People care a lot about food and their health. What hot words about food and health caught Chinese people's eyes in 2023? Let's see some hot words from the first National Nutrition Literacy Conference (全国营养科普大会) held on Dec 9, 2023.

☆ Pre-made dishes (预制菜)

Pre-made dishes are half-finished or finished dishes. They are already cooked or prepared. However, they may cause health problems. For example, some have too many additives (添加剂). So doctors advise people not to eat too many pre-made dishes.

☆ Nutritional literacy (营养素养)

It shows how well a person can learn and understand nutrition information and skills which are important for making good nutrition decisions.

☆ Dietary regimen (食养)

A plan or set of rules that show what and how much a person should eat to keep in good health.

☆ Aspartame (阿巴斯甜)

It's a sweetener widely used in food to take the place of sugar because it is low in calories (卡路里) and much cheaper than sugar.

And the last one is called an all-encompassing approach to food (大食物观). It means people need to have all kinds of food.

The summer holiday is coming. In order to get the children out of the room, the community is going to organize a camp this summer. 

With her eyes always feeling tired, 16-year-old Sun Run went to the hospital with her parents in January. She was shocked when she found out that her eyesight(视力） dropped from 5.0 to 4.6 in only 5 months. "A few of my friends have had the same experience lately," Sun said.

In fact, poor eyesight among Chinese primary and middle school students rose from 59.2 percent to 70.6 percent in the first six months of 2020, according to the Ministry of Education (教育部).

To protect students' eyesight, the Chinese government has worked out new requirements (要求) for schools. For example, according to the requirements, the size of text in students' textbooks should be no smaller than nine-point (小五号). Teachers should also avoid (避免) using projectors (投影仪) or other multimedia equipment (多媒体设备) that are too bright, Beijing Daily reported.

There are also requirements for desk and classroom lights. For example，these lights should give off as little blue light as possible. Blue light is bad for our eyes, as it can kill the photoreceptor cells (感光细胞) we need, according to Harvard Medical School. Many of the electronic devices (电子设备) we use every day, including our phones and computer screens, give off blue light. Chinese government has also taken other steps to protect students' eyesight in China. In May 2020, schools were asked to make sure that students have at least two hours of outdoor activities a day. 

Chinese government has made great effort to help students to protect their eyesight. As well, students should take good care of their eyes.

Walter Orthmann, a 100-year-old man from Brazil, has been working for 84 years at the same company. He broke the Guinness World Record for the longest career at the same company. 

Walter was born in 1922, in a small Brazilian town As the oldest son of five, his mother took him to find a job. He started working at the age of 15 to help his family with financial problems. He got his first job as an assistant. With amazing working skills, he became a successful sales manager at the age of 20. 

In the 1950s, Walter often went on business. He built solid relationships with his customers. His talents and abilities won their trust and support. Some of the customers even became Walter's long life friends. 

In 2022, he tumed 100, but he didn't plan to retire from the only company he had ever worked for. He celebrated his hundredth birthday in the company with his coworkers, friends and family, holding an unforgettable party, 

"When we do what we like, we don't see the time go by!"said Walter Orthmann. "I don't do much planning, nor care much about tomorrow. All I care about is that tomorrow will be another day in which I will wake up, get up, exercise, and go to work. "He suggested people should get busy with the present, not the past or the future. This is what drives him to make history!

In February, 2022, Walter Orthmann was officially recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. Looking back on his life so far, Walter described this record as his"proudest achievement",
