Once there were several scientists in a forest. They were trying to 1 the rarest animal in the world. No one had seen it, so everyone was 2 and wanted to be the first one to photograph and study it.

    The animal only came out at night, 3 the scientists did some other studies in the day. 4 them, there was a famous scientist named Walter. Every day, he would spend an hour sitting at the desk and putting all his equipment (设备) in the 5 place. He did this carefully. But other scientists laughed at him because they thought Walter was just wasting 6.

    One night, the animal appeared 7. The scientists heard its call. But the call didn't last long. The animal was frightened by the 8  made by the scientists while they were scrabbling (忙乱地找) for their cameras and notebooks.

     On the next morning, the scientists 9 their findings. Some had tried to record its call, others had noted down how it moved, and the luckiest one had even photographed parts of its tail and legs. They all congratulated each other on what they had found. However, when they saw what Walter had, they were very surprised. 10 had taken several complete (完整的) photos, the record of the animal's cry and notes about the animal.

    They ran to congratulate Walter. They now understood the importance of keeping things in order. Because of that, Walter could find everything quickly in the dark.

    I am Frank. In our western countries, there are four seasons or 365 days in a year. Usually, we sleep 8 hours every day. So we have 122 days for sleeping. Then our study or work time is only 243 days left. But there are 52 weekends in a year. Each weekend is two days. We lose another 104 days a year for work. It takes up about one hour to have breakfast and supper. This comes to 15 days over a year. Four free hours each evening takes up 61 days. But we can't work all the time, so we need holidays. We have to remember that we get 2 days' holiday at Easter, 3 at Christmas and 1at the New Year. There are also 4 Bank holidays. Take those 10 days away and we have 32 days for work. But then we have one and a half hours' lunch every day, and half an hour's coffee break. That comes to 30 days a year. This means that we have only a few days left for study or work every year. What about you in China?

    Kevin and his friend Mike loved to play soccer and they often met at the old bench after school. They couldn't1a real soccer ball, but Mike had made a ball out of old socks and plastic tape. It was not beautiful, but it worked well. Mike was not a good player, yet the two friends kicked and ran until the sun turned the sky pale 2.

    One afternoon, the home­made ball was spinning across the grass when it was 3 stopped by someone. It was Steven, a strong soccer player.

    "Look at you two with your 4 ball and old trainers," Steven laughed and said.

    The next day was Kevin's birthday, and his uncle bought him a new pair of trainers and a new soccer ball.

    That afternoon, Steven 5 Kevin to play soccer. Kevin did not want Mike to go with them. Mike's trainers were old and he had little 6 for soccer. When the game was over, Kevin walked past the old bench where Mike was sitting. He walked on and did not look 7.

    One afternoon as Kevin walked past the old bench, he saw something 8 under it. He looked closer and found that it was the home­made ball. Kevin felt sad. As his sadness turned to 9, he kicked his new soccer ball into the air. Up it flew, higher and higher, until it was a small dot(点) in the sky. Kevin walked to the bench and picked up the home­made ball.

    Holding it in his hands, he sat down on the old bench and 10.

Last semester, I joined the school's Geography Club, and it has been an exciting journey! In the club, we have various activities like solving puzzles and d{#blank#}1{#/blank#} skills like map reading. Our club members are a group of energetic t{#blank#}2{#/blank#} who love exploring（探索）the world.

One of our recent projects was creating a p{#blank#}3{#/blank#} on "The Wonders of the World?" . We worked in groups, and I was lucky enough to be in a good team. We researched（研究），designed, and finally showed it, which received a lot of praise from our club members.

During our meetings, we also p{#blank#}4{#/blank#} for quiz competitions. It's rocky, but when we celebrate our s{#blank#}5{#/blank#}, it feels just amazing. Our club leader always says, "Mind the geography, and you'll go places!"

Oliver Twist was brought up in the workhouse where only the poor and homeless lived. He was pale, thin and short for his age. The boys ate meals in a large stone hall. They ate a bowl of thin soup three times a day, with half a piece of bread on Sundays. The boys were always hungry and ate everything up. The bowls never needed washing. The boys polished(擦亮) them with their spoons(勺子) until they shone. 

 The boys got hungrier and hungrier until one day they intended to do something . One boy had to ask for more food that evening. So they decided who would go by drawing lots. Each boy took a piece of paper and anyone who got paper with a mark on it would do that. It turned out that Oliver Twist was that boy. 

 The evening arrived, the soup was served, and soon the bowls were empty again in a few seconds. The boys were desperate(绝望) with hunger. With fear, Oliver went up to the master who was a fat and healthy man. He held up his bowl and said, "Please, sir, I want some more. "

 The master turned very pale when he heard Oliver's words. "What?"said the master ina surprising voice. 

"Please, sir, "repeated Oliver, "Would you please give me more? I want some more. "The master hit him with the spoon heavily, then took Oliver's arms and shouted to tell the board(理事会). 

"He asked for more?" Mr Limbkins, the fattest board member, asked in horror. "The boy is ungrateful!" "That boy will be hanged in the future!" said another board member. Oliver was then locked up in a dark room.
