Nowadays, protecting our environment has become an important topic for us. All of us live in one world. We are making waste every minute. When we finish reading a newspaper, the paper will become waste. When TV sets or computers are broken, they will become waste, too. Among all the waste we make, plastic(塑料的) bags and rubber（橡胶） stand out and catch people's attention. 

Plastic bags are often used in our everyday life. The number of used plastic bags is going up day by day. We like to use them because they are convenient (便利的). When we get home, we throw the plastic bags away as waste. These are called "white pollution" as most plastics are white. Rubber  is also common (常见的) in our daily life. Many things we use are made of rubber, just like the bottom part of our shoes. However, it also brings us some trouble. The rubber waste pollutes the environment very badly because it can't break down easily in nature - it will not change for a long time.

To solve the problems above, we should take action at once. For example, when we go shopping, we can bring cloth bags but not plastic ones. And we should do something to recycle (循环使用) rubber. Our small actions can make a difference and lead to a better future.

Holidays are very popular with students. They expect to relax and do something they like. However，what do holidays really mean to them？Usually，teachers will give them some homework and parents will ask them to read books，do extra exercises or take a lot of lessons. A junior high school did a survey among their students. It shows that a lot of students end up busier during the holiday. That is not only because they have many things to do，but also because they don't plan their time well. Instead of relaxing and enjoying their break，they often stay up late to finish their homework. And they find it the most painful experience. 

The following charts show some of their findings. Chart I shows different bedtimes of students during holidays. Many junior high school students go to bed late during holidays. They may forget that enough sleep is important for their health and better performance in learning. Chart II shows that more than 80% of the students read during their holidays，and 60% take extra lessons. Reading and learning remain an important part of holiday life，while doing housework and sports are not. 

During holidays，teachers should give homework which students are able to do and interested in. On one hand，teachers need to make sure students practise the key skills and knowledge when they are out of school. While on the other hand，it's important to make sure that students have enough time for something they like or want to explore. 

Parents should help their children make good plans for their holidays. Give reasonable advice and encourage them to read widely and take part in different activities. Finding a balance between having fun and improving themselves is the key to enjoying a good holiday. 

Without classes and exams, the summer vacation is an ideal time for Australian kids. For me, Nancy, it means much more than not going to school. It is also a golden chance to spend time with my family because I have little time with them during the school year.

Last summer vacation I travelled with my family to the Hawkes bury River in Western Sydney. It was one of the most unforgettable summer vacations in my life.

Staying by the river helps us escape from the hot weather and noise of the city. Every day, my family and I got up early to go swimming in the cool water. In the morning, we all took part in a big game. We enjoyed water— skiing, wakeboarding(尾波滑水) and other activities. These activities made our family feel closer.

In the warm afternoon, we peacefully read books on hammocks hung among trees by the river. The days always ended with a campfire. We sat around the fire, talking and laughing.

The river is a perfect place for people to forget about all the stresses(压力) of life and simply enjoy the moment. To me, it is the best place to spend time together with my family. I can't help thinking about those days again and again although so many months has passed.

Honolulu is the capital and largest city of the US state of Hawaii, which is located in the Pacific Ocean. It is along the southeast coast of the island of Oahu, and is the westernmost and southernmost major US city. It is a centre of international business, hospitality, and military defense in both the state and Oceania. The city has a mix of various Asian, Western, and Pacific cultures. 

Temperatures change little throughout the months, with average(平均的) high temperatures of 27 — 32℃ and average lows of 18 — 24℃ throughout the year. Honolulu has an average of 278 sunny days and 89. 4 rainy days per year. The average rainfall is about 16 inches per year, which mainly takes place during the winter months of October through early April, with very little rainfall during the summer. However, both seasons experience a similar number of rainy days. Light showers happen in summer, while heavier rainfalls happen during winter. 

As the largest city and airport location in the Hawaiian Islands, Honolulu acts as a natural gateway to the islands' large tourism industry, which brings $10 billion and has the greatest influence on the local economy(经济) every year. Honolulu's location in the Pacific also makes it a large business and trading centre. Other important part of the city's income(收入) includes military defense, research and development, and manufacturing. 

Sunny beaches and a sky-blue sea coast make Honolulu a best place for holiday. Honolulu is not only a place of beautiful sights, but also a wonderful place of shopping. The world's largest open-air shopping centre, Ala Moana Centre with many international products is located here. However, it might take tourists lots of time to get there because of the traffic jam and the lack of subway system in Honolulu. Except for that, it is still worth visiting. 

One girl leaves her home after a quarrel (争吵) with her mum.

She walks for a long time. Then she sees a noodle shop. She is hungry. But she doesn't have money to buy noodles.

There is an old woman in the shop. She asks her, "Girl, do you want to have a bowl of noodles?" "But I don't have any money," says the girl. "Don't worry." Soon, the old woman brings the girl a bowl of noodles. The girl eats for a while and starts to cry (哭).

"What's the matter?" the old woman asks. "I'm just touched! We don't know each other and you cook noodles for me! But my mother, after a quarrel, let me get out of the house!" the girl answers.

"Girl, how can you think that way? I just cooked you a bowl of noodles. Your mother cooks for you every day. Why don't you thank her?"

The girl is surprised (惊讶的) and goes home at once. Her mum is waiting for her for dinner. The girl comes to cry again.

To save time, many Americans buy foods which can be quickly made ready for the table. On holidays, families enjoy delicious meals. For example, on Thanksgiving Day, the fourth Thursday in November, family members get together for a turkey with pumpkin pie. 

The United States is known around the world for its fast food, such as hamburgers, sandwiches, pizzas, salad bars, and many kinds of ice cream. People can easily find fast food chains, such as McDonald and KFC, in most of the big cities in the world. 

These years many people have taken more and more care of their health while eating. They come to know eating too much meat will make them overweight. Many of them are also worried about food additives. Some of them may be harmful to the body.
