Better think twice before choosing a password for email, online bank or shopping. Simple passwords are easy to be stolen.

A password is like a key to your home. If someone steals it, he'll get chances to steal something else. We use passwords everywhere in our life. We are so used to passwords that we don't pay any attention to them until we lose or forget one.

A study of 28,000 passwords recently stolen from a popular website showed that people often do the easy thing. It found that 16% took a first name as a password. Another 14% used the easiest keyboard combinations such as “12345678” or QWERTY. 5% of the stolen passwords were names of television shows or stars popular with young people. 3% of the passwords expressed feelings like “I don't care,” “Whatever,” “I love you,” or their opposite, “I hate you.”

Robert Graham, who did the study, advises people to choose a password that is longer than eight characters with one capital letter and one symbol.

Of course, safe passwords don't mean those hard to remember. Forgetting your password is sometimes a big headache for you. Maybe, the perfect password is easy for you and hard for others.

A、标志 B、护照 C、密码 D、口诀

Give your dead batteries a new life. Recycle them!

Batteries(电池) are used to power clocks, computers, tools and more. However,

Your batteries have some serious power when their lives are over.

WHY TO RECYCLE BATTERIES

Remember, batteries are harmful waste. This mean you could properly throw away. You may not think one little battery can cause that much pollution. But don't think of it as just one battery—there can be millions. In Canada, each person uses about 20 single-use batteries every year. That's about 700 million batteries! If all these batteries end up in landfills(垃圾填埋场), the heavy metals inside them can get into the water, land and air. It can be harmful to humans and wildlife.

By recycling single-use batteries instead of throwing them away, you can cut down pollution and also help save energy. All batteries are mainly made of plastic and valuable metals. Through recycling programs, dead batteries can be changed into something useful like steel products, or even new batteries!

    HOW TO RECYCLE BATTERIES:

Make a difference by starting to collect batteries at your home or school today. You can prepare a box for battery collection and invite friends, family and classmates to bring in old batteries to be recycled.

There are many safe ways to deal with your batteries. You can:

Find a Call 2 Recycle public collection station near you.

Ask the store where you bought the batteries if you can return them there.

Communicate with your local city government to find out if there are special programs for recycling used batteries!

Chinese scientists found a whale fall for the first time in the South China Sea during a deep-sea expedition (考察) carried out by oceanic research ship Tansuo-1.

It's sad to learn that a whale has died in the ocean. However, that's not the end for the whale. It has a lot to give to other sea animals after death. When a whale dies, it quickly sinks to the bottom of the ocean floor. There, the whale body provides food for deep-sea animals, which are often hungry for food. It creates an ecosystem called a whale fall "oasis (绿洲)" of life in the deep sea. The remains can last for lots of years.

The whale fall ecosystem can exist in the deep ocean because great pressure and cold temperatures there prevent the body from decomposing (腐烂) too quickly. But the depth also makes it hard for scientists to discover them.

There are less than 50 known whale falls in the world, so it's lucky for China to find the valuable one. The whale body in the South China Sea is about three meters long. Scientists have found several kinds of shrimp and fish near the whale body. Some fish have started to eat the whale's tail. The whale fall might be quite recent and needs long-term watching, according to Xie Wei, a scientist who took part in the expedition.

By studying the whale fall, scientists can better understand how marine (海洋的) ecosystems support life and how to protect biodiversity (生物多样性) resources in the deep sea.

Can knots be a form of art? It is in China. It is used for decoration (装饰) on clothing or to hang on a wall. Skilled knot artists make knots that you might see sold in stores that you can take back with you.

What Is a Chinese Knot?

A Chinese knot is a knot that is tied and woven (编织) from a single length of rope to be different shapes. Most knots have two cords (粗线) entering the knot from the top and two leaving from the bottom. Each kind of knot is named after its shape or the symbolic meaning that it carries.

Knot artists can use different colors, but they prefer deep red ones. The color red means good luck in China.

 ▲

At first, people may have made them to record information before people started to write. One hundred thousand year old tools have been discovered that were probably used to tie and untie knots.

It is known that they were used for artistic decoration and to express thoughts and feelings in the Tang Dynasty (618—907). The traditional art form was carried on by people as part of their culture.

Ancient and Modern Use of Artistic Knots

Even today, Chinese knots are rich in symbolic meaning, and they hold value when given as gifts or passed down through families. For example, in ancient times and even now, lovers may give a knot as a symbol of their love. The "true love knot" and the "double happiness knot" are given or used at weddings to express love and growing old together.

Along with being symbolic gifts or messages, knots are still used if people wear traditional Chinese clothing. They are used as jewelry such as earrings and necklaces.

One Saturday morning, Jeremy's mum had a bad cold and she wanted to stay in bed.

"How can I help her?" Jeremy thought to himself. Then he got a good idea. Mum did    the    laundry on Saturdays. "Why don't I wash my own clothes this week?" He ran to his room to get his clothes. He put them into the washing machine(洗衣机). Finally, he closed the door and pressed the big button "START". After the washing was done, Jeremy took out the clothes. Everything seemed clean, and he felt very happy. Then he took a pink T-shirt out of the washing machine.

Jeremy stopped. "____I don't have a pink T-shirt, " Jeremy said to himself. He reached into the washing machine to take out more clothes. There were more pink clothes! What happened?

The last thing was a bright red sock. When he picked it up, the sock turned his hand red. "The sock turns all of my white clothes pink, " Jeremy thought. He didn't mind having pink clothes.

The next day, Jeremy wore his new pink T-shirt to breakfast. "Where did you get that T-shirt?" Mum asked. "It looks nice. " Jeremy smiled, "I made it yesterday when I washed the clothes. It was an accident(意外), but I like it. " "I like it too, " said Mum. And they began their breakfast.
