  It's Really a Miracle (奇迹)

Mr. Clarke works in New York and he brought his family to China last summer. They visited many places of interest and had a good time here. Before they left for New York, the Clarkes climbed the Great Wall. It was the greatest project over two thousand years ago. They took a lot of photos there and then they had a picnic under a big tree. Suddenly it began to rain and they hurried to the car. And when they returned to the hotel, they couldn't find the bag in which their expensive camera was. They were all sorry for it. They could buy another camera but had no time to go to the Great Wall again. They could not miss the plane!

That evening they didn't have supper. Mr. Clarke hoped to make them happy, so he said, “Well, let me tell you a story. An old man lived in a sixty-story building. One day he fell down from it when he was cleaning the window. But he didn't hurt himself.”

“It was a miracle!” called out his children, “Why?”

“Because he lived on the first floor!”

They all began to laugh while two policemen with a bag came in. They said a Chinese boy found it under a big tree and he asked them to find out who lost it.

“It's really a miracle!” the Clarkes said happily.

My summer hols wr CWOT. B4, we usd 2 go 2 NY 2C my bro, his GF & thr 3 : -@ kids FTF. ILNY; its gr8.
Can you understand this sentence? If you can't, don't feel too bad. The middle school teacher in England who received this as homework couldn't either. This is Netspeak: the language of computerized(电脑化的)communication found on Internet or mobile phones. To newcomers, it can look like a completely foreign language. So, what is the "translation" of the sentence above? My summer holidays were a complete waste of time. Before, we used to go to New York to see my brother, his girlfriend, and their three screaming kids face to face. I love New York; it's great.
Schoolteachers and parents say this new form of writing is harming the English language. Increasing spelling and grammatical mistakes can be seen in students' writing. They fear the language could become corrupted (面目全非的).
Everyone should just relax, say linguists (语言学家). They believe Netspeak is in fact more of a good thing. David Crystal, from the University of Wales, argues that Netspeak and Internet create a new language use and the almost lost art of diary writing has been picked up again. Geoffrey Nunberg, from Stanford University, agrees. "People get better at writing by writing," he says, “Kids who are now doing text messaging and e-mail will write at least as well as, and possibly better than, their parents."
Linguist James Milroy says, for centuries, it is believed without exception(例外)that young people are harming the language. And you can bet your bottom dollar that when today's teenagers become tomorrow's parents, they too will think this way. Milroy argues that languages do not and cannot become “corrupted”, and that they simply change to meet the new needs.
However, Netspeakers do agree that it is important to teach young people how to speak and write Standard English. Cynthia Mcvey says, "I can understand Netspeak worries teachers and it's important that they get across to(沟通)their pupils that text messaging is for fun, but that learning to write proper English is a must for their future.”
Perhaps we should give teenagers a little more trust anyway. Erin, age 12, says, "I wouldn't use text language in my homework. Texting is just for fun."

Do you think artificial intelligence (AI) should be used in schools?Experts believe that AI tools should be safely and properly used in schools rather than be banned (禁止).

Zheng Qinghua,president of Tongji University,suggested that young people should be guided to improve their understanding of the knowledge created by technology. AI technology has become increasingly important for getting and spreading knowledge,and it also influences teaching,learning and school management,Zheng mentioned many models such as Ernie Bot,an AI chatbot product of Baidu,were widely used among college students in China. The tool can write articles,solve science problems,and help students with homework and tests.

Besides,a survey done by the online learning platform Study showed that 89 percent of students had used ChatGPT to help with homework. This made people worry about the bad influence of AI on education. For example,students may not be honest. Instead of simply depending on AI to provide answers or complete homework and tests,people should focus on using AI to help students improve professional skills. In this way,they can better solve real﹣world problems,said Zheng.

According to Colin Bailey,president of Queen Mary University of London,as ChatGPT grows rapidly,the focus should not be on whether to use AI in education,but on how to use it safely,effectively,and properly. Banning AI in schools is not the solution. Bailey also warned about harm caused by poorly designed (设计的) AI.

Efforts to manage AI have come out around the world. In China,some rules for managing AI services have been carried out. America and England also have had similar rules.

March 30th is the World Bipolar Day. Liu Tiebang, president of Shenzhen Kangning Hospital,introduced bipolar disorder (BD) to the public in an effort to raise awareness for the mental health illness.

Bipolar disorder, also called manic depression (躁郁), is a mood disorder which can cause a patient's mood to change from a very high to a very low. Manic symptoms (症状) can include increased energy, quick response, unusual talkativeness, a lack of need for sleep, high self-esteem and so on. Depressive symptoms can include less energy, loss of interest or pleasure, feeling worthless, low self-esteem and suicidal(自杀性的) thoughts.

Patients with BD are often misdiagnosed (误诊) as depression. Liu said that while someone is experiencing a manic stage, he or she may be unusually talkative, sociable and outgoing. Patients having these kinds of problems may not realize that they are ill and often do not look for medical care. On the other hand, patients experiencing depressive periods are more likely to be noticed.

"With the development of treatments and medications, the treatments for BD have become better at present," said Liu. "The medications are safer. Patients getting the right treatments at the earlier stage of BD have a higher possibility of recovery (恢复); or the mania and depression may happen again."

For patients with BD, in addition to medication, other methods such as physical treatments, psychological treatments, social support groups and crisis intervention may be useful for managing their symptoms and controlling mood changes.
