Today many parents worry about their children's diets(饮食). But what is a health y diet for children? Miss Jones from Happy Children Hospital gives some advice(建议):

Children shouldn't eat food with too much salt because it can cause high blood pressure (高血压). 

Children should eat food with less fat, oil and sugar. They should not eat too much junk food like instant noodles(方便面), potato chips(薯片), prunes(梅干), ice creams and cola. 

Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins(维生素). So children need to eat them often. 

Water is important to everyone. Children need to drink about eight glasses of water every day.

Get Ready for Junior High

New places, new faces, new things to do and new ways to do them ... Are you ready to start your junior high?

Before the first day of school, take a practice run(路线演习). How long will it take to go to school? After the run, you will know. You don't want to be late for your first class.

You will have your new timetable(课程表) on the first school day. You can have a copy(副本) for home. Every night, have a look at the timetable and prepare for the next school day.

What do you do to get ready for your junior high? (不超过10个词) {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

I was doing the work in the garden yesterday. It was a soft evening and I was   making the most of it when I heard a neighbor's voice coming from the path out of our garden. 

I found there was a man lying on his back on the path with his eyes closed. I   recognized him. I had seen him doing the drunkard's(酒鬼) walk along that path several times. 

I stopped to walk out. " Do you need some help?"I asked. 

He opened his eyes and said, " Probably. " Then he told me because of arthritis(关节炎) he couldn't walk well at the most of times. I thought I should do it when he asked to help him go home where he lived a few hundred metres away. 

I tried to let him walk under his own strength with me guiding him but that   was getting us nowhere. It was easier to carry him, but that would be a real insult(侮辱) to him. So, I held his left hand with my left hand and grabbed his belt with my right hand. Then we started walking slowly. 

On the way he told me his name, what he had worked as, what holidays he had been, how wonderful his granddaughter was, what his wife's name was, and what a hard time she would give him when he got home!

Thank goodness! His wife wasn't in when we walked forty- five minutes back to his home. 

If we wait until we feel good about helping before we help, then people will go unhelped and we will become the ones who end up walking on by. 

Tyler was a troublesome student. He sat in the back row. Every time I asked him to answer questions, he'd reply with a flip(轻率的) answer. If he got it wrong, he would get very angry. 

Usually kids could sit quietly in class. However, Tyler was just noisy. One day, Tyler was talking while I was teaching. I said to him, "Tyler, why not join in our discussion instead of having one of your own?" He got up from his chair, pushed it over, and shouted something I can't remember. I sent him to the office and he received a week's out-of-school punishment. 

The week was a wonderful time for me, but when it came to an end, I began to feel worried. So I came up with a plan. On the day of his return, I told him I wanted to start over with him. If he felt like he was going to lose control in class, he could step outside the door for a moment. 

From then on, Tyler was a changed student in my classroom. In fact he was a smart child and he even stopped a fight between two students one day. And he never used the privilege(特权) to leave the class for a moment. I believe that just letting him decide for himself made all the difference. 

When the year was over, he wrote me a thank-you note about how good the year had been for him. I still have it today and find it very moving to reread when I get worried about teaching. 

①Do you remember the name of your kindergarten teacher? I do, Her name was Mrs. White. 

②I don't remember much about what we learned in her class, but my mother once told me that we used to write a lot. And I would bring back what I wrote and she would look at it and see there were so many mistakes. But no red corrections. And always a star. Sometimes even a Good! That worried my mother a lot, so one day she asked Mrs. White why she never corrected my mis- takes; in spellings of words or pointed out grammatical errors. 

③Mrs. White said, "The children are just beginning to get excited about using words, about forming sentences. I don't want to dampen that interest with red ink. Spelling and grammar can wait. . . "

④She is right! I did grow up learning to use words with loving confidence just like that. I look back now and think she must have been a rather extraordinary teacher— to restrain(限制) her red pen— to allow the joy, wonder and excitement of expression. 

⑤I used to misspell"beautiful" a lot. I never could quite remember that the"e" went before the"a". It annoyed my teacher in high school endlessly. Eventually the"e" and"a" settled into their right places. I am glad I didn't wait on them though. "Pretty" is easier to spell but it doesn't hold as much as you mean sometimes. 

⑥And thanks to Mrs. White I had no concerns about writing what I meant, even if I couldn't quite spell it out. After all, life isn't pretty. It's beautiful.
