读下面的短文,然后根据短文内容,在每小题所给的四个选项中选出最佳选项。

What do you do if you're stranded (处于困境的) on a lonely island? Surely you need to find a way to get in touch with the outside world. Your best chance of doing this is to draw the attention of a passing plane.

Body signals (信号)

Pilots from different countries understand body signals if they have the correct training. When you wave your arms up and down in a straight line, it means "yes". When you point downwards and swing your arm from side to side, it means "no". If you want the pilot to know that it's safe to land, push your hands out in front of you and bend (弯曲) your knees. If you want to say that it's not safe to land, put your arms in the air and move them to one side.

Smoke signals

The smoke from a fire can be seen from far away, so it's a good way to draw attention. If the weather is dry, it isn't hard to start a fire. Remember, however, that fires can be very dangerous if they get out of control. Never light a fire unless you're sure that it can't spread. If the ground is dark, light smoke can be seen more easily. Green grass and leaves produce light smoke.

Ground-to-air signals

It's a good idea to build some signals, too. Use large pieces of wood to make the symbols(标记). If you can't find any wood, use earth. Some useful symbols are:

F "I need food and water."

II "I need medicine "

I "I am badly hurt."

X" I am unable to move from here."

Pilots' replies

If the pilot lowers the plane's wings from side to side, this means "message received and understood". (At night, the pilot flashes the plane's green lights.) If the pilots flies the plane in a clockwise circle, this means "message received but not understood".(At night, the pilot flashes the plane's red lights.)

However, there is no signal which means "message not received". Why not?

(1)、Which picture means "it's not safe land"?
A、 B、 C、 D、
(2)、What can we learn from the passage?
A、Swinging your arm from side to side means "yes". B、If the ground is dark, light smoke can't be seen. C、If you need some medicine, make a symbol "II". D、The pilots make replies with a blue light at night.
(3)、What is the passage mainly about?
A、The explanation of building signals on an island. B、The importance of making signals on an island. C、Ways of sending out signals on a lonely island. D、Ways of receiving signals from a lonely island.

The year 2024 celebrates the Year of the Dragon. Among the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac, the dragon is the only one that is not real. But Chinese people have loved it so much for thousands of years. Though it looks scary, Chinese people respect it and even see themselves as the "descendants of the dragon".

Wen Yiduo (1899-1946), a well-known Chinese scholar (学者) of his time, said that the idea of a Chinese dragon formed gradually during tribal (部落的) wars. When a strong tribe that highly respected snakes beat other tribes, the tribe mixed the features of its enemies' totem (图腾) animals with its own to create something truly strong.

In the West, dragons also have a long history in mythology (神话) and films, for example Sleeping Beauty and Dungeons & Dragons. What may be surprising, however, is that the dragons share similar beginnings. Both Eastern and Western records say dragons are like snakes.

One of the earliest records of dragons dates back to the jade carvings (玉雕) in China more than 5000 years ago. These jade carvings look like snakes curled into a "C" shape. The Penguin Book of Dragonsalso says that in the ancient world, dragons were often described as big snakes.

What might have made us have the idea of dragons in the first place? Carl Sagan, a famous scientist, answered the question in a book called The Dragons of Eden. He thought people created dragons from what they saw in the natural world and a fear of predators (捕食者).

 阅读理解

Keeping Earth healthy is an important job. That's what the environmental protection is all about. One of the hardest jobs is solving the problem of rubbish. The trouble with rubbish is that more and more rubbish is produced and there will be no place to put it.

A lot of our rubbish comes from plastic. Juice, water, shampoo (洗发水) —these all come in plastic(塑料)bottles. Too much plastic is one of our worst rubbish problems. When a plastic bottle becomes rubbish, it remains rubbish for hundreds of years. That's because plastic is hard to decompose (分解) in the earth.

Is there a better way to deal with plastic? Yes! We can recycle it. When we recycle, we take something that's been used and turn it into something new. Here is how it works. People save their plastic bottles. A special recycling truck picks the bottles up and takes them to the recycling center. Here, the bottles are melted down. The melted plastic is sent to a factory. At the factory, the old plastic is made into something new. It may become a new bottle, a backpack or maybe even a slide (滑梯) at playground!

Sometimes there are not many things that kids can do to help solve our planet's problems. But kids can do a lot about rubbish. Recycling is one way that all people can make a big difference!

DON'T WORRY!WE CAN HELP!Wednesday 22 December

My parents argue a lot. I wish I could make them stop. It's really upsetting. ﹣﹣Michael

You aren't alone. Many teenagers feel upset when their parents argue. Adults disagree at times,just as teenagers do. It's natural to wish you could make your parents stop arguing,but that isn't your responsibility. They must solve their own disagreements.

If you feel upset,focus on things that'll help you feel calm. Do activities you enjoy,or write or draw to express how you feel. At a time when things are calm, "When I hear you arguing,I feel worried and scared. "

Why do friends get mad at me and my other friends?﹣Lily

People get irritated for lots of reasons. Sometimes it's because they feel hurt by or don't like others' actions or words. Sometimes it's because they are just tired,in a bad mood,or annoyed about something that has nothing to do with you. If you're not sure why a friend is irritated

____. Any advice? ﹣Jack

All kinds of things can keep you awake. Ask a parent to help you find out what keeps you up and what to do about it. Your doctor may have helpful tips too. Being active for at least 30 minutes a day (long before bed) can improve your sleep. Having a nightly routine (常规) can also help. For example(games,phone,TV) an hour beforehand. Dress for bed,brush your teeth,calming music,or read something relaxing.
