Many years ago, when I was working as a volunteer(志愿者)at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Lisa. The poor little girl had a very serious disease and was dying. The doctor had done his best but no medicine really worked. The only chance to save her seemed to be a blood transfusion(输血)from her five-year-old brother. The little boy had the same disease before and had developed the antibodies(抗体)to fight the illness.

    The doctor talked to me little boy about what they planned to do, and asked him if he would be willing(愿意的)to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate(迟疑)for a moment. He took a deep breath and said, "Yes, I'll do it if it can save Lisa."

    As the transfusion was going on, the little boy lay quietly in bed next to his sister. He looked at her and smiled all the time. When everything was done and the color returned to his sister's face, his smile disappeared and he looked a little afraid. He looked up at the doctor and asked, "Will I start to die now?"

    He was too young to understand the doctor. He thought he would have to give all his blood to his sister, but he agreed.

A little stream(小溪) ran down from a high mountain through many villages and forests. Then it reached a desert(沙漠)."I went through so many {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(difficulty). I should have no problem {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(cross) the desert,"she thought. As she started, she found  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(her) slowly vanishing(消失)into the sand. After many tries, she still failed."Maybe I can't reach the ocean,"she said {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(sad) to herself.

At this time, a deep voice said, "{#blank#}5{#/blank#} the wind can cross the desert, a river can also do it."It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered,"That's because the wind can fly, but I can't.""That's because you can't give up {#blank#}6{#/blank#} you are. Let yourself evaporate(蒸发) into the wind and it can take you across me,"said the desert."Give up what I am now? No! No!"The little stream could not accept that."The wind can carry the vapor(水蒸气) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again,"said the desert."And whether you're a river or vapor, your nature never changes."{#blank#}7{#/blank#}hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the wind. It {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(carry) her to the next stage of her life.

The course of our lives is just like {#blank#}9{#/blank#} experience of the little stream. If you want to go through difficulties in your life {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (become) successful, you should also change the way you are.

You may think gymnastics is only for players in their teens and twenties. But Oksana Chusovitina has broken the unwritten rule of the sport. The 48-year-old woman made her return to the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. This is her fifth time to take part in the Asian Games. Also she is the only woman who has competed in eight Olympics. Chusovitina was born in Uzbekistan in 1975. At the age of 17，she attended her first Olympics in Barcelona，Spain. She won a gold medal in the team event，but this was just the beginning of her long story. 

In 1999，she gave birth to her first son，Alisher. She thought the Sydney 2000 Games were meant to be the last one for her. But it was not to be. In 2002，Alisher suffered from a serious illness. In order to give Alisher the best possible treatment，the family moved to Germany. In 2003，she returned to international competitions to raise money for her son. Luckily，both her comeback and her son's treatment were successful. 

After finishing a disappointing fifth at the London 2012 Games，Chusovitina told everybody that she decided to stop her career. But gymnastics was in her blood（血）. "At night，I told everyone I had decided to stop my career. The next morning，I woke up and changed my mind，"she said. At the Tokyo 2020 Games，Chusovitina failed to reach the final event. Though she said once again that she would stop her career，she decided to return very soon. 

This year，her return to the Hangzhou Asian Games added another touch of colour to her career. Although she missed a medal，she said she would continue to train and compete for the Olympics in Paris. 

"I love gymnastics，and it brings me great joy. I'm just doing what I love. " Chusovitina said，"I can leave at any time. But I must do what I can today，so I won't regret it tomorrow. "

Michelle Wie, from America, was like a lot of other young girls in many ways. She was a good student, and she liked reading, drawing, and computers. However, in some other ways, she was very different. She didn't spend much time going out with friends or shopping or going to parties. She was very busy practising golf.

Now Michelle Wie is the best woman golfer for her age in the world, She was born in 1989. In 1999, at the age of 10, she began to win games against the women twice her age. At 13, she could hit the ball further than most of the women in the Ladies Professional Golf Association(LPGA). At 14, she showed she could hit the ball further than most men.

Wie began playing golf at the age of four. When she grew older, she practised it for about four hours a day on weekdays and about seven hours a day on weekends. Another thing that helped her was that she was tall. By the time she as 13, Wie was six feet tall. She's a joy to watch. She has the flexibility of a dancer and is also very strong. And it's clear that she loves the game.

Alex is a young boy. He likes music very much and he thinks there 1 so much fun in music. He wants 2 the piano and joins the school music club. But all these things are difficult for him. Why? Because he has no hands.

Alex thought he could never play 3 piano and felt very sad. But Alex's parents always stayed with him and often shared some 4 with him. They often 5 him that where there is a will(意志), there is a way. After that, Alex started to practise the piano with arms. At first, Alex always made mistakes, 6 Alex's parents decided to find a nice music teacher for him. They took him to music lessons 7 Tuesday and Thursday. After about two years, the boy could play it very8 . From then on, he often took part in the piano matches. He even won the first prize in Youth(青年) Piano Competition, and Alex felt really 9 .

"My music teacher and classmates always help me with the lessons. I must thank 10 . And I must thank my parents, too. They teach me an important lesson— Nothing is impossible."
