Bex Lindsay's dream was to be a host. From a young age, she was very 1 in radio. In her childhood she often pretended (假装) to host her own shows on Bex Radio while 2 her parents' CDs. At that time Lindsay wanted very much to work at Fun Kids, a radio station 3 young listeners, so she sent them a strange recording, hoping to be accepted.

"In the old host-to-be performance, the final thing you were 4 to do was to jump on a trampoline (蹦床) while interviewing 5, "she told the reporter, "I didn't have a trampoline and I didn't want to do it in front of anyone else, so I interviewed myself while jumping on my bed, having the recording made. "

Lindsay's recording really 6 and she was asked to host the Sunday breakfast show. Now she hosts a popular program and she loves radio more than ever. She says, "My 7 as the host is kind of to be a listener, so I will ask questions that other people would want to ask."

When she is asked how she has been 8, Lindsay says, "First of all, keep the dream in your mind and 9 give up. "She adds, "Hosting isn't about how high up in the world you are; its about having a good 10 and a good idea. Go and do it."

    Have you ever ridden a Ferris wheel lately? Can you imagine the flying feeling as you are pulled up to the top and then moved down to the bottom quickly again?

    Today a Ferris wheel is usually 40 to 60 feet tall. That seems very high when you are on the top looking down. But the first Ferris wheel was 264 feet high- taller than a twenty-story building! Can you imagine the view from the top of that?

    The first Ferris wheel was built for the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. The people who planned the fair were looking for an attraction that would bring people to Chicago. George Ferris handed a drawing of a giant wheel that people could ride on. At first everyone laughed at his strange idea. But Mr Ferris did not give up, and finally the idea was accepted. The ride opened in June of 1893.

    Today's Ferris wheels have 12 to 16 seats, which each carry 2 or 3 people. But that first one had 36 enclosed cars, each holding 60 passengers. When filled, it carried 2,160 people. During that summer in Chicago, about 1.5 million people rode the Ferris wheel.

After the fair, the ride was moved to a nearby amusement park built especially to show off the wheel. In 1904, it was moved again一to St. Louis for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. After the fair there, the wheel stood unused. In 1906, it was finally sold to a company for scrap metal(废金属).

    Luckily a Chicago bridge builder, W.E. Sullivan, figured out how to make a smaller Ferris wheel that could easily be taken apart and put together. In 1906, he started the company that still makes many of the Ferris wheels used today.

    But, whenever you ride one, remember that it all began with George Ferris's strange idea!

It was about two o'clock in the early morning. I was sleeping when the earthquake started. At first，I felt a little shake. Then I1 a loud noise like thunder（雷声）. 

Soon the real noise came，like bombs（爆炸）under the2 . The building began to shake hard. People shouted and ran out of the building. I tried my best to3 out too，but I could not. Outside，people were running everywhere4 pieces of glass and bricks（砖）were falling down. Then the walls began to come down too!

Finally，the noise and shaking5 . It was dark and silent around me. I could see6 ，and I did not know if anyone else was near me. I felt afraid and my heart was beating fast. I knew I was in danger，but I told myself to7 . 

I shouted for help，but no one came. I started to feel my way through the dark. Luckily，there was just8 space for me to move. 

Hours later，as I was9 to find my way out，I suddenly heard some noise above me. I shouted，"Help!Please help!I'm here!"Then I heard shouts from excited people. They10 moved away the bricks. At last，I saw the bright daylight. I was safe. 

We decided to have a trip to the mountain in our town. My mother  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(唤醒) me up early in the morning. We took some water in order not to be  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(渴的). We didn't want to  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(浪费) time, so we set off so early that there were few cars on the road. We could   {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(几乎不) see anybody on the road.

We got there early. The mountain area is about 1,000  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(平方的) kilometres. It has beautiful  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(风景). There are many rocks in different   {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(形 状)everywhere. Some are like  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(人),some are like animals and others look like monsters. We walked along the  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(小路) and got to the top of the mountain. We could see the whole town. Mother  {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(指;指向) to a faraway village and told me where my grandma's house was. We had a great time there.

Next week our class is going to a rainforest to have a special biology class. We went online and searched for something about the 1  of plants. We are sharing the information with each other now. 

Jack " Plants 2  have great powers. One of their greatest powers is that they can 3  oxygen. They not only give us the oxygen we 4 , but also help to keep the balance of gases(气体平衡) on earth. "

Plants really 15  us a lot. By understanding the powers of plants, we can know how important plants are better. Then we will try to protect them for future uses.
