When I was ten, I was crazy about candy. Whenever in our small-town 1 with my mom, I would run my fingers through my favourite candy on the shelf.

    Once I noticed a man pushing buttons on the ATM machine. He seemed to be hurriedly waiting for his cash to appear. He quickly got a pile of bills and headed out. Curiously I walked over and saw a beautiful $100 bill at the bottom of the machine.2I wanted to believe my magic made the cash appear. I knew the man must have left it behind.

    I held the money in my hand, looking at the number "100" and feeling 3 than I ever had. I thought about putting the money into my pocket. No one would know, but it didn't feel4.So I told my mom what had happened. "We will look for him." she said. We rushed out and found him stepping into his car! We went over and asked if he had left money at the cash machine.

    "Let me 5" he said, pulling out his wallet and bill. "One hundred, two hundred, three...Oh!You're right," he said with surprise. "I'm 6a $100 bill."

    "Here you go," I said, smiling with pride, as if I was a detective who solved a mystery. "Thank you so much," he said. Before saying goodbye, he asked me for my name and address.

    On my way home, my7 was racing. 100 dollars. What could I have done with it? I bet I could have bought a puppy or every single candy bar or something else in town! But now 8 of that would happen. Yet I knew I had done the right thing.

    A few weeks later, I got a box with a note. I opened it to find packages of candy.

    "Dear Felice ， thank you very much for returning my $100. Your are a great girl, and I appreciate(欣赏)your 9action. I hope you enjoy this candy. Best wishes, Tom." The candy tasted sweet. Although my act wouldn't always be 10 with candy, it would make a difference to someone. And that was the sweetest part of all.

The Shirt of a Happy Man

    Once upon a time, in a rich and beautiful country, there lived an unhappy king. He slept 1and didn't feel like eating. The queen and his people worried about him very much. One day, a doctor was called in to examine the king. But he couldn't find 2 with his body. It was all in his mind. He said the king needed the shirt of a happy person to wear. Then the prime minister, the king's banker and the palace singer were called to the palace. But they all had3worries. They weren't happy, either. The prime minister thought many people were trying to 4, then he would lose his power. The banker was afraid 5 his money. The singer said he couldn't get freedom because he always worried about being followed by 6.

    7, the king's top general was told to go out and find a happy man in three days' time.

    Two days passed, the general still couldn't find a happy man. Everyone had their own problems, Just as he was about to give up, he saw a poor man8happily on the street. The general didn't understand why the poor man was so happy, though he seemed to have 9 power, money or fame. So he went up to the poor man and asked him about the reason. The poor man said he was happy because he had everything he wanted, and he didn't want to have what he couldn't have. Hearing this, the general was excited. The poor man was the Happy Man. So he asked the poor man to give his shirt10the king. "Shirt?" said the poor man in surprise, “I don't own any shirts!”

    Walt Disney began to make cartoon films when he was a young man. But he didn't have much money then. One day a mouse ran near his desk while he was working in his small office.

    "Would you like to be my pet?" Disney decided to make a cartoon about it.

    "I am making a cartoon about a mouse named Mortimer," he told his wife.

    "Mortimer Mouse? I think Mickey Mouse would be a better name," she said.

    "You are right," Disney agreed and made many Mickey Mouse cartoons.

    People all over the world saw Mickey and loved it. Mickey Mouse made Disney famous. Then came Donald Duck, and Goofy Dog and others. Disney began to make long cartoons. Then he made cartoon films for television.

    In 1955, Disney opened a wonderful amusement park in California. Real boats, castles, trains, mountains, rivers, all are in one beautiful park. Millions of people came to Disneyland.

    He died in 1966, but the world will not forget him. Mickey Mouse and all his cartoons will help us to remember him.

In a restaurant, a bug(虫子)suddenly flew in and landed on a woman. She started shouting out of fear. Then she jumped around with both her hands shaking, trying to scare away the bug. Her reaction was very strong and everyone in her group got into fear(恐惧).

The woman finally got the bug off her, but then it landed on another woman in the group. Now, it was her turn to continue the drama.

A waiter rushed to the table. The woman somehow managed to get the bug on the waiter. The waiter stood quietly and looked at the bug on his shirt. He carefully picked up the bug and threw it out of a window.

Drinking my coffee and watching the drama go on, I started wondering: Was the bug responsible (负责的) for what they behaved just now? If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed(干扰)?

He solved the problem perfectly without any fear. It was not the bug, but the inability of those people to deal with the disturbance caused by the bug that disturbed them.

I realized that it was not the shouting of my father or my boss that disturbed me, but my inability to deal with the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbed me. It was not the traffic jams on the road but my inability to deal with the disturbances caused by traffic jams that disturbed me.

It is not a problem, but my reaction to the problem that creates disorders in my life.

Turning Garbage into New Earth

My father is a quiet and shy man. He has his own creative ideas, but he 1  keeps them to himself. Don't get me wrong. If you ask him for advice, he is always glad to 2  his ideas with you. He goes about his business without too much excitement. There is one thing that really gets him 3 . Just mention the word "rubbish" to him! He is especially interested in 4  the rubbish problem. "We've become a throwaway society. We buy something, and then we throw it away. We shouldn't5  doing this, " he said. 

Last year, my father decided to do something about the wasted 6  we were throwing away. A family 7  nearly 500 pounds of food waste each year. Don't 8 , though. There is something that we can do about it. Food waste is also known 9 "organic matter(有机物)". If it is properly 10 , it can be changed from rubbish to compost(混合肥料) which can be added to vegetable gardens to make the plants grow really well. 

"We are going to start composting our food waste, "11  decided one night at dinner. "I bought a compost bin today. From now on, we should put all our food waste in the compost bin 12  throwing it away. Nature will slowly 13  it into compost. In a few months, we will have rich compost to add to our 14  . "

 It took a while to get used to it, 15  soon, we all got into the habit of taking our food waste to the compost bin in the backyard. Three months later, we were excited to find the bin full of rich compost!

What would you do if your best friend and you have different ideas? At first, I didn't know how to do when I found that my best friend Karina disagreed (不同意) with me on some things.

 When we first met in a summer camp, we got along so well.

 But then something happened at a picnic. "Did you hear about the shopping center news?" asked one of our friends Levar. "They want to cut down lots of trees to make room for a shopping center."

"That's terrible! We have to stop that," I said.

"I disagree," said Karina. "The shopping center would give new jobs to people in need."

"But animals would lose their homes!" I said. "I want people to have jobs, but it doesn't mean cutting down trees."

I wished Karina could agree with me about saving the trees, but she had her reasons for believing what she did. I was so angry that I didn't talk to her for days.

 Later, my mother knew it and said to me, "No two people are the same. You should respect(尊重) each other. And no matter what happens, the difference doesn't mean losing a good friend."

 After listening to my mom's words, I said sorry to Karina and we are still good friends now.
