Merry Christmas! Christmas is a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(wonder) time to spend with all the family. Beautiful decorations (装 饰 物) are everywhere, merry songs {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(play) and the smell of turkey fills the air. When I was little, I always couldn't wait {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Christmas! We would put our decorations up in November. The trees, snowmen and stockings {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(fill) with candies. We would watch Christmas {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(movie), sing Christmas songs and eat mince pies(百果馅饼). But one of my favorite things to do was special to my hometown—I went on the Thomas the Tank Engine Steam train {#blank#}6{#/blank#} met Father Christmas! He would walk down the carriages and hand out candies and toys to all the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(child). Father Christmas comes down the chimney (烟囱) on Christmas Eve to give everyone a surprise. That sounds like a magical story. {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(express) our thanks, we leave some cookies and milk for him. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} next morning, the cookies and the milk have gone. And all the presents are under the Christmas tree! We' re all together and enjoy {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(our). It's a really fantastic time!

People all over the world are talking about happiness. Different people have different ideas about it. 

"What's happiness in your eyes?"Once a newspaper made a1 in different parts of the world. Different people gave different answers.2 this question. In some Asian countries, most people think happiness means3 . They hope to do everything well. In America, most people think happiness means having lots of money. They want to be very4 . 

People everywhere seem to5 happiness. Some put their hearts and time into their work. They feel happy when they do their work6 . Some are looking for happiness in other ways. I hear some people say, "I'll be happy when I get a good job. "7 some say, "I'll be happy when I make $20 more. "And8 say, "I'll be happy when the children go back to school. 

When we're happy, we usually have9 success in our work. When we're happy, people want to be around us and10 our happiness. If you try your best to do anything, you'll get your own happiness. 

One evening, Brian told Mom that the boys at school had been laughing at him, because they knew he had to do the dishes every night at home. "I didn't like it. Today 1 called me Cinderella," he said seriously. Mom could tell that Brian was 2 about what had happened. After dinner, Brian went straight upstairs, without stopping to 3 as usual. "I've got a lot of homework to do," he said. Mom was surprised but said nothing.

When Brian got home from school the next day, he said 4 , "I've solved it, Mom" He had told the boys at school that he wouldn't do the dishes anymore, as he wasn't a 5 . "I'm not Cinderella," he said.

The next morning, Brian came downstairs, ate his breakfast, 6 his lunchbox and set off to school as usual. But at noon he rushed into the 7 again. "Mom, there was nothing in my 8 !" he said. "How strange," Mom said. Brian 9 made himself two sandwiches and rushed off to school.

That evening, before going to bed, Brian asked, "Mom, do you have a 10 pair of trousers for me? My laundry (洗衣) basket is full." Mom answered that she had been busy that day. The next evening 11 dinner, when Brian headed upstairs later to start his homework as usual, he came straight back down again. "Mom, my laundry basket is still full. Can you tell me 12 you will put a wash on?" he said. "Maybe tomorrow." Mom answered.

All week long, 13 Brian kept asking his mom for things, Mom kept giving him almost the same answers. Until, this afternoon after school, Brian got home and 14 his mom alone preparing dinner for the family, he suddenly got the 15 Mom had been trying to tell him: he might not want to be Cinderella, but neither did his mom. After dinner. Brian did the dishes again himself.

Unlike many of my classmates, my hero is my dad. 

When I was five, I was seriously {#blank#}1{#/blank#} and needed attention all the time. My dad knew how much my mum loved her job, so he {#blank#}2{#/blank#} working to look after me in hospital. Later he took up a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} to work at night so that he would only be out when I was sleeping. He always thought about others {#blank#}4{#/blank#} himself. This made me start to respect him.

When I was seven, I started learning to ride a bike. My dad ran behind me and held the back of the bike so that I would not {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. I felt so safe because I knew he was near. Soon, I was able to ride by {#blank#}6{#/blank#}.

My family is not {#blank#}7{#/blank#}than others, and we do not own a big house or an expensive car. My dad ever said to me, "Family is the only thing {#blank#}8{#/blank#}is the most important in the whole world." {#blank#}9{#/blank#}he is now very busy with his work every day, he always spends time staying with me. He has also taught me that if I really work {#blank#}10{#/blank#}, I can achieve anything.

My dad is my hero because he has shown me the most important thing in life.

Many people might think that if they had more money, then they would be happier in life. For example, people might look at what others have, like expensive clothes or nice cars, and wish they could have the same. But the things that money can buy cannot bring happiness to a person for a long time. 

But is that really true? Studies have found that money can, in fact, make people happier. But it's not having money that brings happiness. Instead (相反地), it's giving money to others that makes people happy. It could be buying a gift for a friend or a family member. It could be buying a homeless person food to eat. It could be giving money to a person in need. Just think about the last time you used your own money to do something for someone else. How did you feel? Whether it is a small or large amount of money, people feel happier when they give. This is because making someone else happy makes the giver happy, too. 

This idea of connecting (关联) your happiness to the happiness of others is called ‘ubuntu' in an African language. There is even a story about a man visiting Africa. He asked some children to race to a nearby tree. The first child to touch the tree would get sweets. Surprisingly, all the children held hands and ran together. They all touched the tree at the same time. The man asked why they did this. The children simply said they could only enjoy eating the treat if everyone had one. 

Oliver Twist was brought up in the workhouse where only the poor and homeless lived. He was pale, thin and short for his age. The boys ate meals in a large stone hall. They ate a bowl of thin soup three times a day, with half a piece of bread on Sundays. The boys were always hungry and ate everything up. The bowls never needed washing. The boys polished(擦亮) them with their spoons(勺子) until they shone. 

 The boys got hungrier and hungrier until one day they intended to do something . One boy had to ask for more food that evening. So they decided who would go by drawing lots. Each boy took a piece of paper and anyone who got paper with a mark on it would do that. It turned out that Oliver Twist was that boy. 

 The evening arrived, the soup was served, and soon the bowls were empty again in a few seconds. The boys were desperate(绝望) with hunger. With fear, Oliver went up to the master who was a fat and healthy man. He held up his bowl and said, "Please, sir, I want some more. "

 The master turned very pale when he heard Oliver's words. "What?"said the master ina surprising voice. 

"Please, sir, "repeated Oliver, "Would you please give me more? I want some more. "The master hit him with the spoon heavily, then took Oliver's arms and shouted to tell the board(理事会). 

"He asked for more?" Mr Limbkins, the fattest board member, asked in horror. "The boy is ungrateful!" "That boy will be hanged in the future!" said another board member. Oliver was then locked up in a dark room.
