Band practice had just ended. Jimmy and Ben started packing up their1. Before Kevin could put his trumpet into the box, he2a music stand. It fell and hit right on his trumpet.

   "Oh, no!" Kevin yelled.

    Jimmy picked up the trumpet and checked it3 before handing it to Kevin. "Well, it already has a lot of dents(凹痕). One more won't matter."

    "I know.  But it's my4," Kevin said. "And he's coming over this weekend."

    "Maybe he won't notice the dent," Jimmy said.

    "Maybe he won't care," Ben added,

    A bunch of "5"ran through Kevin-s head on the bus home.

    Maybe he could pretend（假装） he felt sick.

    But he didn't like6.

    Maybe he could get his baby brother, Jace, to take all of Grandpa's attention.

    Or maybe Grandpa wouldn't ask him to play this time.

When7finally arrived, Kevin still hadn't figured out what he was going to do.

    "Hey, Kev. How're things?" Grandpa asked as he walked in.

    "Good." Kevin could have told him the8right then, but he froze.

    After dinner, Grandpa asked Kevin to play9classics—Ode to Joy and Oh, Susanna. Grandpa said, "I think you're 10 than I was at your age."

    Any other time, Grandpa's praise would have made Kevin feel great. But not this time. "I'm 11about the dent," he explained what had happened.

    To Kevin's surprise, Grandpa smiled, "Instruments become part of12when you play them a lot. You can't always protect them. The13thing is that you told me."

    Grandpa pointed to the scratches opposite the dent Kevin had made. "I got these when I fell over it14one night."

    "So I'm not the only clumsy(笨拙的)  one in the family?" Kevin said.

    Grandpa laughed, "Every dent and scratch can tell a story, and15you stick with it, someday you'll have your own."

    Grandpa handed the trumpet back to Kevin. "Now tell me a story with music."

    Kevin lifted the trumpet and filled the room with happy noise.

    Do you think doing housework is a hard task for you? Have you ever thought of inventing something to make it 1? A boy named Sam Houghton did and he 2 a two-head broom (扫帚).

    Sam was just three years old when he came up with his 3. He saw his father sweep up (打扫) garden leaves and 4 brooms while trying to gather large leaves and litter.

    Now he is the poster boy for a new show at the British Library in London called "Inventing the 21st Century." To celebrate 5 and encourage new inventors, the famous 6 is telling the story of the most special inventions coming out of Britain in the past 10 years. Sam's broom is produced by big companies, and the brooms are very7 in England.

    Young Sam Houghton is now eight years old and has another invention. He has made a balloon popping machine (气球爆破装置) for play centers. He said, "We don't want children to cry because of 8 bangs (爆炸声) of balloons. I used a box to 9 the bangs so that they can't scare (惊吓) the children."

My family lived in a big city, and we had no garden, but I often {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (go, went) to a small park near my home. There {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (are, were) a lot of trees in the park. Early in spring, those trees{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (get, got) green. I liked to see all the green leaves. In summer there were flowers everywhere. I often {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (read, reads) picture hooks on the bench. In autumn, the leaves turned yellow and red. I often {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (take, took) a walk with my parents. I also{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (like, liked) to walk after supper with my grandpa. He {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (know, knew) a lot of stories. Every time we had a walk together, he{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (tells, told) me an interesting story. When I {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (am, was) young, I {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (have, had) a good time in the small park.

This morning, I went camping along a path in Green Natural Park with my friends. We were happy because it was a sunny day. We were expecting an enjoyable two- day holiday. On the way, we kept singing and making jokes. 

However, in the afternoon, when we finished our picnic at one o'clock, it was dark and windy.  Soon there was a shower. Unluckily, none of us brought an umbrella. We ran about but we could find no place to hide. 

Twenty minutes passed and it was still raining. There were hours to go before we could reach the campsite (野营地). It was even worse that our small compass showed that we went the wrong way. We lost our way!

We had to make a quick decision as it was raining heavily. Chris said we could set up a tent to hide in, so Mary and Tom helped to set up the tent. Chris and I tried to make a fire to keep us warm. But we were unable to light the fire,  ▲ . We dried ourselves, chatted and waited inside the tent. At about five o'clock, it stopped raining. We decided to give up the camping trip because all of us were very tired. 

This camping trip may not be very successful but we have got to know each other better. And the most important thing I've learned from this trip is the importance of teamwork.
