58-year-old Zhang Xiping , a build farmer, was chosen to be one of the 2022 Chinese Filial Piety figures (中华慈孝人物) during the 8th Chinese Filial Piety Cultural Festival held in Hangzhou.

Zhang was born in 1964 in a small village in Shanxi province. His father passed away early and it was hard for his mother to raise him by herself. He wanted to make big money so that his mother could live comfortably. In 1984, Zhang heard sister in-law was raising chickens and selling eggs, so he decided to learn and do it himself.

Every night, he spends about three hours picking eggs for sale, putting each one carefully on top of another inside two baskets. And every morning, he wakes up at 5 o'clock, carries the two baskets weighing over 90 kilograms, and goes to a market street over 30 kilometers away from home. He walks more than 30,000 steps and passes by hundreds of streets per day.

For the past 38 years , he has been raising chickens and selling eggs to support____ his adopted (领养) daughter and now 87-year-old mother. Through his efforts, he has made a good living and even built a new house for his family to live in.

Although his physical disability has made him experience more difficulties in life than normal people, Zhang feels kindness from those around him. " As a disable person, I don't have much to give back to others. When I die, I will donate(捐献) my body to the hospital for scientific research," said Zhang.

Community (社区) Cleanup

A community cleanup brings volunteers together to clean, repair and improve public (公众的) places with rubbish or being broken. The cleanup project (项目) covers all kinds of public places-parks, playground s and even parking lots (停车场).

How to make the project welcome

A cleanup can be a one-time event. It doesn't have to be held very often or last for a long time. If you like you can keep on the activity by moving the cleanup from one place to another. 

Sharing the work—letting people do different jobs that interest them and making each new cleanup a fresh chance for volunteers.

Make sure your project is realistic (可行的). It's a good idea to start with a project that can be finished in one afternoon. Don't start a large project at the beginning because it is difficult to finish.

No matter your cleanup project is a one-time event or a year-long one, don't forget to celebrate the results. Take photos and videos, then put them on the Internet and write thank-you letters to those who helped. Making a meal in the end can make volunteers look forward to working together again.

I always go to school by bus. I usually 1 the No.7 bus. The traffic is often 2 with lots of buses, cars and all kinds of trucks. When I 3 the bus, I always move to the back to make room for new passengers. I 4 sit in courtesy seats. Because they are for old people, small children, pregnant women or people with disabilities. I always 5 the volume (音量) of my smartphone when I get on the bus so that I won't disturb others.

Many young people wear backpacks (背包). They don't take 6 off even when there are not many passengers on the bus. When a mother 7 a baby gets on the bus, somebody stands up to offer them a 8 . Sometimes the bus driver tells the passengers not to 9 their things on the bus. If there are some noisy people on the bus, the driver will 10 them not to speak loudly.

Scientists put a mother in one place. They put her two-year-old child in another place. There was a telephone line between them. Soon, the mother and child were talking to each other. The mother and child were dolphins.

In this experiment(实验), one of the two dolphins would make a sound. Then the other dolphin would make the same sound. Also, the scientists believed that the two animals knew who they were talking to.

Scientists have known for a long time that animals can "talk" with each other. But dolphins have some special ways of talking. They are very smart. When they are in a group, they "talk" to each other. They do this using different sounds. Dolphins not only use sounds to talk, they use body language too. They "tell" something to another dolphin by moving their body in an interesting way. They also do it by opening and closing their mouths quickly.

Scientists have listened to the dolphins' sounds, and they have watched the dolphins' behaviour. It's a pity that they don't know what the dolphins are saying. 

However, scientists have a strong hope of understanding dolphins' language...
