There is an English saying:" Laughter is the best medicine." Until {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, few people took the saying seriously. Now however, doctors have begun to look into laughter and the effects it has on the human body. They find that it {#blank#}2{#/blank#} people's blood pressure, the heart beating and breathing. It {#blank#}3{#/blank#} works the stomach and even the feet. So laughter exercises the body and improves people's health.

As a result of these discoveries, some doctors in the United States now hold laughter clinics; in which they help to improve their patients' condition {#blank#}4{#/blank#} encouraging them to laugh. They have found that even if their patients do not really feel like {#blank#}5{#/blank#}, making them smile is enough to produce beneficial effects similar to those caused by laughter.

Recently, I've found many old photos of Mom, Dad, David, me and my first dog Coco. They meant a lot to me. I wondered how to keep them forever. Luckily, my son used a new app to clear up and improve some of the old photos. Looking at them brought back so many loving and happy memories. I even used one as my computer screen saver(屏保).

It is a picture of me sitting in my favorite chair,across from the wood stove(炉子) next to a bookcase full of old books. I am wearing my special Snoopy shirt and hugging Coco. There is a big smile on my face and a joyful shining light in my eyes. It was how I spent a lot of my winter afternoons as a girl, hugging Coco and reading an old book.

It is surprising how 60 years later that girl still lives inside of me. I still love comfortable chairs, warm stoves, Snoopy clothes, hugging dogs and reading books on cold winter days. But when I look in the mirror now, all I see is a thin face, grey hair, and lots of wrinkles(皱纹). The only thing that hasn't completely changed is the eyes. They are hiding behind glasses now and full of wisdom(智慧) given by ages. But they still have that same joyful shining light.

Looking at the little girl smiling at me from the computer screen and that 66-year-old woman looking back at me in the mirror can be a little bit strange at times. They look so different. However, they are both me. We can't stop getting older, but we can remain both joyful and young at heart forever.

I was in line waiting to pay. In line there were two people before me. A little boy was 1 some rather strange clothes. He talked with anyone who was interested in the 2 and soon we learnt that he was going to a kindergarten party. He had done a great job of putting together interesting costumes. 

I 3 that the little boy was paying mostly with change (零钱). It seemed that he had taken all his money to do this shopping. 4 , the cashier told him he was short 5 counting all the money. The boy thought for a moment and said, "Please keep the shirt and I will 6 with more money." 

It was clear that he had already used all the money he had, but he was $8.00 7 . The lady in front of me said, "Well, I could 8 half of that." I told the boy that I could pay 9 half. We dug into our handbags. However, both of us only had ten-dollar bills (纸币) and we needed the cashier to get the change for us. Other shoppers began digging into their pockets to find some change. It was amazing and touching as all these strangers seemed to react (反应) with the same mind. All wanted to help the boy. Within 10 the cashier said, "I have too much money." The cashier didn't need our ten-dollar bills. Then the lady in front of me, who had been the 11 to offer help, said, "Wait! I didn't even get a chance to give 12 !" 

I smiled at her and said, "You did your share, because it was your idea and you started all this." The little boy smiled and thanked us. We wished 13 the best and he left. I left with a good feeling. I had seen the 14 and goodness of others all around me. The woman in front of me smiled and said, "It surely feels good to 15 , doesn't it?" I smiled back and said, "Yes!"

My friend Jack is a taxi driver. He has done this job for ten years. It's a nice job most of the time. He can meet a lot of people every day. He usually goes home after two o' clock in the morning. There are some very strange things, which often happen at night.

 One day, Jack was taking a young lady back home from a party at three o' clock in the morning. She had her little dog with her. When they got to her house, she found that she had lost her key. So Jack waited in the taxi with the dog while she climbed into her house through the window. Jack waited for about half an hour outside, but the young lady didn't show up. So he decided to find out what was going on. He tied the dog to a tree and started to climb in through the window.

 At that moment some policemen came. They thought Jack was a thief who wanted to get into the house to steal things. Luckily, the young lady came downstairs. She went to sleep and forgot about her friend and the dog.

One weekend, my husband suggested we cook together. I had spoken to my mother earlier that day on the phone. I had told her about our life. She yawned(打哈欠) and we said 1 to one another. 

I didn't know then that just 16 hours later, my mother would die. 

My mother was my best friend. After she died, I felt 2 . She was the only person I wanted to 3 . The only person who could help me was the one who was missing.
