One day, a lady on a carriage saw a young man walking on the rocky road.1 the young man didn't wear shoes and it seemed that there was 2 wrong with his feet.

    She asked the driver3him up, and said she would pay4 him. Then she asked the young man 5. He said he was going for the nearest sea-port, to offer himself as a sailor.

    Twenty years 6 on the same road, a sea-captain 7 was on a carriage saw an old lady walking along, and he made the driver stop his horses. He pulled up8old lady, saying, “I'll pay the money.”

    After 9 on the carriage, the old lady thanked the captain, “for,” said she, “I am10 poor to pay for a ride now.” The captain said, “I remember, twenty years ago when I was a poor man, near this very place, I 11 a ride on a carriage along the road by a kind lady.” “Ah,” she was 12“I am that lady! But things13with me since then.” “Well”, said the captain, “I have made some money, and have come home to enjoy it. I 14you twenty-five pounds a year if you accept my offer.” The  old lady's eyes were full of tears, and 15accepted the sailor's offer.

Albert Einstein was a world famous scientist. He was born in Germany and later lived in America. He was best known for his theory of relativity（相对论）. This theory changed the way we understand space and time. Einstein had wild hair and always looked deep in thought. He always reminded us to keep asking questions.

One day, a young man asked Albert Einstein what the secret of success was. The scientist told him that the secret of success was hard work. A few days later the young man asked the same question again. Einstein was very "annoved". He did not say anything, but wrote a few words on a piece of paper. On the paper it was written: A=X+Y+Z.

"What does this mean?" asked the young man.

"‘A' means success." explained the old scientist. "‘X'stands for hard work, ‘Y' forgood method（方法）and ‘Z' means stop talking and get down to work."

Once upon a time, there were two fishermen called Luke and Jim. They were good at fishing. One day they went fishing by the lake. Jim {#blank#}1{#/blank#} fishing alone. Luke was an outgoing person who loved to make {#blank#}2{#/blank#} with different people.

When Luke found that some tourists at the lake couldn't catch any fish, he said to them,"I can teach you how to fish. If you catch ten fish, give me one fish as compensation (报酬). But {#blank#}3{#/blank#} you get fewer than ten, you don't need to give me anything." The tourists and Luke came to an agreement {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. After that, Luke started to {#blank#}5{#/blank#} them some fishing skills. After he finished teaching a {#blank#}6{#/blank#}, he went to teach another group. Hours later, he asked the tourists to give {#blank#}7{#/blank#} one fish for ten fish that they caught. At the end of the day, Luke got a full bucket of fish, and also made a lot of {#blank#}8{#/blank#} friends. The tourists regarded him as {#blank#}9{#/blank#} good teacher for teaching them how to fish.

As for Jim,{#blank#}10{#/blank#} fishing for a whole day alone, he looked into his fish bucket, and found he had far fewer fish than his friend. He felt very upset.

Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day is on the first Sunday in September. It is a day to celebrate grandparents. It is celebrated in a few countries around the world. It is always important to respect your elders. 

The night before Grandparents Day, Nancy and May couldn't go to sleep because they wanted to do something for their grandparents. "Now, " said Nancy, "It's time for us to do something for our grand- parents. Let's think about a surprise for them. " The children thought and thought. 

At last May got a good idea. She said, "Oh, I'll tell you. " And she began to talk very fast. "Oh, oh!" said Nancy. "That is just the thing!" The next morning the children got up early. They were very busy making breakfast. After some time, they called their grandparents. "Happy Grandparents Day!" they said. "Breakfast is ready. ""Oh, what a surprise!" their grandparents cried. 

Your grandparents have learned a lot. What have they taught you? Did your grandpa teach you how to fish? Did your grandma show you how to bake cookies? If you think about how much your parents do for you, just remember that your grandparents helped them that much, too! How can you return the favor? Do they need your help now? Maybe they would just like to see you or hear you on the phone!

We all need good friends and want to get on well with them.  But what do you do when you and your best friend have 1 ideas? At first, I didn't know what to do when this happened to my best friend Karina and me. 

When we first met at a summer camp, we got along so 2 that we shared stories, laughed a lot, and quickly became inseparable (形影不离的) friends.  But then something happened at a picnic.  "Did you hear the news about the shopping center?" asked one of our friends Levar.  "Some people plan to3 many trees to make room for a shopping center. "

"That's terrible! It will be bad for our environment (环境).  We have to 4 that," I said. 

"I don't think so," said Karina.  "The shopping center will give people new jobs. "

"But animals will 5 their homes!" I said.  "I want people to have 6 , but it doesn't have to do such a terrible thing. "

I wanted Karina to join me in 7 trees, but she didn't want to.  I was so angry that I didn't 8 her for days.  Later, my mother knew it and said to me seriously (严肃地), "No two people are the same.  You should 9 each other.  Don't let the 10 make you lose a good friend. " After listening to my mom's words, I said sorry to Karina.  Now we're still good friends.
