About 1 in every 160 children has autism（自闭症）. Lots of people are working hard to help those children. And luckily, there are also robots helping them. 

Catherine, a Hong Kong professor, has developed an educational programme. It uses role-playing robots. The programme, Robot for Autism Behavioral Intervention（RABI), is for children with autism between the ages of 3 and 18. Its purpose is to help them be more social（社会的）. According to Catherine, more than 1, 200 children have taken part in the programme since it was started in2015.

As we know, it is tough for people with autism to communicate with others. Others can't understand what they want to say easily. So they feel worried or nervous about half of the time. The robots teach them social skills to make them less nervous. In a typical class, two small robots act out social conversations on a table. It helps the children see the difference between proper and unacceptable behavior. After that, the daughter has been in the programme for seven months. Her social and communicative skills have improved a lot. 

More than 20 non-profit（非盈利的）groups and public schools in Hong Kong and Macao have joined the programme and helped develop it. Catherine hopes the programme can help more children with autism. 

Yu, 32,is a maker of automata（机关人偶）in Chengdu,Sichuan.Thanks to him,wood not only comes alive, it also tells wonderful stories.

Interested in handcrafts as a boy, Yu first learned about automata by Kazuaki at a show in 2015 when he studied at the Communication University of China in Beijing. As an art and design student, he began to learn the craft by himself, and with the help of his tutor Lu Ying, he kept studying and examining automata in school.

When he finished school in 2016, Yu got a job at an advertising（广告） company in Beijing. He stayed at the company for three years because, at that time, he was not sure that he could make a living out of his hobby. Finally, in 2019, Yu quit（辞职） his job and returned to Chengdu to open his automata workshop. His hobby has become a career（事业）.

"A fascinating thing about automata is that they interest people of all ages. Adults see them as art, while children see them as toys to be played with,"Yu said, smiling.

Yu knows that there are many more creative ideas waiting to be shown."It feels quite good to pay attention to automata and I am still searching for myself."

The Maya (玛雅) number system(体系) appeared in the fourth century, which was about 1,000 years earlier than the time when the European number system was created. It is different from the Arabic number system with a base 10 (十进制). The Mayan system had a base 20. This system is believed to have been used because the Mayans lived in such a warm area and there was hardly a need to wear shoes, 20 was the total number of fingers and toes, so the system was workable. Therefore, there were two important numbers in this system. Besides 20, the other important number is 5, which had a connection with the number of fingers and toes on one hand or foot.

 The Mayan system used two symbols (符号). A dot (.) was used to mean the units ( one to four) and a dash (—) meant five. The Mayans were also the first to create symbols of nothing ( or zero). The most common symbol was that of a shell but there were several other symbols. It is interesting to learn that with all of the great experts on Maths and scientists in ancient Greece and Rome, it was the Mayan Indians who came up with this symbol zero or nothing. The following picture is a form of different numbers and how they would have been written.

 From further study, people found that the 360 day calendar(日历) also came from the Mayan. They actually used base 18 when they made the calendar. Each month included 20 days with 18 months in a year. This left five days at the end of the year which was month in itself, full of danger and bad luck. In this way, the Mayans had invented the 365 day calendar.

Starting a book club is easy—all you want is to love reading. Here's the way to start a book club.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}They could be friends, family or those you know through different activities, but they should all love to read. A small group of seven to ten people is usually the perfect size of a book club.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Pick a date (日期) and keep it. That way, members can easily plan for it. Send out emails a week before the meeting to give people a reminder (提醒). Set the length (长度) of the meeting time. Two hours is usually perfect.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}Libraries, parks and restaurants—all make good meeting places. For many clubs, homes are the best place as you don't have to dress up, and noisy (吵闹的) public places can make talking hard.
