Hi, Dad!

How are you? I'm in shanghai now．It's great! It's warm and windy in shanghai. I can fly kites and play football outside. I like Shanghai very much!

    There are many different kinds of parrots in the world. They can not only(不但)live in the tree, but they can also(而且)live on the mountain. Some parrots are quite big. Some are very small. Many people like them, because they often have beautiful colours, and because they can “talk”.

    Do you know why parrots can talk? But most birds cannot. Perhaps, parrots can “talk” because they have big, thick tongues. But some other birds that cannot talk have big, thick tongues, too. So we don't know why parrots can talk.

    The Smiths are Americans. They are now in Beijing. This is their first visit to China. They are going to stay in China for two months. They want to visit some cities and villages. They hope to learn some Chinese, too.

    Mr. Smith is a doctor. He will visit a hospital in Shanghai. Mrs. Smith is a school teacher. She is going to visit some city schools and village schools. Their daughter is a middle school student. She wants to meet some children students.

    They are going to take a lot of pictures in China. When they are back in America, they will show the pictures to their American friends. They want the American people to know more about China.

Mike: Hi, John. How are you?

John: Fine, thank you. But I'm hungry.

Mike: What would you like to eat?

John: I'd like some beef.

Mike: Would you like some water?

John: No, I'd like some milk.

Mike: I have some milk. Here you are!

John: Thank you.

Mike: You're welcome.

    On summer holiday I am in the forest by myself (我自己), I go down to fish in the river. Soon get a big fish. Then I hear a great noise. There, right behind me, sits a big black bear! Wild animals are afraid of any quick move. So I move very slowly. The bear watches me. But he sits still. I take the fish and throw it to him. He eats it at once.

    Now what am I going to do? I'd better go on fishing, I think. The bear thinks so, too. Soon I gets another fish. I go over to him and put the fish into his big red mouth. I fish and fish—all for him. At first I am afraid to stop. Then I begin to like doing it. He is so friendly.

    When evening comes, the bear stands up and turns away (转身离开) from me. I can take some fish for my dinner.
