In China, each year we produce about 150 million tons of city waste according to a report. Where does the waste go? People usually burn or bury (埋) it. On the other hand, we receive waste from some developed countries. We get useful materials from it. What about the useless part? Still burned or buried. But is it a proper way?

Waste pollutes the environment, harms people's health and causes animals to die. It also gets in the way of green and sustainable development. We can't make money at the cost of the environment; we should leave clean water and green mountains to our next generation (一代). 

China is getting really serious about waste now. 

We are taking less waste from developed countries. From January 2018, China started to stop 24 kinds of waste coming into our country. And more laws and rules about dealing with waste have been made. Anyone who breaks the law will be punished. 

China also tries to put waste into good use. One example is the waste electricity factories. They burn waste to make electricity in a green way. No harmful gases (气) or water will get into the environment. 

The Chinese government is encouraging people to do waste sorting (分类). Cities like Shanghai, Chongqing and Beijing have their own sorting systems. More will join them soon. As President Xi Jinping said during a visit to Shanghai, waste sorting is a new fashion. More and more people are forming the habit of separating their waste.

Do you feel lonely when your best friend isn't around? Here's our advice to you—and to all kinds who feel lonely sometimes. 

It's hard when a best friend isn't around—maybe because he or she moved to a different school or a different class. You may feelleft out during break（间歇）or lunchtime. You want to make new friends, but how do you find them? Maybe it seems like everybody else already has his or her own friends. But remember, there's always room for more friends. 

Start by looking around your classroom—think about which kids you'd like to play with during break. Look for chances（机会）to say hi to them, smile, and be friendly. Offer（主动提出）to share something or express（表达）your appreciation（欣赏）to them. Invite someone to play with you or say "Do you want to sit here?" in the lunchroom. When you're at break, walk over to kids you want to play with, act（举止）friendly, and say "Hi, may I join you?" or just join in. 

If you have trouble（问题）doing this or if you're feeling shy, ask your teacher to help you make new friends. Teachers are usually pretty good at matching（相配）people up. The best way to make friends is to be a friend. Being kind, being friendly, sharing, saying nice things, offering help—pretty soon, you'll have one, or two, or even more new friends. 

You might still miss that special best friend. But when you see each other again, you can share something you didn't have before he or she left: You can introduce him or her to your new friends!

Hong Kong has forty public beaches(海滩). Some of the beaches are among the best in the world. People can go there for a swim. You can go to most of them by bus. To go to some beaches you must take a boat. There are toilets, changing rooms and places to buy food and drink on most of the beaches.

You will swim there without danger if you remember these instructions(提示):

1.Never swim alone. 

2. Never swim after a meal or when you feel hungry or tired. 

3. Do not stay in the water too long. 

4. Never go out in a boat if you cannot swim.

Remember: A red flag (旗)means that it is dangerous for anybody to go into the water. A blue flag means that it is dangerous for children.

Medflies (果蝇) are a big headache for farmers worldwide. They can lay their eggs in over 300 kinds of fruits and vegetables. The worst thing is that when they make their way into an area, it is hard to keep the products free of them.

Medflies lay eggs inside the poor fruits or vegetables. When the eggs break, they turn into worms that can seriously damage the products. The problem is that it can be hard to know that the flies are there until it's too late. The fruits and vegetables still look normal even after the eggs are laid inside. Once the damaged fruits and vegetables are sent to other places, the Medflies spread and reproduce at a surprisingly fast speed.

In the 1980s, three Medflies were found on a farm in California. To stop the problem from spreading, the local government set up a quarantine area (隔离区) where no fruits, nuts, or vegetables can be moved out. Meanwhile, it developed a program to keep Medflies under control. The plan involved using planes to spread millions of male Medflies out over the area. According to the scientists, these Medflies all have been treated with a special method to make sure that they can't help produce new Medflies. That means even though new eggs are laid, they will never grow.

Dropping millions of Medflies sounded like a bad idea, but to everyone's surprise, the program worked well. The government says the number of Medflies in California has shrunk by over 90%. Now we can fight Medflies with Medflies!

①We all want to have great parties on our birthdays. But it's not easy to have a great party. Let me tell you how to have a great party. 

②We need to have it on the right day. If your friends or classmates are busy on that day, some of them will not come to your party. Saturday and Sunday are good days for a party because the students don't go to school. You can have your party on Saturday afternoon. It's OK to have it on Sunday afternoon, too. 

③You need to invite (邀请) your friends and classmates to your party. Tell them when and where you have the party. If you have the party on Saturday, you need to tell them on Thursday. Then they can have time to prepare (准备) a present for you. 

④Think about games for the party. If your friends and classmates like playing games at the party, you need to think about proper (合适的) games. The games need to be easy and interesting for your friends and classmates. Then you can have a good time at the party.
