Whenever Fm invited to somebody's house for the first time, I'll take a close look at their bookshelves. What they keep on their shelves, in my eyes, is a reflection (反映)of their personal tastes and interests. The books on a bookshelf tell the story of a life.

My own shelves are a kind of roadmap through my life, telling a chronological tale. First up come my favorite childhood reads, like Watership Down and His Dark Materials. The collection then moves on to teenage things I read in school — Nineteen Eighty-Four, The Handmaid's Tale and A Clockwork Orange. Finally, we come out of full-time education and enter the real world, and this part is a reflection of my professional (职业的)life, from the first exciting days of work experience to the present.

If you pointed to any book on my shelves, I could name the year I got it, where I was working, and probably where I was living at the time.

__ It is an easy way to get to know about his hopes, dreams and interests. And a big part of that story is how we arrange (排列)our books, and get on with them. Ifs such a personal thing, different from each other. Some want to be with their books in every room, others have them on shelves, behind glass or simply lining their floors. Each home has a story to tell through the way they live with their books.

It's often said that what we read says something about who we are. The way we fill our bookshelves might also send a message about ourselves. The Xin'an Street Community(社区)began three programs not long ago.
The Neighborhood Clean-up Program
Every Sunday at 5:00pm, the neighbors begin cleaning Xin'an Street from one end to the other. The head of the Community, Zhao Fuqin, said, “The first Sunday, only eleven people came, but we picked up over seven big bags of rubbish (垃圾)from the sidewalk and street. The next weekend, twenty people came, and filled eight rubbish bags. Now the neighborhood really looks great!”
The Neighborhood Watch Program
The neighbors on Xin'an Street began this program to look for problems in the neighborhood and to call the police if necessary. The neighbors all say the watch has already helped.
SunYan, aged 60, a retired teacher, said, “In the past, I felt afraid at night. Now I know my neighbors are watching for trouble. ” According to the police, there are fewer problems on Xin'an Street. “Calls to 110 went down last month. Criminals knew that the people on Xin'an Street were watching, so they stayed away,” said a policeman.
The Neighborhood Fitness Program
A Health Club was built last month, where the neighbors can do different kinds of sports like basketball, ping-pong ball, tennis, etc. “Every morning you can see groups of neighbors running, dancing and playing Taijiquan. We have come to realize the importance of taking exercise,” said Chen Jinliang, a businessman of 45.
The community has more plans. “We plan to start the Kids Care Program for children. We are going to build an after-school club. And we want to have a picnic for everyone in the neighborhood!” said Zhao Fuqin.

Winning Color

You are getting ready to play a football match and you want to win. What color should you wear to help you win? You are getting ready to go to an interview and you want to succeed. What color should you wear to help you succeed? Strange questions, perhaps, but color could be the key to your success. Read on and find out how.

The most popular color in Britain is black. Wearing black makes people feel more confident, but can often make you look unemotional. This may be why people sometimes think that British people don't want to make a strong impression (印象). Although black is common in Britain, most people agree that in fact blue is the world's favorite color. The students in school and the people who work in business often wear blue. Wearing blue will show that you are an effective and hard-working person.

Sometimes people mistakenly think that red makes you look strong and successful. However, you will be seen aggressive (好攻击的) if you choose red clothes. New information now says that yellow, not red, is the color of winning. Australia and Brazil are both very successful in the sporting world, and the sports things of both countries are yellow. Strangely enough, athletes who wear yellow glasses during a race can improve their time by up to half a second. Tests show that the yellow color makes them feel positive and energetic and could be the difference between a medal and no medal.

So, next time you have an important event in your life—a race, a match, an exam or an interview—think about you clothes. The color of your clothes can change your life!

"You usually take chocolates or flowers. But you always take an odd number of flowers, and you remove the paper before you give them to the hostess. You can also send flowers before you arrive. You don't usually take wine except when you visit very close friends."

"We always offer our guests something to drink when they arrive, tea, coffee or perhaps water or soft drinks. We think it is polite to accept a drink even if you're not thirsty. If you visit someone you always stay for a few drinks. When you have had enough to drink, you tap your cup or put your hand over it. If you say no, your host will insist that you have more to drink."

"People's private lives are very important so they never ask you personal questions about your family or where you live or your job. They never talk about religion or matters of finance, education or politics, but usually stay with safe subjects like the weather, films, plays, books and restaurants."

"It's difficult to know when to leave, but an evening meal usually lasts about three or four hours. When the host serves coffee, this is sometimes a sign that the evening is nearly over, but you can have as much coffee as you want."

"If the invitation says eight o'clock then we arrive exactly at eight. With friends we know well, we sometimes arrive about fifteen minutes before."

"Obviously it depends on the occasion, but most dinner parties are informal. The men don't usually wear a suit, but they may wear a jacket and tie. Women are usually smart but casual."

Zhou Chuna,a normal 15-year-old girl,shared her experience of cosmetic surgery(整容手术),more and more young people in China are having cosmetic surgery. It was reported that 19 percent of Chinese medical beauty customers in 2020 were aged 18 or under.

Many beauty clinics(诊所) say that being more beautiful gives people an advantage in society, but the truth is that failed examples of cosmetic surgery are common to see. Once a teenage girl named Zhang had double eyelid surgery are common to see. Once a teenage girl named Zhang had double eyelid surgery.

Moreover,a large number of beauty care centers actually open against the law. It is said that China has about 13,000 beauty clinics.

More worrying,there is heated competition among the medical beauty clinics to win more teenage customers. Some businesses use catchphrases like "Only by becoming prettier can you be more loved" to spread" appearance stress". And many beauty clinics advertise directly to teenagers,encouraging them to" make some changes and let your classmates be amazed by your beauty in the new term". Some beauty clinics mislead their teenage patients by advertising low costs. One Internet user said she saw an advertisement for a 15﹣yuan treatment for pimples but the staff at the beauty clinic gave her a year's surgery plan which cost 8,000.

Many experts have said it's dangerous for teenagers to have cosmetic surgery. Teenagers are more at risk to advertisement and social pressure,not to mention their level of physical maturity(成熟). That's why they are calling for stricter rules on the beauty clinics when it comes to the treatment of teenagers.

When Leon Martin asked for his parents' advice on how to become a UX designer(设计师), they both went silent. "In fact, I had no idea what he was talking about, " said Anne, his mother. "I don't know whether he was talking about designing clothes, computer programmes of a fancy brand of bike. "

Even when her 18-year-old son explained that it was something about"behind the scenes" online design, his mother was still a bit lost. "I felt like I had totally failed as a parent, " she said. "My job as a parent is to open doors so my children can achieve their potential(潜力), but now can I do that when I don't even understand what their dreams are?"

Anne is not alone. Recent research has found that more than 2/3 of parents in England are now facing the problem. When their children express interest in new education and job choices, they may know nothing about them. More than 75% of parents feel it is almost impossible to offer their children good advice in such a fast-changing job market.

Michelle Reed did a survey of over 2, 000 parents of secondary school students in England. She found that many parents were afraid their children hardly follow them. "We all know that parents' opinions and suggestions play an important role in shaping and influencing their children's career dreams, " she said. "But we usually depend much on our own experiences. And things have changed so much since most of us were at school. "

Bryony Mathew, the writer of Qubits and Quiver TreesAwesome Careers of the Future, said the world was changing so rapidly that parents should not try to decide on certain careers for their children.
