    When you are learning English, listening, speaking and writing are important, but reading can also be very helpful. Here are some good reading tips.

    Read something that you can understand. If you need to stop every three words to use a dictionary, it is not interesting.

    Try to increase the number of your new words. If there are four or five new words on a page, write them in your notebook. Instead, try to guess their meaning as you read: mark them with a pen. Then come back when you have finished reading to look them up in a dictionary and write them in your own vocabulary book. Then try to remember them.

    Try to read regularly(定期地). Fifteen minutes every day is better than two hours every Sunday. Fix a time to read and keep to it. You could read for fifteen minutes when you go to bed, or when you get up or at lunchtime.

    Read what interests you. Choose a book or a magazine about a subject that you like, because you are going to spend time and money reading it. You can also read newspapers. There are many English newspapers in China. It is easy enough to understand and also there is something interesting in it.

A. You should read as much as you can.

B. Try to read at the right level.

C. For example, read for a short time once a day.

D. But you don't have to write them while you read.

Many people run for exercise. But what will you do if you are not a “born” runner or jogger (慢跑者)? You may still want a kind of exercise that's inexpensive and easy to do. Why not try walking?

Walking requires no special equipment (装备). It is a kind of exercise that almost any normal, healthy person can do. Walking is good for your health like jogging or running; it will just take longer. Jogging and running make your heart work harder than walking. They also put more stress on your legs and feet than walking does.

    The problem with walking is that most people don't take it seriously. But there's a big difference between serious walking and the walking that most of us do. Walking, like jogging, should have a steady and continuous motion (稳健而持续的动作).

If you want to get your exercise by walking, you need to have your own walking plan. After all, runners and joggers set goals for themselves. Walkers need goals, too. You also need to set a course to walk. Start by walking about 15-30 minutes a day. Increase your time and distance (距离) slowly. And try increasing your walking speed little by little.

If you prefer to jog or run, follow the same advice. Start off slowly. Spend most of the first few days just walking. Then, start walking and running on the same day. Run or jog a short distance, then walk for a while, then, run, then walk. Follow that pattern for 15-30 minutes a day. Slowly make each run longer and each walk shorter. Later on, you can increase your distance, speed and exercise time.

There are many reasons to enjoy drinking tea. However, you should let the hot tea cool down a little before you drink it. Why?A new study in the International Journal of Cancer gives the answer.

"Many people enjoy drinking tea, coffee or other hot drinks. However, according to our report, drinking very hot tea can increase the risk (风险) of esophageal cancer (患食道癌), so you'd better wait until hot drinks cool down before drinking," the lead writer of the study, Dr. Farhad Islami of the American Cancer Society, said.

For the study Islami and his team followed more than 50,000 people aged between 40 and 75 years old. They found 317 of those people had esophageal cancer. The National Cancer Institute reported that about 17,290 Americans had esophageal cancer in a year and that only about 19% of sick people survived. However, five years later, they died.

The scientists found that drinking 700ml drinks (about three cups) every day or more at a higher temperature (温度)(60℃or hotter) would have a 90% higher risk of having esophageal cancer, compared (比较) with people drinking the same quantity at a temperature below 60℃.

This is not the first report showing a person drinking very hot drinks has the risk of cancer. In 2020, the World Health Organization showed a report. It found that drinking very hot drinks of any kind could increase the risk of cancer.

When we see a cigarette box, we'll see "Smoking is harmful to your health" on it. Children are not allowed to smoke by their parents or teachers. But in many countries smoking is becoming a bigger problem for young people. Most smokers start in their teens or earlier.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Some students think smoking is very cool, and they can see many people smoking around them. They want to have a try.

"But young people start smoking early, they will probably get addicted to nicotine(尼古丁). And it will be very hard to give up later on,"said a professor.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

What can we do to make them stop smoking? Some people think we can make a law. Teenagers under 18 are not allowed to smoke, or they should be fined(罚款). Parents should give up smoking. They can set an example to their children .

"Every year about eight million people die of ". Every year about eight million people die of smoking. And if people keep smoking, the number will increase(增长) 10 million a year from now on," said the World Health Organization. So we must learn and tell others about the danger of smoking.
