US President Barack Obama came to Shanghai on the night of November 15, 2009 and began his four-day visit to China. This was his first visit to China 1 he became US president. In the following days he was very busy, 2 he still spent some time visiting the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. It took him nearly one hour to 3the Forbidden City on Tuesday. 4 Wednesday afternoon, he took a quick 5of the Great Wall at Badaling. There, he enjoyed a moment of peace. His visit to Chinese places of interest showed his respect (尊重) to 6 culture. And it was a good time for him to relax during a 7 trip as well. He said, “The Forbidden City is magnificent (华丽的) place to visit and I will 8 with my girls and my wife.” When he stood on the Great Wall, Obama said, “It's magical (不可思议的).It reminds (使想起) you of the sweep (进程) of 9.”

    In fact, Obama has always dreamed of visiting the Great Wall. Now he is really a 10 man. Just as the Chinese saying, “He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true man.”

    Dorothy lived in a small house in Kansas, with her uncle, aunt and a little black1called Toto. Sometimes there was a cyclone（飕风）in Kansas. It could, blow everything away. 2usually there were cellars（地窖）under all the houses. People went into their cellars when a cyclone came.

    One day, a cyclone was coming. So they3went into the cellar, but the dog Toto was so4that he ran under the bed. Dorothy had to pick5up. But6she got to the cellar door with Toto, the cyclone arrived and the house was moving！It went slowly up into the sky. Dorothy was afraid. “But we7do anything about it, ”she said to Toto, “So let's wait and see. "Soon, they went to sleep.

    When Dorothy8, the house was on the ground. She opened the door and found she was in a new place. Then, she saw three short men and a little old woman9a white dress. The woman walked up to Dorothy and said, "Thank you！You killed the Witch（巫婆）of the East, and you10us. "

    Dorothy was really surprised.

    I walked into the Huddle House Restaurant in Brunswick, Georgia and sat down at the table. I picked up the menu and was to order something for breakfast.

    "Excuse me," suddenly a soft voice came into my ear.

    I looked up and 1 a nice-looking woman standing before me.

    "Is your name Roger?"2 asked.

    "Yes, " I answered, feeling rather confused(困惑的) as I had never seen her before.

    "My name's Barbara and my 3 is Tony," she said, pointing to a middle-aged man sitting alone at the table by the window. He was 4 and weak.

    "Tony White, from Landon School in Jacksonville, Florida." She added.

    I looked at that man for a few seconds 5 I didn't recognize(认识) him.

    "I'm really sorry. The name doesn't ring the bell(听起来不耳熟), "I said.

    She walked back, began 6 with her husband and once in a while I saw her turn around and look directly at me.

    I ordered breakfast and a cup of 7, sitting there, trying to remember who this Tony was. "I 8 know him," I thought to myself. "He recognizes me for some reason." I picked up the coffee cup. Suddenly it came to me like a flash of lightning.

    "Tony, the bully(横行霸道者), the bad boy!" I could 9 believe my eyes. "Jesus! He's so thin now. Not the big boy that I 10 from back in 1977."

    Everything came up to my mind. The time this 11 boy had made fun of my big ears in front of the girls in my class, and the time this big bully had pushed me against the walls in the hallway just to make himself 12 a big man to all other students.

    "I am sorry, Roger," Tony rolled by me in the wheelchair, being pushed by his wife, raising his thin trembling hand. "I am so sorry for 13 that I did to you."

    "I'm…I'm er…" I didn't know 14 to say to him.

    A few months later, I received a letter from Barbara. Tony was 15. Tony had been a fireman and had been seriously wounded in a task.

    How I regretted(后悔) for not saying something to him but I no longer had the chance!

As I walked to my car at a shopping mall(购物中心), I saw a man. He was sitting on the ground with a board that said, "Please help".

I often 1 $20 to people like him, but now I decided to2 some time as well. I stopped and said, "Come on, brother. Take your things and let's get you some groceries (食品杂货)."

As we walked back into the3 , I knew his name. I learned that he had a place to live,4 had no money to buy food. I also knew that he was happy although he was poor. He shared his story5 , but I still wanted to help him. We started with some fruit and6 . He chose some tomatoes first, then got some carrots and a couple of onions. I 7 him what he hadn't had for a long time. He said 8 . So we chose a nice steak (牛排). As we were 9 , he told me he had two boys. A big pack of noodles went in the 10 . He also asked if he could get some books. Of course, that was fine, too.

I was not sure what had happened to this man, but he was 11 . He just only put what he really needed12 his basket. I know I will not do this all the time, as I don't have enough money to do so next. Treating people with love, kindness and warmth is 13 . Helping others is a good way to help the world, even just in a 14 way. We often feel that there's 15 we can do to make the world better, but that's just not true.

Woodcarving (木雕) is a traditional folk art form in China. Chen Jia, a young woman from Chaozhou, has concentrated (集中精力) herself on passing forward and innovating (创新) Chaozhou woodcarving.

Chen, born in the 1990s, began to learn the craft (工艺) when she was14 years old under the influence and support of her family. "I wanted to give up several times during the learning process, as I often hurt myself. It's also very difficult. My father wanted me to give up woodcarving and find an easier job. However, I fought on." Chen said.

Chen recalled that she had a strong sense of achievement when her first woodcarving artwork, which took her several months to finish, was sold. "Since I have learned it, I just keep going." said the artist.

To finish one woodcarving piece, a woodcarver usually needs more than 30 carving knives and wooden hammers of different sizes. A common theme for carvings includes different sea animals. In the past, Chaozhou woodcarvings were mainly used to decorate buildings, including serving as furniture and ceremonial objects. However, they have started to lose their charm among people living in modern life.

To attract young people to better appreciate the traditional art form, Chen has innovated on the craft in terms of its themes, shapes and usage. She now carves out small decorative objects and articles for daily use, hoping that more and more people will accept the art works as their liking.
