Have you ever heard of the facechanging, or "bian lian" in Chinese? Facechanging started 300 years ago. Now it's popular in the southern part of China. It's an important part of Sichuan Opera. While the actors are performing, you can see different feelings and characters through their face masks(面具). It's said that ancient people painted their faces to drive away wild animals. Later, Sichuan Opera makes this ancient skill become its own part and turns it into an art.

In modern Sichuan Opera, many skills are used to change masks, and they have been passed down only within theatre families. In the beginning, opera actors changed the colors of their faces during shows by blowing into a bowl of red, black or gold powder(粉末). The powder would stick to their oiled skin quickly. In this way, actors could change their faces in just a few seconds.

In modern Sichuan Opera, actors wave their arms and turn their heads, and their painted masks are changed again and again. Fullface painted silk masks are often used by modern actors. They are so thin that actors can change about 10 masks in 20 seconds. Actors change their masks with a hand or by turning their heads.

No matter how many times the facechanging is shown in Sichuan Opera, you can find people lost in wonder every time. And don't be surprised when you see the facechanging of Sichuan Opera on the street of a foreign country. The traditional Chinese art is getting popular around the world.

 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

Speaking of respecting the elderly, the first Chinese festival that comes to your mind might be the traditional Double Ninth Festival. The festival is celebrated {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the ninth day of the ninth month of the Chinese lunar calendar every year. The festival {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(know) as Chongyang Festival, too.

One of the main {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (tradition) during the festival is mountain climbing. People get together with their families and friends to hike up mountains to "stand high and see far". This has been a Chinese tradition since ancient times.

Traditionally, the festival is also a time to drink chrysanthemum wine(菊花酒), eat Chongyang cakes {#blank#}4{#/blank#} wear cornels(茱萸). The chrysanthemum wine is not only a delicious drink but also believed to be good for health. People also believe that cornels can help to drive out the bad spirits and bring good luck.

However, the Double Ninth Festival is not just a time for climbing mountains and {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(enjoy) the autumn scenery. More importantly, it is a time to show respect for the elderly.

As nine is the {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(big) single-digit(个位) number, and its pronunciation sounds the same as "long" in Chinese, the festival shows people's wish for all the elderly to live a long and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (health) life. So the day is also seen as a chance {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (care) for and express thanks to the elderly. Families usually come together and show respect and love for their elder relatives. People may also visit {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (they) grandparents or elderly neighbors, bringing gifts and sharing meals.

The Double Ninth Festival is of great {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (important) in Chinese traditional culture. It reminds us not only the beauty of autumn but also the value of the elderly.

 阅读下面短文,从所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

If you visit Wuppertal, Germany, make sure you take the Schwebebahn. It's a railway that runs for 13 kilometres and carries over 80,000 passengers(乘客) every day.

The Schwebebahn travels in a very different way. Its 24-metre-long train doesn't run on the track(轨道), but under it. The track is 12 metres above the river, so as the train goes over the city, passengers can enjoy the exciting sights freely.

The Schwebebahn didn't come easy. In the 1880s, the traffic in Wuppertal was so busy that the government had to develop a new way of travelling. At that time, a man named Eugen Langen was trying a railway under the track to carry products for his company. It was successful so later Eugen put this idea into the Schwebebahn. In that way, the space above the River Wupper got fully used. It turned out to be a very good choice.

The Schwebebahn gives special travel experiences to passengers. Its stations are as beautiful as art museums, so passengers won't be bored while waiting in the stations. A classical train also offers all kinds of services, such as food and drinks. What's more, people can book this train to have parties or even get married in the air! They will never forget this one- hour journey in the air.

Now the Schwebebahn is more than a railway for Wuppertal. It is a symbol of the city.
