What are on your desk? Your model planes? Your picture books? Some kids say reading is good. Books are important to them. Do you like reading? What about reading to a cat or a dog? 

To make* boys and girls open their books and love reading, the Acton Memorial Library lets boys and girls read to a dog every Monday afternoon. In the picture is a boy with a dog. The boy is Stone. He reads to a dog in the library. He thinks reading to a dog is fun. The name of the dog is Molly and she is 5. She isn't black or white. She is brown. She is a reading dog and her job is to make boys and girls like reading. 

The reading dog is nice and all the people love her. Many boys and girls love reading to her, so she is very busy*. Do you want to read to her, too? Come to the library in America!

What do pandas，tigers，whales，lions and wild camels have in common （共同的）？They are all endangered（濒临灭绝的）. Here are the reasons. 

Hunting：For centuries，people hunted elephants for their tusks，killed tigers for their fur，and caught many other animals for their meat. 

Foreign animals：In 1505，some people discovered a beautiful island named Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. People brought dogs，pigs，monkeys and rats with them，but this was bad news for dodo birds. The birds did not have natural enemies （天敌） before. They ate fruit that fell from trees and built their house on the ground. But when people came，dodo birds were in big trouble—men killed them for their meat，and the new animals broke their homes and ate their eggs. The number of dodo birds became smaller and smaller and finally extinct. The last dodo bird was killed in 1681.

Loss of living space：People cut down forests for farming and building houses. People build dams （水坝） to make sure they have enough water. While we make our lives comfortable，other animals have less and less space. 

Sometimes it can be very difficult to predict(预测) the result of your exams, whether you are in a secondary school or even a university. This is probably because exams are one of the most anxious things in education for students. Whether a student is confident in their abilities or not，exams can be often both predictable(可预测的) and unpredictable. If the worst does happen, failing the exams can be one of the most disappointed experiences for students, especially when they were not expecting to fail their exams. 

One way to deal with exam failure is to talk to people. Talk to your family, talk to your friends, discuss with them what you can do to get good grades. One thing you must remember is that failing your exams is not the end of the world. Exam failure is one of the many difficulties you'll have to overcome(克服) in your life, and there are always possibilities to learn from failure. After all, I' m sure most of you have heard of a famous saying, "Failure makes you stronger". Actually, it is really true. It gives you an understanding of what it means to fail, to lose, to receive a negative result that you may not have expected to get. In addition, from failure, you can learn why you fail. Then, next time, you can avoid this mistake, and can get better grades.

Some students don't like math. They think it's difficult. What can you do to lean it?And here are some pieces of advice(建议). 

Listen well in class. The math teacher knows much, When you listen well, you can know much, too. So be a careful(认真的)student and listen well. And you can ask your math teacher for help if you don't know something in class. 

Ask your classmates for help. Your math teacher isn't always with you. When you find a problem(问题)too difficult, you can ask your classmates too. A classmate is a good friend. He or she must be happy to help you. 

Practise(练习)it every day. Do you want to be good at math?It needs time. You can't lean it well in a day. So practise it every day, and you can find it easy. Math is a great subject. La's learn it well. 

Malaria(疟疾) has been a deadly problem for humans since ancient times. Countless people have died from the illness. Thankfully, Chinese scientist Tu Youyou found a useful medicine called qinghaosu.

In 1969, Tu became the director of a national project to develop a medicine against malaria. Her team took a special way.▲After reading more than 2,000 old treatments, Tu and her team collected over 600 plants and listed almost 380 possible treatments for malaria. One treatment, which is 1,600 years old, uses sweet wormwood. Tu found it useful and tried to extract(提取) the qinghaosu from it in order to makea medicine. The extraction failed at first, so Tu returned to the classical books again and finally found a way. She used a low- temperature way to extract the qinghaosu and finally succeeded in 1972.

Next, Tu and her team did lots of tests with qinghaosu in fighting against malaria. After her team showed that qinghaosu could treat malaria in mice and monkeys, Tu and two of her team members offered to test the medicine on themselves before testing on human patients. It turned out that qinghaosu was safe and all patients in the test became well. Gradually, the World Health Organization (WHO) advised people to use qinghaosu as the first- line treatment for malaria. It saved millions of lives around the world.

In 2015, when Tu won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, she didn't accept all of the honor. Instead, she praised her team members and Chinese traditional medicine. She once said," Every scientist dreams of doing something that can help the world."
