The Tang suit is a kind of Chinese jacket. But it's not the clothing only in the Tang Dynasty(朝代).It comes from another clothing called magua(马褂) in the Qing Dynasty. The Tang Dynasty is known for being rich and powerful (强大的)in the world. So foreigners(外国人)call the Chinese in the foreign countries "the Tang people". And they call their clothes "Tang suits". Traditional(传统的) Tang suits usually have a Chinese symbol of good luck or best wishes. And people often see "fu" (means happiness and good luck) and "shou" (means long life) on Tang suits.

Now, Tang suits have become a kind of formal(正式的) dress in China. People wear them on some special days and places, such as the Spring Festival and formal meetings.

When you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they will become weak. When you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory (记忆) works in the same way.

When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.

 If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault (过错). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents may be blamed (责备 ) , and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people can't read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write but they have to remember things, they cannot write them down in a small notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories, so their memory is being exercised the whole time.

So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: practice remembering things in a way as other people do.

My problems started after I went to a new school far from home. I was only 14, and at first I missed my family a lot. I often called them and cried on the phone. But after two weeks, I found I enjoyed being with my classmates at school. 

I had many friends who were boys. I thought of them as my best friends—but only friends. I never guessed my friendship with boys would become a problem. 
    Then, three months later, my friends told me that some teachers and girls said I was hanging out（闲逛）with boys all day long in order to get attention from them. Seven months after that, the head teacher Mr. Wang asked the class to choose（选择）some students to join the Student Union. I thought I could win for I was doing well in school. I'd already won prizes（奖励） for the best in math and English exams. A week later, the list came out and it didn't include（包括）me. I was sad.

Mr. Wang came to me and said. "Don't be sad. I know you're excellent! Maybe you're a little distant（远） from the girls in our class. They don't know much about you, so some of them didn't choose you. It doesn't matter. Do your best to get along well with everyone and I think you'll make it next time. "

The late president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, once said: "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to a man in his own language, that goes to his heart. "

Mandela understood that our mother language is a very close thing to us. For people who speak an ancient tongue as their mother language, it helps them keep their traditions. Their language is their main connection with their ancestors(祖先). 

So it's a serious thing when a language disappears. Over the last century, more than 400 languages have died out. Some languages are now spoken only by a few dozen people, like Yagan in Chile. Africa and South America are also places where many languages are dying. 

Why are humans speaking fewer languages than we once did? The answer has to do with globalization (全球化). Nowadays, it's more useful to speak certain languages - English is one example - rather than others. This has killed some languages, usually ones spoken by fewer or less influential people. 

But some people aren't prepared to accept a planet with fewer and fewer languages. The United Nations has set Feb 21 as International Mother Language Day. The organization wants people to pay more attention to dying languages. 

This work is very important. As US writer Rita Mae Brown wrote, "Language is the roadmap of a culture. It tells where its people come from and where they are going. "

One night, the manager of a big company needed to call one of his workers, because there was  a serious problem with their main computer system. And the worker was the only person who could solve it.

 He dialed the worker's home phone number and the phone was picked up with a little girl's whisper(低语)." Hello?" the manager asked." Is your daddy at home?"" Yes," whispered a small voice." May I talk with him?" the man asked. To his surprise, the small voice whispered," No."

 Then the manager asked," Is your mommy there?"" Yes," came the answer." May I talk with her?" Again, the small voice whispered," No."

 Knowing that it was impossible that a young child would be left home alone, the manager decided he would just leave a message to the person who should be there watching over the child." Is there anyone beside you?" the manager asked the child." Yes," whispered the child."A policeman."

 Having no idea what a policeman would be doing at his worker's house, the manager asked," May I speak with the policeman?"

" No, he's busy!" whispered the child." Busy doing what?" asked the manager." Talking to daddy and mommy," came the whispered answer.

 Growing more and more worried as he heard something like a helicopter(直升机) through the phone, the manager asked," What is the noise?""A helicopter," answered the whispered voice." What is going on there?" asked the manager, alarmed.

 In a serious whispering voice, the child answered," The search team has just landed the helicopter." Surprised and worried, the manager asked," Why are they there?" Still whispering, the young voice replied," They are looking for me."

 People have told stories about Robin Hood for more than 700 years. Nobody knows if he was a real person or an invented character. In the legends(传说), Robin was quite smart and had a playful sense of humour. He loved playing jokes and tricks on people.

"Pick a card, any card!"

 The stories say that Robin Hood was a skilled archer(弓箭手) and he always carried a bow and arrow.

"Ha ha, too easy!"

 He wore green clothes and a hat with a green feather. He lived in Sherwood Forest with a group of outlaws(逃犯), known as his‘Happy Men'. The group included Friar Tuck, "Mmm. yummy!" Little John, who was unusually tall, "Little is just my nickname!", and Robin's true love, Maid Marian. "Take that!"

 Sherwood Forest was a royal(皇家的) hunting forest near Nottingham in England. Most people thought that forests were dangerous places to go. People travelling through the forests were often robbed by outlaws.

"Your money, please, my Lord!"

"Oh no, it's Robin Hood!"

 The stories say that Robin Hood only took money from rich people so that he could give it to people who needed it. So he became famous for‘robbing from the rich and giving to the poor'.

"Here you are, my dear."

"Oh, thank you, Robin!"

 The Sheriff(郡长) of Nottingham was Robin's arch-enemy. It was the sheriff's job to keep the woods safe and to make sure that nobody stole the king's deer.

"What's that? Is that Robin Hood?"

 The Sherlff of Nottingham tried to catch Robin Hood, but never succeeded.

"Oh no, not again!"

 Centuries ago people loved to tell each other stories of Robin Hood. Later he became a famous character in books, and nowadays Robin is still a well-loved hero in books, theatre, TV and films.
