Most Americans don't like to get advice from members of their family. When they need advice, they don't usually ask people they know. Instead, many Americans write letters to newspapers and magazines which give advice on many subjects, including family problems, the use of language, health, cooking, child care, clothes, how to buy a house or a car, and so on.

    Most newspapers regularly print letters from readers with problems. Along with the letter are answers written by people who are supposed to solve (解决) such problems. Some of these writers are doctors; others are lawyers(律师) or educations. But two of the most famous writer of advice are women without special training for this kind of work. One of them answers letters addressed to “Dear Abby”, the other is addressed(致函) as “Dear Ann Landers” experience their preparation for giving advice.

    There is one writer who has not lived long enough to have much experience. She is a girl named Angel Caveliere, who started writing advice for newspaper readers at the age of ten. Her advice to young readers, now appears regularly(正常的) in the Philadephia Bulletin in a column called DEAR ANGEL.

Send a handwritten letter

    In this age where everything is sent by email, it is a shock to receive a letter through the post. Writing a few words on paper to a friend is an easy way to make one smile. Even a postcard with a couple of sentences could really make someone's day- all for the price of a stamp！

Volunteer

    Volunteering is one of the nicest things you can do. It requires (需要 ) some time and research to find the perfect project before volunteering. Whether you volunteer at your local youth group or take dogs from the shelters for a walk, the simple fact that you are giving up your time to help someone else is unbelievable. There are so many chances, so you are sure to find one that is right for you. And it doesn't necessarily have to take up all your time-it could be once a week or a couple of times a year.

Make something for a special person

    Whether you're creative or not, taking time to make something for someone else M shows how much you appreciate (感激 ) them. Even if you think you are not creative, the receiver will feel lucky to get such a special gift that you put your time into. Some ideas could include a card, painting, drawing, song, poem or cake!

Tell someone "I love you"

    It can be anyone-a family member or a friend. You don't even have to say "I love you". Perhaps you can tell a friend that you appreciate all they are to you, or remind your mum that you love her. Sometimes, in our busy lives, we forget to take a moment to tell people what they mean to us.

    Greetings from Los Angeles! Thank you for your postcard. Yes, your mother and I can visit you at Christmas. We thought to stay at home on Christmas Day, but now we are going to stay with you. And Jack isn't going to school then.

    The weather in Los Angeles is cold, but it doesn't matter. Sometimes we like the snow.

    We are going to buy plane tickets tomorrow because your mother wants to take a plane and she thinks it is fast. We will get to your city on December 18th. Our plan is to stay with you for two weeks. Is that all right with you？

We differ in our ways of thinking. He always put his opinions on me. When I finally reached the apartment where I lived, I saw that the light was still on.

    I thought to myself: Is father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me?

    In fact, it was nothing. Perhaps, dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they were useless. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} All the lights were off except father's.

    Dad was always like this. He had got used to arguing with me. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} After shouting at me, he never said sorry to me. But after an argument he always came into my room secretly and made sure whether I was asleep.

    The light was still on." Am I wrong?" I whispered, maybe… With the key in hand, I was as nervous as I had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door, tears ran down my cheeks. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Love is second to none.
