The Ugly Duckling

It'sa hot summer. The mother duck is looking at her1 . She is very happy, and she is waiting. "Quack ! Quack !" the baby ducklings(鸭子) come out one by one. But the biggest egg is still there. At last, the duckling comes out. This duckling is very2 and ugly(丑的) , so they all call him "the ugly duckling " .

The ugly duckling is lonely(孤独的). No one3 him. His brothers and sisters don'twant to play with him. The other ducklings say to their mother, "He is so ugly. He is not your child." The mother duck is very4 . The ugly duckling cries, then he goes away(离开).

He walks and walks. Then he sees a small house. In the house, there is an old woman and a dog. The ugly duckling asks, "Can5 stay here?" The old woman says, "OK. Come in." But the dog

doesn't like him. So he goes away again.

Autumn comes, and the leaves(树叶) turn yellow. One evening, the ugly duckling sees a lot of beautiful birds. " Swans(天鹅)!"he6 ,"How beautiful !"He looks at himself and cries, "I'm so ugly."

Winter comes, the ugly duckling is very cold and hungry. A farmer sees him and takes him home.7 the farmer's son and wife don't like him. They drive(驱赶) him away. The ugly duckling is very sad. He goes away again.

Spring comes, and it's sunny and warm. One day, the ugly duckling 8 many beautiful swans. He says, "Nice to meet you." The swan says, "Nice to meet you, beautiful swan." He looks at the water.

He sees a beautiful swan. He is very happy. He shouts(喊), "I am aswan !"

Jason turned off the TV after watching the X Games. Sportsmen from all over the world were competing in the most amazing sports. 

Just then his grandmother walked into the room1 some cookies. Jason took one and said"I want to be extreme(极限). "

"You are!"she2 .

"I mean I want to be an extreme sportsman. "said Jason.

"Well, "she saId, "surfing is out. We are hundreds of miles from the3 . I guess it will have to be skateboarding. "

"Would you really let me? You always worry about my4 !"said Jason.

"You will have to follow some rules, "said his grandmother. "You can only ride in the park but5 on the streets. You have to promise to wear a helmet. If you hurt6 too much, I have the right to take your board away. Is it a deal?"

"You bet!"Jason was so excited that he jumped up. Cookie crumbs(饼干屑) flew7 .

On Saturday, his grandmother8 him off near the park. "I'll be up the street at the library. "she said. "Meet me there when you've had enough. "

"OK. Thanks, " Jason said9 he got out of the car. He was happy that his grandmother let him try new things.

However, while watching kids in the park moving up and down the ramp freely, Jason felt a bit 10 . He knew that none of it was going to be easy. 

Very 11 he carried his board to the ramp. Taking a deep breath, he put his right foot on the board. He kicked off with his left foot. For a few seconds he glided(滑) along, just waiting to fall. Finally he came to a stop. Then he tried again, 12 the worst to happen. Again, he stayed up safely. The 13 time he glided, lost his balance, and fell hard on his left knee. 

It hurt, but it was okay! 14 was he so afraid? Now he felt calm. 

Next time he kicked off harder and went faster and farther. 

"Excellent!"shouted a girl as she passed him.

"Excellent!"laughed Jason to himself. "Not quite. But I believe I will15 it one day!"

In China, it's common to see people on the streets using their fans(扇子) to beat the heat in summer. However, the traditional Chinese fan is not just a tool for cooling down, but a symbol of traditional Chinese culture.

The history of Chinese fans goes back to the Shang Dynasty (朝代) ( about 1600 B. C~1046 B. C). One of the earliest fans was known as Shanhan. It was a bit like today's umbrella. It tried to keep people away from the strong sunshine and rainfall. Later, Shanhan developed into a long- handled fan called Zhangshan(障扇).

In fact, the fan was not used to help people cool down until the Zhou Dynasty. At that time, fans were usually made of birds' feathers and mainly used by the emperors. Later, bamboo fans and cattail- leaf fans(蒲扇) were invented during the Han Dynasty. Both were most popular among the common people during the Song Dynasty.

Years later, the folding fan was introduced. It soon became popular. However, the best thing of a folding fan was the pictures on it. If a famous person painted the fan, it could cost a lot of money. For example, a folding fan painted by Zhang Daqian was sold for$252,000. Qi Baishi and Xu Beiho ng were also well known.

Throughout history, Chinese fans have stood the test of time. Today, there are more than 500 kinds of fans in China, attracting a great number of fan lovers both at home and abroad. However, it's difficult to carry on our traditional skills of making fans among young people now for many reasons. Luckily, Tag Design madea meaningful try. It developed an app " Folding Fan" which introduces the skills for making traditional folding fans. With the help of technology, these fan- making skills are surely able to stay alive forever.

I took a trip to Shanghai with my mother during the seven-day holiday. It took {#blank#}1{#/blank#} more than two hours to drive to Shanghai from my home in Haimen. Shanghai is a busy and large city. Its population is over 24 {#blank#}2{#/blank#} . That's {#blank#}3{#/blank#}than the population of many other cities in China. 

On the first day, I just {#blank#}4{#/blank#} in the hotel and rested. On the {#blank#}5{#/blank#}day, my mother and I went to Nanjing Road. It is the busiest street in Shanghai. When we got there, there were lots of people. We walked from one shop to {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. I bought two T-shirts and two {#blank#}7{#/blank#} of trousers for the coming summer. The T-shirts and trousers I bought are all white because white is my {#blank#}8{#/blank#} colour. My mother also bought some clothes. On the third day, my mother took me to Shanghai Disney Resort. It was full of people. I took many{#blank#}9{#/blank#} there. I had a good time. 

For the other days, I went to some other interesting places, such as the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the Huangpu River and the Shanghai International Convention Centre. I didn't forget to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} my homework in the evening. I had a full and happy holiday. 

November 7th is coming at last! {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (几乎) every student in our school is looking forward to it with great excitement, for the Sports Day is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (发生) on that big day. Our school has the great event {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (一次) a year.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (清晰地), the Sports Day is one of the most popular events in our school. It wins the {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (心) of all the students. This year, the event is going to be even more exciting, for there will be a swimming {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (比赛) in the new pool. As the event is coming {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (接近), everyone is working hard to get ready for it. On the playground, you could see the sportsmen's {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (最富有的) display (展示) of talent and sportsmanship, giving their best in every activity. "Our class had a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (讨论) about the sportsmen last Friday and I {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (计划) to take part in the basketball game." said a boy from Grade Eight.

The Sports Day isn't just about winning, it's about coming together, supporting each other, and enjoying the spirit of sportsmanship.
