Cambodia (柬埔寨) is going to open the Angkor Wat temples (吴哥窟) at night to interest more tourists to the poor country.
Tourism is an important foreign currency earner (外汇收入) for Cambodia. More than 1,000,000foreign people are going to visit it this year, and most of them are from South Korea, Japan and the United States. More than half of visitors will visit the Angkor Wat temples.
Now visitors must walk out of Angkor Wat temples at sunset, but Cambodia is going to extend (延长) the visiting hours to as late as 8:30p. m.
"We want visitors to see all views of the temples, even in the dark places where they may not see some of the sculptures and statues," Bun Narith said.
But as hotels are more and more, people need lots of underground water. People say the uncontrolled pumping (无节制地抽水) of underground water is bad for the Earth under the temples.

Go Ape is an adventure park, with shaking bridges, zip wires and Tarzan swings. One of the most important things about the courses is the trees. Chris Miller, tells us what his jobs are and why you should join him in Go Ape.
What does a Senior Tree Officer do? I am responsible for taking care of over 3, 000 trees across 36 places. I also make sure the trees are healthy and strong. |
Have you always loved trees and the outdoors? My dad has always had a love of nature. He loves watching birds, so from a young age I had a very outdoorsy childhood. |
Do you ever feel scared of heights? Tree climbing and outdoor activities were always a part of my childhood, but as you grow up, you lose that fearlessness (无畏). There are some moments when you get to the top of a tree and you're questioning a lot of things, but you have to calm down and don't overthink things. |
What do you like about trees? Their beauty. Every tree can tell a story. |
Do you have a favourite tree fact? How shallow (浅的) tree roots are! A lot of people think they go down deep, but they're actually shallow, only in the top metre of earth and wide spreading (延展). |
What is your favourite type of tree? One of my favourites is a paperbark maple. I've got one in my garden that I planted a few years ago. It's got this lovely rich dark brown bark. |
How would you describe Go Ape in three words? Adventure, fun and trees. |
What do you want to say to our readers? "Come and enjoy the treetop adventures in our courses!" |
