    There was once an old and deep well．People got water by dropping a bucket（木桶） tied to a rope．The rope passed over a wheel just above the well．On the other side of the rope was another bucket．

    A strong pull brought one bucket to the top while the other down to the water．They always passed each other on the way up and down，but never had time to speak．

    At last，the rope became worn．So a new rope had to be put in its place．While this was being done，the two buckets were left standing together near the well．

    "What a boring life we have!"said one bucket to the other．"I am quite tired of it．No matter how full we come up，we are always sent down empty．"

    But the other bucket laughed and said，"What a funny way you have of looking at things!Don't you see that whenever we are sent down empty，we always come up full？'

    Boys and girls sometimes talk like these two buckets．You may hear one of them say，"Just as we are having a good game，we are made to stop and go to work again．""Yes，"the other will reply，"but as soon as work is over，we always get to go out and have fun again．"

    There are two ways of looking at things．If you want to be happy，look at the bright side．

    Tina graduated from college. Several days later, she got a new job. She would work in the biggest company(公司)in her city. Her friends admired her very much.

    On her first workday, Tina arrived at 8:45 a. m. She took the lift to the 11th floor(楼层), and a clerk showed her where her desk was. As a green hand, she didn't know what to do, so she tried to talk to the girls who sat near her in the office. However, they were not friendly to her. After a while, a young boss came in. Tina was surprised that the boss was not the old man who interviewed her several days ago. The boss gave her a lot of reports to write. But when she began to write, she found that she had much trouble understanding the reports. She spent almost the whole day trying to do the work. At5:30pm., it was time to go home. Although most of the reports weren't finished, she got into the lift. On the 10th floor, she was greeted by John, the old man who interviewed her several days ago. "Tina!" He said, "Why didn't you work with us today?" All of a sudden, Tina realized she mistook the 11th floor for the 10th floor. "Oh, my God!" She answered, "     " After hearing this, John couldn't help laughing.

    When she was at the age of 9,Katie planted a cabbage seed(种子)in the garden outside her house. She took care of it every day by watering it, weeding(除草)it and giving it plant food. At last, it grew to be HUGE! More than 18 Kilograms huge!

    Katie wanted to do something special with this very special cabbage. With her mom's help, Katie made up her mind to donate(捐赠)it to a local soup kitchen to help feed the hungry people in her community(社区).

    When she arrived to make her donation, she saw a long line of people waiting for food. Then Katie gave her cabbage to the guests. As people thanked her, she knew she could do more to help. With the help of her parents and school, Katie's Krops was born! Katie's Krops creates gardens to grow food that is donned to local soup kitchens to feed the hungry.

    Katie's dream is to end hunger around the world. So, after she created several gardens in her community, she decided to do more. She wanted to help other kids create gardens in their own communities!

    There are now about a hundred Katie's Krops gardens growing all over the United States! Kids between the age of 9 and 16 take care of them.

    Little Mike's grandma died weeks ago. He missed her very much. One afternoon Mike went to the city park where his grandma used to go. There he saw an old lady. She looked very kind. She was sitting there, watching pigeons(鸽子). Little Mike went up and sat next to her. He took out his food and drinks and gave some to her. She smiled at him. Her smile was so sweet that Mike wanted to see it again. She seemed to understand him, so once again she smiled. Mike was very glad.

    They sat there all the afternoon, eating and talking. As it grew dark, Mike got up to leave. Before he left, he hugged(拥抱) the old lady and she gave him her sweetest smile.

    When Mike got home, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. "I met a granny in the park. Her smile was like the kind of smile I had seen on Grandma's face."

    The old lady also returned to her home happily. She told her son that she had food and drinks with a little boy. "He was as lovely as Brittany." she said. Her son was surprised, because he had never seen her so happy since Brittany, her grandson, died weeks ago.
