You may feel bored in winter sometimes. But Harbin Ice and Snow World can make the long, cold months beautiful and creative.

Robots are very important in our daily life now. People like robots because they can do things for us. They can do housework. They can deal with data (处理数据) fast. Some people think robots can do everything nicely. But some things that are easy for us are difficult for robots. For example, robots have difficulty picking up things. This may make you feel surprised because even babies can pick up things easily. That's because our brains tell us how to use our hands to hold things. But robots can't understand these kinds of things. So they often break or drop things. 

Many scientists are trying to deal with this problem. Among them is Ken Goldberg from the University of California, Berkeley, the US. He has studied the problem for years. Finally, he came up with an answer to the question. He built a database for robots. All kinds of information about a thing, such as its size and shape, are in the database. Before a robot picks up a thing, it can find the information about the thing. In this way, the robot can pick up the thing easily. 

You might often use emojis(表情符号) when you talk to your friends online. But did you know when emojis came into our lives?

Before emojis, emoticons(颜文字) first appeared. Scott Fahlman was a teacher at Carnegie Mellon University, US. On Sept 19, 1982, he made history by posting"： —)" online. Guinness(吉尼斯) World Records called it the" first digital (数字) emoticon".

Over the past 40 years, emoticons and later emoji s became central to our online chats(聊天). GIFs and memes(表情包) also appeared. Now there are 3,600 emoji s for us to show our feelings, according to CNN.

Emojis are like our body language online. When we can't find the right words, emoji s can help. They make our chats more understandable. According to a 2017 study, emojis help us get the same happiness from online talks that we get from talking in person. Our brain sees them as language.

Emoji s change, too! Unicode brings new emoji s every year. And it cares about race (种族), gender(性别) and other things. In 2015, for example, it brought out emoji s with different skin tones(肤色). In 2016, emoji s about different jobs came out, with women's versions(版本) of them.

Do you know cosmic radiation(宇宙辐射)? Have you ever seen the auroras ( 极 光 ) in the sky? Cosmic radiation creates these pretty lights in the North and South Pole areas. It seems that cosmic radiation is a beautiful gift from space. But for some people, it can be dangerous.

A 53-year-old flight attendant(空中乘务员) in South Korea, who spent about 1, 022 hours flying each year, passed away due to cancer. His death was thought to be connected to great exposure (暴露) to cosmic radiation. During his lifetime, nearly half of his flights crossed the areas in and around the North Pole, where cosmic radiation is very strong.

Cosmic radiation from space is hitting Earth nonstop, coming from both the sun and other stars in the sky.

____ . Earth's magnetic field (磁场) and atmosphere (大气层) protect us from most cosmic radiation. The magnetic field is the strongest near the equator and the weakest at the poles. People living at higher latitudes (纬度), like in Heilongjiang province, are exposed to a bit more cosmic radiation than those living at lower latitudes, like in Hainan province. Also, when you go higher in an airplane, the thin atmosphere increases exposure to cosmic radiation.

Cosmic radiation can create health risks. However, what makes cosmic radiation dangerous also makes it useful. The high speed and energy of cosmic radiation have provided wonderful ideas for treating some cancer. Scientists can now produce man-made radiation similar to cosmic radiation. Compared to the present ways of treating cancer, it can work better with less harm to healthy parts of the body around them.

Everyone feels low or down from time to time. It does not always mean something is wrong. Feeling low is common after painful events or huge life changes. But sometimes periods of low spirits happen for no clear reasons.

Firstly, talk to someone. Your trusted friends, family members and teachers will be OK. Or you can just call a helpline. Secondly, read a book or watch a favorite television show. Having different experiences through others can make you feel happier. The experiences may from both reading and watching well-known characters on a favorite TV show. What's more, do some sports you like. There are many different types of exercise. They can improve your heart speed. They can make you feel good and, make you keep away from the bad spirit. At last, tidy your room. You can either put messy things away or make everything in order. And you can just clean the room. All these things will make you feel happy and relieve the low spirit.

Low spirit, even depression, is very normal. The key is that we should dare to face it, choose the proper way to solve it. Everything will be fine in the future.
