Joanne "Jo" Rowling was born on 31 July 1965, pen name, is a British novelist, best known as the writer of the Harry Potter books. The Harry Potter books are world famous. People bought more than 400 million copies. They have become the best—selling book series in history. Rowling finished the first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997. Later Jo published 6 more — the last, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2007.

    Jo is said to be the twelfth richest woman in the UK. In October 2010, Jo was named the “Most Influential (有影响的)Woman in Britain.

As the New Year of 2024 comes, some people love the tradition of making resolutions. So, how can you keep the New Year flag standing? Come to our school hall at 3:00 this Friday afternoon and listen to a talk by Ms. Ann Smith!

If your New Year's plan is to exercise five days each week, a plan like "I'll exercise on weekdays" would be not clear enough. A plan like "I'll exercise at school on weekdays during my lunch break"would be better.

★Get a little help from your friends.

Tell a few friends about your resolutions. Then if you want to give up at some point, they will be the ones to make you hold on.

★Make it fun.

If it's not fun to exercise or study, you won't keep at it easily. But if you get fun from your exercise or study, you'll keep longer. If you can only drink your favorite juice during study hours or watch your favorite TV show after finishing your homework, you'll look forward to studying. It is not easy for us students to keep a New Year plan and this talk will surely give us some help. There are only 100 seats for the talk and we will have the "first come, first served" rule. Book early through our hotline: 390-4567 and bring your student card to get into the hall.

It's a Sunday morning. Isabella and her best friend William are playing in a park. They are looking for yellow eggs. Their parents tell them the yellow eggs are very difficult to find! They walk here and there, and William finds five white eggs. Isabella finds two blue eggs and four red eggs. But they don't see any yellow ones. Then William walks to some bushes (灌木) to try to find one.

"Hey, look what I find!" William says. He looks happy.

"Do you find a yellow egg?" Isabella asks. She walks over to join William.

"No," says William. "I find something better(更好的)!"

Isabella sees a birds nest (鸟巢) there. They are real eggs! There are three brown eggs in the nest.

Then they look at the eggs, they find the mother bird flies back. Then the two friends leave the bushes happily. They run to tell their parents about the nest.

What a good find! 

Several years ago, I spent most of my time at a mental hospital (精神病院) in our town. I found much joy there. At first it was a little scary to be there, but I stayed on, because I had a reason for doing this.

I volunteered in a locked-up (封闭的) environment. To my surprise, I found that a friend of my parents' was a patient in this hospital. I knew, when I was a baby, this woman wanted to keep me because she had no children. I looked after this woman and showed my old photos to her. Finally, she was able to remember some old things, and she said to me one day, "Dear, you should not come here. But I wanted to bring something happy into this woman's life. I learned that because she had no family, she couldn't leave here and go home. So I brought her to my home twice and I still remembered the happy smile on her face.

I have never forgotten this volunteering experience. This woman later passed away. I can't see her anymore, but I'm happy that I have done something to make a difference in another person's life.

 On Oct 11, robot history was made when Ai- Da, a human- like robot artist talked at a meeting in the UK. The topic for the meeting was"A Creative Future".

 Ai- Da paints using cameras in her eyes and robotic arms. She" thinks" and answers questions using AI algorithms (算法). She has painted the UK queen and had her work presented in galleries(画廊).

 Describing herself, Ai- Da told people at the meeting that"I am a robot and I depend on computer programs and algorithms" and" although not alive,I can still create art". Amusingly, at the meeting, Ai- Da" slept"— it shut down and had to be restarted. But her ability to answer questions in real time shows the huge developments of AI. These are developments that will continue.

 One person who seems interested in this is Elon Musk. He is planning on creating his own AI robots for his company, Tesla. Musk presented Tesla's human- like robot, named Optimus, at Tesla's AI Day on Sept 30. Tesla showed videos of their robot doing simple tasks like carrying boxes and watering plants, said CNN.

 With robots becoming more and more part of our daily lives, we may have to learn to live with them. But will people be happy to have these robotic friends or will they feel threatened(威胁的) by them? As Ai- Da said," Technology can be both a threat and an opportunity."
