November 7 the concert is in Jiaxing.

    Chen Yixun wants to give great concerts, and he does a lot of work for that. First, he practises singing every day. And he always drinks warm water.     May 12th, 2018 is the 10^th anniversary of Wenchuan Earthquake. Many of us may have remembered what happened on May 12th, 2008. The devastating 7.9 magnitude Sichuan earthquake which killed about 90, 000 people in western China. It has been concerned(担忧) widely about what we can do when we encounter(遭遇) certain accidents. Therefore, how to deal with accidents in our daily life?

    Earthquake is the first thing that I am going to talk about. Firstly, you need to rush to open space quickly if you are in a lower floor. Meanwhile, you should avoid trees or wires around you.
