After winning the first prize at the ASICS Tennis Junior Tour in Guangzhou in late August, 2022, Wang Fa quickly became popular online. Wang was known for carrying his tennis rackets in a bamboo basket, making him get the name of "basket tennis boy".

The boy, Wang Fa, 14, is a member of the Va ethnic group（佤族） from Yunnan. "We always carry bamboo baskets when we work on the farm. This is a typical farming tool（具有代表性的农具） of the Va ethnic group. I carried my rackets this way to honor（致敬） my hometown," Wang said.

Before playing tennis, Wang was just a common boy from a village. But in 2016, he was chosen by a club as one of the first 10 children to learn to play tennis. Over the past six years, Wang has practiced hard along with other players. The children would get up at 6:30 A．m. and practice for more than six hours a day. Every day, they needed to swing a racket more than 7,000 times and run 9 kilometers.

Wang's parents didn't want him to learn tennis at first. They thought it was too expensive. But the tennis club said they would teach him for free. Wang's hometown was just lifted out of poverty （脱贫） in 2019.

For Wang, winning the competition was the beginning of a hopeful future. "I will go for the top places in the tennis world," he said.

Mr Guo is a teacher from Xi'an. He asked his students to hand in their homework through a QR code(二维码). "We spent an hour or two in class learning how to generate(产生) the codes, and in the end everything gets easier", said Guo. "When students finish the homework, they keep it on WeChat(微信).Then, each student makes his own QR code and gives it to me. So I can check their work everywhere using my computer or telephone."

The QR codes can be sent to Mr Guo by email, QQ and WeChat. When Guo scans(扫描) his students' QR codes, their homework appears on his phone. He finds that their homework becomes more creative(创新的), with many pictures, music and even videos.

Guo's students like the new way and think it is interesting. "We are living in the information age. Many students like to work with computers which makes learning more fun," said Tingting, a student of Guo's.

"The paper is not easy to keep, but the code is easy to keep and share," Guo said. "It is worth trying to use new technology in education. Education itself is a kind of creation. I don't want my students to fall behind the times."

However, some parents are worried. They are afraid that their children will spend too much time on computers and less time communicating with teachers. But in fact, it's unnecessary. Students still need to look up information in books and write it down when they do their homework. They only use the code when they hand in their work, which doesn't take them too much time. Also for teachers, it allows them to check the students' work at any time. And it's also an easy way to share homework with other students.

My daughter and I were driving from Los Angeles to Dallas.We were running low on gas（汽油）somewhere in New Mexico and hoped to meet a gas station soon.

But that didn't happen and we realized we were not going to make it to the next town.So my daughter made up a sign that said， "Low on gas.Can you help me？" and held it outside her window，hoping a driver in the next lane（车道）would notice it and stop.

There weren't too many cars passing by us at that time.It was a desolate stretch of the road and about3：30 p.m.on a weekday.A truck was driving along in the neighboring lane ahead of us.We caught up with it in the hope that the driver would notice the sign.An elderly gentleman was driving it and after an expression of confusion（困惑） on his face，he seemed to have noticed the sign and slowed down to pull over.We pulled over right behind him.

He was friendly and was willing to help us.At first he thought we didn't have enough money to buy gas，so he offered to buy us gas at the next town Roswell that was about 10 miles' away!

When we explained our trouble，he said he was a factory worker and was returning home from work.His factory was about 10 minutes away and they had gas there，so if we could give him 20 minutes，get a can of gas and fill up our car for us.We could not believe our good luck!

We were filled with thanks for the kindness of strangers such as this person when we waited for him to return.Sure enough，he was back with the can.He refused to take payment for the gas.Tears came down，as did our warm thanks.

What do you think is the best place to relax in your city on weekends? Here are three students' ideas. 

Frank: I think Blue Moon Theater is the best place to relax in my city, although it's a little noisy there. Blue Moon Theater is not far from my home. It has the most comfortable seats and plays the best music. I go there to watch movies with my friends two or three times a month. 

Zhao Min: I think the best place to relax in my city is Haiqu Park. I go for a walk there three to five times a month. Sometimes I go there to play badminton. It is my favorite sport. And sometimes I go there to skate with my brother. 

Alan: I think the Red Star Library is the best place to relax in my city on weekends. People can read all kinds of books there. There is also a computer room in the library. People can watch videos or play computer games on it. Every Saturday after I finish my piano lessons in Green Piano Club, I go to the library to read books with my sister. 

If there was an empty lot (一块空地) in your neighborhood (街区), what would you want to turn it into? My classmates and I have turned such an empty lot into a place of hope.

The empty lot in our neighborhood was full of wild grass. As a project for our geography class, we wanted to change the lot. We hoped it could become a place to improve (改善) people's mental (心理的) health.

After weeks of designing, researching and making models (模型), we began our plans. Now the lot is a different place. There is a wood walkway with purple benches (长椅). Kids like the relaxing color, and they come to sit together and make friends.  

A few beautiful plants grow in the ground. There is also a bright blue hopscotch (跳房子游戏) board. We make it for a group of 8 to 10 school-aged kids who have no places to play in the neighborhood. And you can see a white wall painting with red words like "Love" and "Peace".

Now, the lot gives the neighborhood hope and beauty. More people love the neighborhood and have great hopes for things of the future.
