An anti-smoking ban(禁烟令) took effect on Jan 1, 2019 in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang Province, stopping e-cigarett (e电子烟) use in the same place where smoking is not allowed. You have to pay a fine of up to 20,000 yuan if you break the rule. While the use of e-cigarettes is allowed in many other cities, is it necessary to do so? Let's share our readers' opinions.

Andrew (US) Smoking of all kinds should be banned. Smoking is a silent killer which not just kills the smokers but also the people around the smokers.

Li Wei (China) Not only does the e-cigarette not help smokers to give up smoking, but also it encourages young and old nonsmokers to start smoking, and finally they will smoke the real thing! And the smoke from e-cigarettes is just as bad for the health of others who do not smoke!

Edward (Canada) E-cigarette is another choice to smoking. I picked one up two years ago, and have not had a real cigarette since that day. As a matter of fact, I still have four packages of Zhonghua sitting on my shelf to remind me of that bad habit that I started over 40 years.

Wang Lei (China) E-cigarette might be better than real cigarettes, but they still are very closely related to cigarettes. E-cigarette not only causes dangerous side effects(副作用) but also harms the people around you through second-hand smoking.

Chris (US) People use e-cigarettes to give up smoking. I'm all for banning their sales to kids. Nicotine(尼古丁) is harmful, but if they're going to smoke anyway, aren't e-cigarettes better than real cigarettes?

Should e-smoking be banned in public?

It is necessary for children to help their parents with housework. But most parents may find it difficult to get their children to help with it, because children usually enjoy playing games instead of doing housework. However, I have some good ways to get my children to do housework. Here is an example.

"Mum, what's next week's housework? Let Kitty and me choose the cards. I can't wait. It's interesting!"

When my son, 7-year-old Tommy shouted, I began to put all the cards on the sofa. On the cards, I wrote some words like these, "wash the car, take out the rubbish, make the bed, do the dishes, clean the living room, sweep the floor, wash the clothes, take the dog for walks, water the flowers" and so on.

Kitty and Tommy chose two cards for each day from Monday to Friday. Then they wrote them down on their notebooks. Tommy likes to take the dog for walks best while Kitty enjoys cleaning the living room. Soon the two kids had fun taking away all the cards. And I didn't need to worry about the housework again. Of course, on weekends, I usually do the housework myself and set the children free.

Mrs Burt was walking along a San Francisco street. Suddenly a man took her purse and ran. She was very angry. She had ten dollars, her bus pass, and the key to her house in her purse. Mrs Burt ran after the thief.

The thief ran one block, two blocks, three blocks. The thief was a young man, so he could run fast. Mrs Burt was not a young woman-she was 73 years old-but she could run fast, too, Mrs Burt stayed right behind the thief.

Mrs Burt was wearing two chopsticks in her hair. The chopsticks had sharp ends Mrs Burt took the chopsticks out of her hair. "Maybe I can stab(剩) the thief with these chopsticks." she thought. "Then he will drop my purse."

The thief ran into an apartment building. Mrs Burt followed him. "Help! Stop him!" she shouted. "He has my purse!"

Two police officers were walking near the apartment building. They heard Mrs Burt and ran to help her. One police officer stayed with Mrs Burt. The other police officer chased the thief.

The police officer found the thief on the roof of the apartment building. The thief was looking in Mrs Burt's purse. When he saw the police officer, the thief dropped the purse and jumped off the building. The building was two story's high.

A few minutes later the police officer caught the thief. He was hiding under a car.

He couldn't run because he had broken his legs. The police took the thief to jail. The thief will stay in jail for a long time. But the thief was lucky. He was lucky that the police caught him. He was lucky that Mrs Burt didn't catch him!
