Once upon a time, in a deep forest lived a hard-working and kind-hearted squirrel named Sammy. Sammy was known for his kind and helpful nature. He was always ready to give a hand to anyone in need.

One sunny morning, Sammy was busy collecting nuts for the winter. Suddenly, he heard a strange noise coming from a nearby bush. Hoping to find out what was happening, he got near the bush and looked inside. There, he found a little bird with a broken wing, struggling to fly.

Sammy felt sorry for the bird and quickly chose to help. He carefully carried the bird back to his comfortable tree hole and tried to cure its wing with leaves and soft grass. Day after day, Sammy gave the bird food and cared for it until its wing got better. As the weeks passed, the bird's wing grew stronger, and it was finally able to fly again. The bird thanked Sammy cheerfully and promised to help him in return whenever he needed it.

Not long after, a terrible storm attacked the forest, and Sammy's tree hole was blocked by fallen branches. Sammy was caught and he didn't know what to do. Just then, the bird flew by and saw Sammy's predicament. It quickly flew to the nearby animals and asked for help.

It took the animals quite a long time to, together, clear the branches and free Sammy from the hole. Sammy felt so thankful and found that his kindness had come back to him in the most surprising way.

From that day on, Sammy has continued to help others, and the forest animals have learned the value of kindness and helping each other. They live happily, knowing that together, they can overcome any challenge.

Three years ago, I felt very lonely. I didn't like my classmates, my parents or1 else. My classmates didn't want to talk to me and my parents2 said that other kids were better than me. I thought I was the most3 person in the world. 

One day I had a big fight with one of my classmates. I was4 angry that I hit him in the face. Just at that moment, a boy stood up and stopped the fight. He was our monitor. 

After that, he often helped me and we became good friends.5 I got angry or sad, he would help me cool down. My life began to change6 the boy, my best friend. We7 a lot of interesting days together. As time goes by, I have become happier with people and things. And it 8 that people around me have changed too. My parents don't 9 at me anymore and my classmates become friendly to me. 

But now I can't see my best friend because he is seriously ill and is staying in hospital.10 l miss the days when we were together! I hope he will be all right and come back to school soon. 

There were some mice at Jack's house.They ran into the kitchen and ate food at night.In the day,they went back to their home.So it was difficult for Jack to get them.

"I need a good cat,"Jack thought.He knew Mr.Brown had a shop and there were many cats and dogs.

"I need a cat,Mr.Brown,"Jack said."The cat must be good for the mice."

"Well,I have such a cat,"answered Mr.Brown.

"I'll take it,"said Jack.He paid for the cat and went back.

A week later,Jack went back to Mr.Brown's shop with the cat."There are more mice at my house,"Jack said.He was very angry."Your cat doesn't want to catch them at all.But you said it was good for the mice."

"That's right,"said Mr.Brown."It's good for the mice.Come to think about it—it is good for the mice!"

Chen Dong is my pen pal. He says that there are many popular 1  in his country, such as the Lantern Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Double Ninth Festival and so on. But 2 thinks the Double Ninth Festival is the3 important festival in China. Why does he think so? Because it encourages people to respect, love and take good care of the old. That is a 4  virtue (美德) of the Chinese nation. It's on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month (阴历月). The number nine in both the month 5 the day creates the double nine. In Chinese, double nine is pronounced  6  same as the words jiu jiu meaning "forever". 7  that day, people enjoy a lot of activities like climbing a high mountain, eating Double Ninth Gao, wearing the zhuyu plant to wish to avoid evil (辟邪) and live long. People eat Double Ninth Gao to hope progress in everything. 8 interesting and meaningful festival it is! Are you also interested in it? I can9 wait to go to China to have a look on my own very soon! I am looking forward to10 him for the festival this year.

Hello, everyone!

Brian looked at the ugly gray walls of his bedroom. Soon the hated walls would be covered, but not with paint as he had first planned. Brian had been disappointed to learn that the house owner would not allow painting. For weeks he was unable to understand: without using paint, how could he cover the walls? But, as Grandmother always said, "Necessity is the mother of invention." So Brian did some thinking, and with a little help from his mother, he came up with a great plan.

This morning, Mom had needed to stop at the mall to buy a book and Brian went along. There, Brian noticed a large poster of Harry Potter and the Hogwarts School on the wall. Next to it was a poster showing the cover of No Arm in Left Field, a baseball novel that Brian had read several times. "This is it," Brian thought excitedly. "I'll cover the walls with posters!"

When he left the mall, Brian had an armful of posters and a box of tacks (大头钉). At home, he headed straight to his room. First he took out the posters and spread them out on his bed, his desk, and most of the floor. Next he found out the size of each poster, and then the walls. He wanted to cover as much of those ugly walls as possible! It took all afternoon to work out the best preparation. He drew it on paper, making changes until it was just right. When Dad came home at dinnertime, Brian was ready to tack up the posters.

"Come see my room, Dad," called Brian. "It's going to be great!" But when Dad came into the bedroom, he looked worried. "The house owner said we could not put any holes in the walls. You can't use tacks, Brian. I am sorry."

Brian's joy slowly disappeared. He would stay with the boring gray walls forever. Maybe there was no way to solve this problem after all. How could you hang posters without using tacks? After all, posters would not stick to the walls by themselves!

"What would stick to the walls?" Brian wondered. Then he smiled. Tape, that's what! Brian took a piece of tape and made it into a circle. He made sure the sticky part of the tape was on the outside. This would work, for sure!
