Hans said to his friend Kurt, "I'm going to take my car and drive to London." Kurt said," Driving to London is very difficult. You aren't going to find your hotel." But Hans was not afraid. He drove to Calais, put his car on his ship, took it off at Dover and drove to London.

He stopped near the city and looked at his map. Then he drove into London, but he didn't find his hotel. He drove round and round for an hour, and then he stopped and got out of his car. A taxi came, and Hans stopped it. "Take me to the Brussels Hotel." he said. But he didn't get into the taxi; he got back into his car.    I have made a time machine. It can take people to the past or the future for five hours. I thought that it would be fun to see what my father was like when he was 10 years old.
   I got into my time machine and keyed in the words, “1981, 11 Niven Road, New York ” then pressed the button … In a moment, I was in front of a house, 11 Niven Road.
   I saw four children looking for a lost dog. They were my father, my uncle Tom, my aunts Peek and Janet. I went up to them and helped them look for their dog, Jack.
   We wanted to climb a hill and looked for Jack. When we reached the top, we heard a dog barking. “Jack!” my father shouted . Then we saw Jack was standing in front of a man.
   We asked the man to return Jack to us. The man had to give Jack back to us.Happily, We went back to 11 Niven Road and I said goodbye to them . My five hours were almost up. I ran to the machine and soon I was back in my time . What an unusual experience!

One day an old man is selling a big elephant. A young man comes to the elephant and begins to look at it slowly. The old man goes up to him and says in his ear, “ Don't say anything about the elephant before I sell it. Then I will give you twenty dollars.” “All right,” says the young man. After the old man sells the elephant, he gives the young man twenty dollars and says, “ Now, can you tell me how you found the elephant's bad ears?” “ I didn't find the bad ears,” says the young man. “ Then why are you looking at the elephant slowly?” asks the old man. The young man answers, “Because I have never seen an elephant before, and I want to know what it looks like.”

When I was about 12, I had an enemy, a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings(缺点). Sometimes she said I was thin. Sometimes she said I was lazy. Sometimes she said I wasn't a good student. Sometimes she said I talked too much, and so on. I tried to put up with(忍受) her as long as I could. At last, I became very angry. I ran to my father with tears in my eyes.
He listened to me quietly, and then he asked, "Are the things she said true or not? Mary, didn't you ever wonder what you're really like? Go and make a list of everything she said and mark the points that are true. Pay no attention to the other things she said."
I did as he told me and to my surprise, I discovered that about half the things were true.
I brought the list back to my dad. He refused to take it. "That's just for you," he said. "You know better than anyone else the truth about yourself. When something said about you is true, you'll find it will be helpful to you. Don't shut your ears. Listen to them all, but hear the truth and do what you think is right."
Many years have passed. The situation often appears in my mind. In our life we often meet with some trouble and we often go to someone and ask for advice. For some advice you will treasure(珍惜) all your life!

    Tony Wheeler was born to travel. His father worked for an airline. For the first 16 years of his life. Wheeler and hisfamily lived in many different countries.
    In the early 1970s, Tony met a young woman named Maureen. They soon married. Before getting jobs, Tony andMaureen wanted to travel. They took a year-long trip from England, through Asia, to Australia. On the trip, they visitedplaces like Iran( 伊朗) . India, and so on.
    When Tony and Maureen arrived in Australia, people asked many questions about their trip. To answer thesequestions, Wheeler wrote a book called Across Asia on the Cheap. The book told people about different countries' weather,customs( 风俗) ,and places to see. But unlike other travel books then, Tony Wheeler's book also talked about places most tourists did not go. He also wrote about unusual things to see and do. The book was very popular.
    Tony and Maureen started a company called lonely Planet. They continued travelling. They wrote books for each placethey visited. Today, 800 people work for Lonely Planet. The company has over 650 books. Tony Wheeler, the greattraveller, still writes about travels to many places and will bring us more surprises.

For years I wanted a garden. I'd spend hours thinking of different things I could plant that would look nice together.

But then we had Mathew， and Marvin， and the twins -- Alisa and Alan， and then Helen. I was too busy raising them to grow a garden.

Money was not enough. Neither was time. Often when my children were little， one of them would want something that cost too much， I'd have to say，"Do you see a money tree outside? Money doesn't grow on trees， you know."

Finally， all the children got through high school and college and were off on their own. I started thinking again about a garden.

Then， one spring morning， on Mother's Day， I was working in my kitchen. Suddenly， I looked out of the window and there was a new tree， planted right in my yard. There were things blowing around on it. Then I put my glasses on and I couldn't believe what I saw. There was a money tree in my yard!

I went out to look. It was true! There were dollar bills， one hundred of them， hanging all over that tree. There was also a note among them， "Thank you for your time， Mom. We love you!"

Later， my children bought me tools， ornaments（装饰品）， a sunflower stepping stone and gardening books. A new page started in my life.

That was three years ago. My garden is now very pretty， just like I wanted. When I go out and take care of my flowers， I don't seem to miss my children as much as I once did. It feels like they're right there with me. Now every year when winter comes， I look out of my window and think of the flowers I'll see next spring in my little garden. I think about what my children did for me， and I get tears in my eyes -- every time.

I'm still not sure that money grows on trees. But I know love does!
