Annie Sullivan had ahard life. She grew up alone and was very poor. Annie had trouble with her eyes,too. She could not see well.

One day after Anniegrew up a family called her. They needed help with their daughter. Their littledaughter's name was Helen Keller. Helen needed a teacher.

Helen could not see. Shecould not hear either. She felt scared and lonely(孤独的). Annie wanted to help Helen. She wanted to be able to talk to her.

Annie tried to teachHelen a sign language, away to make words with hands. But Helen did not knowwhat Annie tried to teach her.

One day near theoutside water pump. Annie had an idea. She put one of Helen's hands in thewater. Then Annie let Helen feel W-A-T-E-R on the other hand again and againand again.

At last. Helen knew. Shelearned that what she was feeling had a name. Helen was on her way to a life timeof learning.

Don't be afraid {#blank#}10{#/blank#} making mistakes. Realizing that it is OK to make mistakeshelps us live a much happier life. 

Most parents love the Internet and want their kids to use it. But a new survey(调查)in America finds many parents are also afraid of the online world. They worry that their kids will get in trouble with people they meet online.

The study was done online from May 5 to May 10 by Insight Research Group. It says 80% of parents are worried about kids meeting bad people online. That's because young people who largely have grown up with the Net think of it as a way of showing personal feelings. To young people, the benefits(处)of giving out some personal information to online friends outweigh(过)the risks(险)．And, the study shows they are so comfortable with the Internet that 78% of them have a personal website or blog.

Parents also realize the importance of the Internet. The survey shows 91% think the Net helps their children show their feelings, and 77% think the Internet is one of the most valuable education tools that children have. But 88% think it's important to know what their kids are doing online. Findings show both parents and children need more education about using the Internet.

Barry lives in the west African nation of Guinea (几内亚). He wanted to study at one of the best schools in Cairo, Egypt, but he didn't have money to pay for the bus or train. Then, Barry drew a map of Africa and started his trip on a second- hand mountain bike.

With only a few clothes, a flashlight(手电筒), and a small tool, the 25- year- old young man rode more than 4,000 kilometers across Africa, in the hope of getting into the school and finding a way to pay for it.

Four months later, he arrived in Cairo and got a full scholar(全额奖学金) to the school." If you have a dream, keep with it and be strong," Barry said.

Barry rode about 100 kilometers each day. He rode through(经过) Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Niger and Chad. After the long ride through those countries, his luck came in Chad. There, a kind man read about his trip online and helped him fly straight to Egypt. With his help, Barry arrived in Cairo successfully(成功地) and days later got a full scholarship to the school.

Barry wants to go back to Guinea when he finishes his studies." When I go back to my country, I would like to be a teacher. I want to tell people how to do good things," he says.

Let's take a look. My dream is to become a doctor, helping sick people and saving their lives. I hope everyone can have a chance to receive wonderful treatment (治疗) for their diseases. Enough knowledge and rich experience are both important for my dream. To realize it, I must work hard to improve myself.

 The ability to have a good understanding of our own character is called self-awareness. If you' re self-aware, you are able to see yourself {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (clear). You may also know that you love playing {#blank#}4{#/blank#} instrument because you do well in it and music makes you happy, or that you like watching TV on your own because it helps you relax.

 Knowing what you like and dislike, what you are good at and what you find difficult allows you {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(make) better decisions about friendships, schoolwork and so on. You learn to trust {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(you) own feelings more and that can build up confidence. The World Health Organization {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(say) self-awareness is one of ten important life {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(skill) that can help young people live happier, healthier lives. Being self-aware doesn't mean only thinking of yourself. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} understanding your own feelings, you will better understand other people, too.

 How do you learn to be self-aware? It's a good way to ask questions. But ask yourself questions that start with"{#blank#}10{#/blank#}" instead of"why". For example, if you don't understand why you keep arguing witha friend, ask yourself what you disagree on instead of why you' re arguing. Learning to be more self-aware is a skill and you learn it as you grow. So be brave and try out new things!
