Each one of us shares this planet with over seven billion others. And we all need1. People and products need to move from city to city and country to country. However, we all know2most cars, motorcycles, boats and planes cause air pollution. They are also3. This is a serious problem in many cities.4inventors are coming up with creative ideas to try to reduce the pollution and noise.

    In many cities around the world, motorcycles are very5. Now Vietnam has around 33 million motorcycles and China has almost 120 million. Motorcycles are a faster and cheaper way to get around a city than6. Yet air pollution is a growing problem. In large cities, people7it is difficult to breathe. To solve these problems, an American company designed an environmentally friendly motorcycle. It uses electricity as fuel (燃料). As a result, there is8pollution. It's also quiet and fast. This makes9a good choice for getting around a city.

    The Italian city of Venice is a city with only a few10. There are no cars in the city centre.11cars, water taxis and buses carry people along the city's canals (运河). However, they cause pollution,12to the water. English engineers Dick and Jem designed a solar-powered (太阳能的) water taxi. The water taxi13run for a day after being charged (充电).

    Planes also cause air and noise pollution. Designing an environmentally friendly airplane is a real14. Some airplane companies have15to solve the problems. Swiss engineers have gone one step further. They developed a solar airplane. This airplane even tries to travel around the world.

A couple of months ago, I made a promise to myself. I put some money in my wallet with the purpose of giving the money to the person in trouble.

Months passed, and as my daily life got busy, I was unable to keep my promise. Whenever I opened my wallet and saw the money, it reminded me of my promise. and I would feel a little disappointed because I haven't taken action. The voice inside told me that I should do something soon.

Today, while walking to work on a busy street, I passed a blind old lady with her hand out on the corner. Seeing her aged face and sightless eyes, I stopped at once. What a poor old lady she was! All of a sudden, I remembered my promise and the money lying in my wallet. I took out the money from the wallet and bent (弯腰) down to her level. Gently, I took her hand, placed the money into it, and closed her fingers over the money so that she could feel it and understand my action. The lady nodded her head a little bit.

I felt like I had achieved something. I kept my word to help someone in need! It was really a small act but especially a meaningful one! You will never make it if you don't take the first step.

Respecting teachers has always been a tradition in China. Once there was a man who wanted to learn from a famous philosopher(哲学家). One day, he and his schoolmates had different opinions on a question. To get a 1 answer, he went to visit the philosopher. In front of the door of the philosopher's house, 2 , the guarding kid told him that the philosopher was meditating(冥想) in his room and asked the man to go back. He 3 to leave, so the little boy left him alone and went in.

 In the Chinese-speaking world, there are some things that everyone knows about and has in common. A good example of this is Jin Yong and his great works.

 Jin Yong is the pen name of Cha Leung-yung. He was one of the most important and famous martial arts novelists(武侠小说家) in China. He passed away at 94 years old in Hong Kong. During his lifetime, Jin Yong wrote 15 martial arts novels. So far, more than 300 million copies of his books have been sold all over the world. It's just as the well-known saying goes,"Wherever there are Chinese, you will find Jin Yong's novels easily". His books have a great influence on Chinese, especially teenagers.

 With his books, Jin Yong created an imaginary world called Jianghu. In Jianghu, fighting heroes practice martial arts hard, protect the weak bravely and build up good examples for the young. But Jin Yong also used some stories from history and traditional Chinese culture to make this amazing world. His stoểes took place in different dynasties. He used Chinese poems and legends in his books as well. This makes his books rich, colorful and attractive,

 Jin Yong touched people's hearts through more than just his books. All of his novels have been made into movies, TV shows or video games. Most of them have been big hits. Lots of actors and actresses became famous because of his works.

 On my 35th birthday, I gave myself my first skateboard. Most of my friends and family thought I was crazy, but only I knew why.

 Two years ago, I accidentally foll down a 12-meter waterfall and broke my pelvis(盆骨). I went from using a wheelchair to using crutches(拐杖), then to trying to walk a block, and finally walking miles. Physical activity became even more important in my life. So why not make it enjoyable? I' ve wanted to learn to skateboard since I was a kid, but most of my time and energy went into dancing. In my opinion, skating was actually very similar to dancing.

 For a long time, I tried to learn skating on my own. I had no idea what I was doing and always felt awkward when many strangers saw me skating or simply trying to keep my balance. That fear of being judged often stopped me from just getting out there for practice.

 One day, my friend Monica and I met some of the members of GRLSWIRL,a skateboarding club. They were so friendly that we wanted to be part of it. This club was amazing. Even though everyone there was better than me, they were happy to help and excited to see me overcome challenges. There, I gradually became more confident.

 For me, a big part of skating was overcoming my PTSD(创伤后应激障碍). Falling is a huge part of skating, but because of that accident, it was really hard for me to overcome it. However, the more I learned from every little fall-allowing my body to understand that it was OK, and that I could drop and get up again-the less my PTSD took over. The more I skated, the better my body and mind felt. Although I started skating for therapy(治疗), I never imagined it would open up a new world of excitement and possibilities for me.
