①We usually go to see a doctor when we are ill. Doctors may give us some medicine, and the medicine often makes us feel better. 

②But sometimes the doctor's medicine doesn't work. This happened to one man, Thomas Smith. He was ill in hospital, but he wasn't getting well. Then he found a new "doctor" inside himself. He saw funny films. He read funny books. And something wonderful happened. Laughing took away his pain after half a year. He could have a good night's rest. His own happy feeling helped him get well. He wrote his story in his book. He said laughing was very useful and it was the best "medicine". 

③Another man, Simon Beck, was also ill, and he had a serious pain in his back. The doctor couldn't stop it, so the man began to "picture" his pain. In his head, he drew a picture of a dog. He imagined it to be a real dog. And it was hurting him. Then the man talked softly to the dog. He put his hand on the dog's head and made friends with it. One year later, his pain went away!

④These stories may surprise you, but more and more people are getting well in this way. So call on the "doctor" inside your mind. and keep happy and well!

Mesa Verde National Park, in Colorado, America, has many "cliff dwellings"— places that are built into the cliffs（悬崖）where people once lived. They look almost impossible to get to. Who lived in them, and why did they live there?

People lived there about 800 years ago. Americans call them the Ancestral Puebloans（古普韦布洛人的祖先）. They grew food on the mesa （平顶山）, the flat land on top of the cliffs. They kept animals on the mesa too. They travelled over the mesa to trade with each other. Why didn't they build homes on the mesa?

One reason was the weather. Winters were getting colder and colder. The mesa was flat and open. There was no protection from the cold winds. Most of the cliff dwellings face south or south-west from the cold north wind. Another reason people did not live on the mesa is that there were more and more people to feed. Homes on the mesa would use land that was needed to grow food. Some people say a third reason was for safety. They say different groups of Ancestral Puebloans were fighting each other. The cliff dwellings were hard to get into. so they kept the people who lived there safe. Other people don't believe it. They say the groups tract ed too much to have seen fighting. Everyone agrees that these people were the skillful builders, who used every bit of space in the cliffs to make their homes.

China's space industry comes a long way these years.  As a Chinese citizen, I am very proud of this.  China makes great progress (进步) in exploring space, satellite technology, and manned missions (载人任务).  Now China becomes an important player in the space field. 

One of the most important achievements of China's space programme is the landing of the Chang'e-4.  It landed on the far side of the Moon.  This is a great moment for China and the world.  The mission has a spaceship.  It can explore the Moon's surface and sent back a lot of useful and important information and photos.  They help scientists better understand the Moon. 

China has finished a number of manned missions, including the Shenzhou spaceship.  It carries Chinese astronauts into space.  These missions help to develop China's space technology.  And they encourage young people to be scientists and engineers in the future. 

China develops a satellite programme too.  China has sent up a number of satellites for communication and navigation (导航).  People use these satellites in many ways.  We look forward to seeing the future of China's space programme. 

I am the only child in my family. My parents always care too much about me. They m{#blank#}1{#/blank#} every minute of my life. They help me do almost every {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (任务). Actually, I'm really unsatisfied and bored with their o{#blank#}3{#/blank#}. I even wish I could stay at home alone every day. My wish came true yesterday. My parents would be away for a {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(会议). In the afternoon, after I saw my parents off, I hurried home, threw myself onto the {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (沙发) and watched TV. I didn't turn it off until {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(午夜). Today nobody w{#blank#}7{#/blank#} me up, so I got up very late. I had to go to school with an {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(空的) stomach. What was worse, I didn't finish my homework because I played all day long yesterday. When school was over, I hurried home and tried to cook some s{#blank#}9{#/blank#} food. Unluckily, I didn't make it. At last, I only had a c{#blank#}10{#/blank#} of milk. What a bad day!
