As I rushed among the tables, suddenly, a  1  asked if I could mind a child. I was quite   2 but I could tell the man was quite desperate. So I had to make a  3  with him that if he wanted his son to stay and wait for him, he had to 4  something in the shop．

       This was quite  5  for the man to do; I could  6  he was quite poor by the  7  he was dressed. It looked as if he had tried to come in his 8 clothes. But they still looked a bit old and worn out 9 he had often worn them, just to make himself look best. Looking down I could see his 10  were also a bit torn and the heels were in a terrible state. I thought he was going for a job interview. In the end he bought a small box of 11 for his little son and seated him down in the corner. I could tell the boy was feeling down and only could   12  with a bit of cheering up．

       Seeing that the kid sat there for quite a while, I was a bit  13  as the poor little kid was sitting  14  his own. People watched him and some kids even came over to pick on him. I was15  to see one of them even knocked his cookies off the table．He quickly went and got them back without saying a word．I was hoping his father would 16  up and come back for his son's 17  .

        At closing time, the only person left was the little boy．After a while, the father finally came in with a tiresome look. I  18 he didn't get any job．As they were leaving, I offered the kid a little cake, but the man rejected it. I19  he felt as if I had just abused him．Of course I didn't mean to．But I could understand why he felt like that．I only wished them good  20  whatever happened．

The man opened the door to leave－father and son hand in hand．

    I was 15, She looked like she was over 70. But on that day, I think she 1 me more than anyone else.

    Walking into church that Sunday was 2. I had 3 let anyone see me cry. But I 4 I would cry that day. My grandfather was suddenly ill. The doctors said he might not live much longer. Everyone else in my family was crying. I felt 5 inside, too.

    I went to the 6 that day to pray. There, I 7 a lady sitting at the end of my row. She was smiling. I closed my eyes and8 for my grandfather to get better. Soon, tears came to my eyes. When I opened them, she was gone. I never saw her again.

    My grandfather died the next week. We all cried a lot more,17 when I thought of that old lady's warm smile，I felt a little 18.

    How did she know how I was19? I 20 I could see her again, to say thank you.

    The other night, I had to go to a meeting, which lasted past my daughter's bedtime. I 1  home and was brushing my teeth when I 2, and there on the bathroom mirror was a note in the  3 of a heart. It said, “Hi, Mom! I Love You. Laurel. ” 4, I cut a heart out of a piece of paper, and pasted(贴) a(n) 5 next to hers, saying, “I Love You, too, Laurel. Love, Mom”, which she  6 the next morning.

    Our family has 7 that by integrating(互相) writing into our 8 activities, we become more thoughtful of each other. Meanwhile, our daughter is learning to enjoy writing and becoming a(n) 9 writer.

    While teaching in a primary school, I 10 how influential parents can be as children learn to write. 11 when our daughter first began to scribble（乱涂）, I became 12 by her work. I offered praise for her 13, for I found that scribbling is far more complex and important than I had 14. It was obvious that her scribbles, 15 being lovely art objects, showed a lot about her 16 of the world of writing.

    Gradually, our family began writing a great deal. I sensed that writing helped Laurel learn 17 to read. As a matter of fact, by 18 my own child and her friends and by reading professional books, I became more and more 19 about how writing develops and how 20 can help children become eager writers.

    All of us can give others a hand as long as we are willing to do so. Actually, there are some people doing kind things all the time. Spreading kindness, one good deed at a time, is Karla Gibson's mission. "I wish everyone could join me. There are so many 1things going on in the world; I mean every day," said Karla.

    Karla had the commitment and sense of2in December of 2013. The single mother of three said she tended to feel depressed around the holidays, so she 3to do something to cheer others up. She started a Facebook page and4her good deeds each day, from feeding the homeless to giving Easter gifts to the incarcerated( 囚犯) .She hoped to 5others.

    "We have to do something. Our6can make a difference in someone's day. You7know when someone might be having their worst day, and then something like buying them a coffee can change their whole attitude," Karla8

    Karla's greatest9so far had to do with coffee. On September 27th, Karla's birthday, she went to her local Starbucks and gave the10$ 127 to pay for othe: people's drinks. She sat at the end of the drive-through holding a11that read. "Have a great day." She ended up12about 23 customers. "It was really fun. I was13one of the best birthdays ever," she said. Her kindness that day didn't go 14One couple were so grateful that they surprised her with flowers and balloons to show their15.

    Karla's acts of kindness have become a16affair. Her two sons are always17others. "Sometimes I'll ask Kyle, 'So, did you do anything extra nice today? and his answers are like 'Somebody18something in the hallway and I picked it up or 'I held the door for someone', that kind of thing," said Karla.

It was a long time since I had seen my parents last time. Last Saturday I drove a long way to visit them, 1neither of them was at home. So I waited patiently at their home 2their return. Not seeing them made me really3.

Christmas gifts were still 5in boxes. There were 6on the wall, which I guess must have a 7 meaning to them. What 8 was seeing my dad's emblems (徽章) from his military service of our country when he was young. My father never 9to us about the Korean Wars. As I looked at those emblems hanging 10 with all the photos that he treasures, I 11 that this was an important part of his life, but I never spent 12in talking with him about them. The photos of my mom with her close 13made me realize her life before she was my mom. I had been so 14running my business to raise my own family that I 15the chance to know about their past and experience.

We sometimes don't realize something is 16for us until we have lost it, so it's not too late for us to talk to our parents about their past. I am writing my story to 17 everyone who is fortunate to still have their parents 18to invest some time to learn about them. I am grateful to have 19of my parents. Discovering a hobby can lead to amazing results, as Maria Martinez, an 11-year-old with a heart of gold, has proven.

Just over a year ago, Maria came across the world of clothes-making, thanks to one of the Christmas gifts she received. Little did she know that this newfound ability would become a source of joy and purpose, not just for her, but also for countless furry friends.

"I got a gift permitChristmas to start clothes-making lessons," Maria said. "I really liked it."

After mastering the basics, an idea came to her mind during a visit to a local exhibition. Surrounded by pet owners and their pets, Maria had an idea that would change lives. Why not create lovely bandannas (头巾) for dogs and cats and use them to support animal shelters?

With great interest and the support of her grandmother, Maria turned a corner of their home into a busy working room. Together, they made many beautiful bandannas, each one filled with love and care.

But Maria's wish went far beyond creating decorations. She began donating her works to shelters like Claws Forever in Fall River, hoping to catch the eye of some people who can take these dogs and cats home.

Maria also began selling them through word-of-mouth and at various events. "At first she started just donating the bandannas because it took her much time to make them. Then she got more skilled and was able to buy cloth with some extra income that she was making from it," her mom, Crystal, said. "Maria is a really kind giving person and she doesn't want for much of anything. It makes her feel good to donate. We are proud of her." Ranging from $3 to $7, money from her sales is now donated to shelters, too. A few weeks ago, she donated more than $200 to the Kingston Animal Shelter.

"They were happy and really grateful, which made me feel really good inside," said Maria. "It makes me happy to see how it's impacted the people and dogs."
