It was the last day of school and I planned to travel to my 1  home town. I hadn't seen him for years and this was a good 2  to meet him again.

I was busy at school 3  it was rather late when I came back home. It was already o'clock at night. 4  was running out. After a hurried meal, I left. 5  , I found a taxi very soon. Asking the driver to drive me 6  to the station, I relaxed for a while, imagining what my friend 7 now. I was soon at the station and was sure that I would be able to 8 the train. However, I fell on the way and lost some time. To my complete 9  , when I reached the platform, I saw that the train had just left! It was the last train, so I had to 10  home. How terrible my day was! I even wanted to cry.

My mother was glad to see me back as she had a bad feeling about my 11  . But I was unhappy. I tried to relax 12  and went to bed, but I had a bad night's sleep. The next morning I was very tired. As I was having some bread 13  breakfast, the newspaper arrived. I read over the pages and was shocked to 14  that the train I missed had an accident. How 15  I was that I missed the train!

Over the past 19 years. Gong Xiuze has used his skills to help others—providing free haircuts for nearly 10, 000 people. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} They are mainly the old the disabled and sanitation workers (环卫工人) . 

Gong, 82 years old, used to be a policeman in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} He began to provide free haircuts many years ago. From 1964 to 1968, he stayed in the army. There, he helped others cut their hair. After leaving the army, he became a policeman in Taiyuan and continued (继续) to cut hair for others. 

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} When he walked around in the parks in the city, he often found sanitation workers doing cleaning work in the early morning. He thought that they worked really hard, and he wanted to do something for them. 

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} With these cards, he told them about his free haircut service. He also gave cards to the disabled. They had difficulty moving, so Gong visited them and helped cut their hair at their homes. 

Now, many people look forward to meeting Gong every month. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} "I can feel my value (价值) of life at an old age while helping others, "he said. I will continue the service as long as I can. "

In some parts of the world, children don't have enough food to eat or enough money to buy clothes or shoes. Every year at Sunshine Middle School, we do something to collect money for these children. This year we will have a Market Day. 

The Market Day will fall on July 8. We are going to make the student center at our school look just like a big shopping center! People can come at any time from 9:00 a. m. to 5:00 p. m. and buy every- thing from clothes to books, cakes and flowers. 

Luckily for us, many volunteers (志愿者) will help prepare for the big event. Last year, Ms. Grant and Ms. Ali made some wonderful cakes for our charity. They will do it again this year. Bill Thomas will visit Bookworm Bookshop and Mel's Music Shop and ask them to give us things that we can sell at the event. Philip White will e- mail all the teachers and ask them to come to our event. Alice Brow n will put a message online telling the public the event is open to everyone. 

However, there is more to do, and we need your help. We want you to give us things that we can sell- books, old clothes, anything that we can sell to collect money for poor children. We also need some student volunteers to sell the things we get on Market Day. 

With your help, we will certainly have a successful Market Day!

 When Pollyanna woke up, sunlight was through the window of her room. She 1 it was a perfectly wonderful sunny Saturday and she had so many things that she wanted to do.2 , she heard a rapping(敲打) on the door. "Wake up, Pollyanna! It' s Friday— you' ll be late for 3 !"

 Many children would feel 4 to find out it was a school day, but not Pollyanna! Her father had taught her how to 5 the Glad Game when she was little. The goal of the game was to look on the 6 side of everything. She had played it ever since, 7 it worked every time!" Oh, that' s good news!I' m8 school now!" she laughed as she jumped out of bed. "I' ll see my friends and learn all the new things!"

 Pollyanna ran through the kitchen, took her lunch box and gave Nancy a kiss as she did so. "No time for breakfast!" she said to herself. "But a healthy appetite(食欲) will make my lunch taste 9 !"

 Pollyanna rushed out and ran down the hill as fast as she could. As she went 10 Mr. Pendleton's house, the old man waved to her and said, "Good morning!" Pollyanna smiled and turned to wave back but tripped by stones. Before she knew what was 11 , she found herself in a ditch(沟)!

 The girl's dress was a bit dirty, but she was 12 smiling. The old man couldn't help but laugh. "Look what I found in the ditch!" she was holding up some wild flowers and said. "They will make a perfect gift for my 13 !"

 Pollyanna made it to the classroom just as the bell rang. Her dress and her hair were in a mess, but when she gave the flowers to the teacher,14 laughed and cheered. 

 That was the15 thing about the Glad Game, thought Pollyanna. When you play it, you spread happiness to others as well!

 It was cloudy, rainy and cold. For the days in late November, the colorful leaves were now1 fast. I felt it was hard for me to be2 in such weather. I tried to smile, but I couldn't. I walked on through the thick leaves and my shoes slowly got wet. My body was3 My energy was low.

I felt something warm all of a sudden. A break in the 4 appeared and the sunlight was shining through it down to the earth once again. I closed my eyes and turned my face to the sweet sunshine. Its warmth washed over me. Then I 5 and saw the leaves left on the tree shining in the sunlight. Their colors were even brighter. I felt my spirits (情绪) rising slowly as well.

 The few minutes of light 6 me with joy. I walked back home,7 to nature and amazed at what a little break in the cloud could do.

 In our lives, we all 8 times when the world seems cold, dark and gray. In these times, nature calls on (号召) us to break through the clouds9 and share our light with the world. So when the gray days come, don't sit in the dark. Instead, break through clouds 10 .A helping hand, a kind word or a small act of love can warm and shine light into another's heart.
