山东省潍坊市(诸城、常以)2020年中考英语一模试卷

阅读理解

The spring season brings warm weather, flowers and other changes for people to enjoy. For some restaurant cooks, the most exciting spring arrival is ramps.

Ramps are a wild plant in the eastern mountains of North America. They are one of the first plants that grow in the spring. Usually between April and May. They are recognized (识别) by their red stem (茎), and two long and wide green leaves. They are also famous for their strong taste, similar to onions (洋葱).

Ramps are not as well-known as other vegetables, but they have a long history in the United States. In the Appalachian Mountains, ramps have been an important food for a long time. During spring it is common for small towns in the Appalachian area to hold large ramp dinners for the community.

However, over the last 30 years, ramps popularity has grown quickly. They are now a highly-desired vegetable for many nice restaurants in cities like New York and Washington D. C.

One reason the plant is popular is that it grows in the wild. It is difficult to grow them on farms. Most restaurants get them from foragers, who collect ramps by searching forests for some small pieces of land where they grow. Ramps have a short season. Within a few weeks of full growth, the plant is done for the year. This short life is some reason for their popularity.

And that popularity could lead to their disappearance from Earth. In 1995, the local government in Quebec, Canada stopped people selling the plant to businesses in order to protect the plant against being over-dug.

The season is short, but it has not ended yet. If you are in the right place, You still have time to try a taste of ramps yourself.

①Millions of people around the world cook their food on fire every day.People must spend lots of money on cooking fuel.However,there is a much easier and cheaper way to cook using energy from the sun.

②Solar cookers have been used for centuries.A Swiss scientist made the first solar cooker in 1777.Today,people are using solar cookers in many countries around the world.People use them to cook food and to heat drinking water.

③There are three kinds of solar cookers.The first is a box cooker.It is designed with a special wall that collects sunshine into the box.A box cooker is good for slow cooking of a lot of food.

④The second kind of solar cooker is a panel cooker.It has several flat walls that collect the sunshine onto the food.People can build panel cookers quickly.They do not cost much.In Kenya,for example,panel cookers cost just two dollars.

⑤The third kind of solar cooker is a parabolic(抛物线的) cooker.It has rounded walls that collect sunlight into the bottom of the cooker.Food is cooked quickly in parabolic cookers.However,these cookers are hard to make.They must be moved again and again to follow the sun.Parabolic cookers can also cause burns and eye injuries if they are not used correctly.

⑥You can make solar cookers from boxes or heavy paper.They will not catch fire.Paper burns at 232℃.A solar cooker never gets hotter than that.Solar cookers cook food at low temperatures over long time.This allows people to cook food and do other things at the same time.

①Researchers have used high technology to learn about a famous painting by the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. The painting is called Girl with a Pearl Earring. Vermeer was considered as one of the greatest art masters during the Dutch golden age of painting in the 1600s.

②The researchers' tests have found out important information about how Vermeer did the painting. He began making the work with brown and black paints on a piece of cloth. Then he drew the girl's outline(轮廓) in black before working from the green background to the foreground.

③A careful examination even showed where some of the paints came from. The white came from the Peak District in England. The blue was made from a valuable stone found in Afghanistan. The red was made from insects living in Mexico and South America.

④Abbie Vandivere was the leader of the research project. She expressed surprise that Vermeer used so much blue in the painting, saying, " The blue paint was more valuable than gold in the seventeenth century. " Vermeer, however, did not travel around the world to get the paints. He most probably bought them in his home town of Delft.

⑤The research findings not only show information about Vermeer's paints, but also tell us about Dutch and world trade in the seventeenth century, Sadly the researchers failed to find out whether the girl ever existed(存在).

 请阅读下面短文, 根据短文内容从每小题所给的 A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项

So far, China has successfully sent a large number of satellites(卫星) and spaceships into space. Space scientists have been greatly inspired(赋予灵感) by the old stories and ancient famous people when giving them names.

Since thousands of years ago, Chinese people have dreamed of going to the moon. Chang' e flies to the Moon is one of the most popular stories. As you can see, China's first man-made satellite to circle around the moon was named Chang' e I. More interestingly, the moon rover(巡视器) was named after the Jade Rabbit, who is the partner of Chang' e in the story. These old stories carry people' s best wishes and dreams. With the development of science and technology, our scientists have made them come true.

Kuafu Runs After the Sun is another story to show how much ancient Chinese people wanted to know about the unknown world. Now, Kuafu is going with the scientists to"visit" the sun, because we have a space project called Kunfu Mission.

Besides the ancient stories, space scientists also get ideas from ancient famous people. For example, Mori, an ancient scientist, discovered that light travels in a straight line over 2,000 years ago. His discovery made space study take a big step at that time. So, China's first quantum(量子) science satellite was named Mozi, making China the first country in the world to achieve quantum communication between satellites and the ground.

From such simple things as giving names to the satellites, we can see how great our traditional culture is and what influence it has on our modern science and technology(科技).
